Summary of the Complex Situation:

The focus of this challenge will be on developing adequate understanding of the game of
Lacrosse, Canadas national summer sport. In addition, to the development of
knowledge, students will need to demonstrate adequate technical development in
regards to passing, receiving, and shooting with an implement. Students will have to
display proper sporting behavior by showing respect to teammates and opponents
through words and gestures, in addition to respecting the equipment and environment.
Students will be placed into teams of seven by the teacher. Within their teams, students
will elect a team captain for the entirety of the 8 periods on Lacrosse. The captain will
serve as the intermediary between the team and the teacher. As such, the captains
responsibilities will include:
- Relaying information from the teacher to the team
- Respectfully asking the teacher (the referee) for the rationale behind a certain call
made on a play
- Help mediate conflicts amongst team members
While these roles are specifically for the team captains, the team has a role to play as
well. Each team is responsible for devising a strategic plan to:
- Develop tactics in the game of Lacrosse
- Help improve techniques used in Lacrosse
Sportspersonship will be assessed throughout the eight lessons.

Assessment Criteria (From Progressions of Learning Document)

Knowledge:
- Names the technical aspects of performing different movement skills pertaining to
the physical activity performed.

Skills:
- Communicates various misleading messages appropriate to the activity
- Attacks the opponents target by throwing or striking the object upon reception
- Moves efficiently in relation to the target or goal to be protected, teammates,
opponents and the object
- Counterattacks the opposing team
- Guards the non-carriers by staying close to the non-carrier while protecting the
passing lane and the target

Behavior:
- Plays his/her role in the game or activity in accordance with the established
strategy or plan of action (e.g. forward, non carrier, goal keeper)
- Demonstrates fair play at every level of the game
- Names the official rules of the game or the rules adapted by the teacher

Lacrosse.

in order to accomplish the task that the activity demands.

skills in the context of a game.
- Cognitive understanding will be evaluated through game situation questions
provided by the teacher.
