What is Retirement Provision Certificate
(RPC)?
RPC aims to provide
n essential knowledge and understanding of
retirement provision in the UK.
n a foundation for those who plan to develop a
career specialising in one aspect of retirement
provision or for those seeking a broad
understanding of the subject.
Why do RPC?
n RPC demonstrates that the holder has a broad
understanding of the issues surrounding
retirement provision in the UK.
n More people are finding that, in the course of
their work, they need to have a basic
understanding of all of the various sources of
income that can be used to provide for retirement.
n The RPC forms an integral part of the Advanced
Diploma and the Diploma in Employee Benefits
and Retirement Savings (DEBRS).
n By studying for the RPC you can become a
Student Member of the PMI.
Who is it for?

How do I study?
Preparation for the examination is straightforward
using the comprehensive online learning programme.
The programme is attractive and engaging and
accommodates different styles of learning depending
on your background experience. It is recommended
that about 60 - 70 hours should be spent studying
and revising before sitting the examination.
Incisive revision courses are also offered about a
month in advance of the April and October
examinations and are held in central London. The
courses are generally half day sessions devoted to
the study of the RPC with face to face tuition, giving
students ample opportunity to raise specific questions
or difficulties with the lecturer.
How is it assessed?
The RPC is assessed by a two hour multiple choice
examination paper that comprises 120 questions
designed to test retirement provision knowledge
across the syllabus. Each question scores one mark.

When and where do the examinations
take place?
Public examinations take place in April and October at
about 40 centres around the UK. There are also some
overseas centres, contact PMI for further details. The
full list of examination centres and the examination
entry form are available on the website.
The examination can also be made available on
demand to groups of ten or more candidates at a
time and place of the organisers choice. This allows
companies to hold RPC in their offices at the most
convenient time and date. See the website or contact

How do I register?
You will need to complete the relevant form(s) which
can be downloaded from the PMI website.
Please note registering as an RPC student when
ordering study material includes Student Membership
of the Institute. In subsequent years it will be
necessary to pay the annual Student Member
subscription in order to maintain membership and sit
further Advanced Diploma examinations.
How does it fit into the PMI
Qualifications Framework?
RPC has 60 credits in the PMI framework. Full details
