Sa sini nga bahin, akon
ginapaambit ang isa ka bagay nga,

tungod kay ini may kaangtanan sa

maayo man siguro nga magpaambit

religious and lay faithful participates
in and takes responsibility for, because,
in the first place, they embrace the
Church as their OWN.
It will take months to finish
the construction of our parochial
house. Much amount is needed, so
your generous contribution is most
welcome and deeply appreciated. But
what will make this parochial house
OURS is our recognizing it as our own
and, more importantly, in our greater
participation in our parish.
We can truly become a
participatory Church through
our active participation in the
sacramental life of the Church, in our
lay organizations and ministries, in
our MKK and in our daily witnessing
of the Gospel to others. In this way,
parishioners can become the lay
heroes and saints the bishops call for
us to be in this Year of the Laity.
Let us pray that we may always be
light-bearing and life-giving Christians
that God intends us to be through our
fraternal communion and charity. In
this way, our Church, our parish, is
truly OUR HOME!

The Pastor Speaks... Heartbeats...
Ang Doktrina Sosyal sang Simbahan
S
a sini nga mga panahon, ang
tig-una nga ginakabalak-
an sang Simbahan amo ang
sosyal nga bahin sang kabuhi nga
Kristiano. Tungod sang pagbalhin
kag pagkambio sang moderno nga
ekonomiya kag ang bag-o nga mga
sitwasyon sa patag sang trabaho
nga nangin bunga sang sini nga
pagkambyo, nagtubo kag nag-
uswag man ang doktrina sosyal
sang Simbahan.
Ang kabalaka sang Simbahan sa
kalibutanon nga mga butang indi
pangpolitika ukon pang-ekonomiya
ukon pangteknolohiya, tungod kay
ang iya misyon pangrelihiyoso kag
pang-moralidad. Ang iya ginatinguha
nga matigayon amo ang pagpabakod
sang mga espirituhanon kag moral
nga sadsaran sang sosyedad.
Diri sa aton sa Pilipinas, ang
Ikaduha nga Konsilyo Plenaryo
naghatag sing konkreto nga mga
pagtulon-an nahanungod sini, ilabi
patag-sosyal.
A
house is not a home, an old
song goes. So what makes a
house a home? Its love, if we
listen closely to the lyrics of the song.
But beyond love, it is truly responsibility,
caring for and maintaining unity and
peace in the house that makes it a home.
In other words, we need to OWN it, not
just as a boardinghouse, a lodging place
or rented apartment but a HOME that
we call our OWN. For a home is not just
a roof above our heads but a dwelling
place, where our heart finds comfort,
yearns for and returns to. Thats why we
often say, Theres no place like home.
The construction project for our
parochial house (or popularly known
as convent) is therefore not just about
construction, per se. It is building a
home for the whole parish. True, it will
be a residence of our pastors tasked to
take care of our spiritual and pastoral
needs. But it will also be where our
administrative and pastoral offices are
to be located.
But isnt this parochial house
OWNED by the priests who reside in
it? This is actually a myth since pastors
constantly move from one parish to
Sa patag-politika, ang Konsilyo
nagasiling nga ang awtoridad politikal
may iya kaugalingon nga awtonomiya
sa pagpatigayon sang kaayohan sang
komunidad, lamang nga ini ginagamit
suno sa kondisyon nga ginahatag
sang orden moral. Sa malip-ot nga
pulong, samtang nga ang Simbahan
wala nagapahilabot sa politika, ang
mga pastor kag kaparian may ila
nga kinamatarong kag katungdanan
nahanungod sa moralidad sang mga
buluhaton pangpolitika, samtang
ang mga laiko may ila man nga
kinamatarong kag katungdanan sa
aktibo kag direkta nga partisipasyon
sa politika. Subong man, ang
kaparian kag laiko, may ila gid nga
katungdanan sa pagpasilabot sa
politika kon napahamtang sa peligro
ang mga values sang Ebanghelyo kag
sang moralidad.
Sa patag-sosyal naman, maathag
katama ang sitwasyon pang-sosyal
kag pang-ekonomiya diri sa aton
pungsod. Lakip sa mga problema sang
aton sosyedad amo ang nagadaku nga
antad sa tunga sang manggaranon
kag sang imol, ang kadamuon sang
mga wala sing trabaho, ang problema
sang kakulang sing pagkaon, ang
gutom, kag ang paglapas sang
tawohanon nga kinamatarong. Ang
ordinaryo nga Pilipino may iya nga
sabat sa sini nga mga panghangkat
nahanungod sa pagkilala sang iya
responsibilidad sosyal bilang disipulo
ni Jesukristo. Ini nga panghangkat
nagadala sa iya sa maathag nga panan-
awan nahanungod sa iya tawohanon
nga kinamatarong sa patag sang
ekonomiya, halimbawa, ang
kinamatarong sa pagtrabaho, sa husto
nga sweldo, kag sa pagkabutang;
sa patag sang politika, halimbawa,
ang kinamatarong sa pagboto, sa
pagka-alalangay sa atubangan sang
kasugoan, sa pagsaylo sing estado,
kag kinamatarong pang-kultura
kag relihiyosa.
Kag diri nagtuhaw ang bag-o
nga ideya nga amo ang sal sosyal.
Akon ini padayunon nga ipaathag sa
masunod nga isyu sang Candlelight.
Owning
another. But how can parishioners
OWN it when they most rarely visit
it? True. But the parochial house
is not only the priests residence or
an office but a gathering place for
organizational and prayer meetings,
formation seminars, and seminar
workshops. It is also the birthplace of
every Candle Light issue.
The Gospel this Sunday strikes
a familiar cord. It narrates how
Jesus feeds 5,000 men, not including
women and children, through the
multiplication of loaves of bread and
fish. Although what immediately
catches our attention is Jesus
miraculous power, it also reveals
that He owned the responsibility to
respond to the needs of the multitude.
Others suggest that the multiplication
miracle was an act of sharing among
the people themselves. From this
perspective one can deduce that the
people OWNED the responsibility to
feed and take care of one another as
brothers and sisters.
The Church today is often
described as a participatory Church.
It is a Church where everyone - clergy,

Orientation Seminar for Weekend Catechesis
Lalaine D. Pasquin
An half-day Orientation Seminar for Weekend Catechesis was held last July 13,
2014, at the La Isabelita Hall, Jaro Cathedral Compound. Participants were also energized
through action and praise songs which contributed to making the activity more
enthusiastic and inspiring, making them more committed to their mission in catechizing
the children.
Mr. Antonio Pasquin, Parish Education Animator, explained the purpose of the
Week-end Catechesis and its guidelines, which are as follows: 1. There should not be more
than ten children per catechist, per session; 2) Children should be 7 to 12 years old; 3) The
whole session should not be more than 45 minutes; 4) Session should be held only in one
of the houses of the neighborhood, and with enough space (a sala, garage, etc) for ten
children; 5) Make a list of names with birthdays, baptismal, confirmation, etc. of parents,
brothers and sisters, or other siblings in the family that could be of use in teaching them to
make cards for special occasions with quotation from Scriptures; 6) Use occasions and
special religious events to teach the children to make cards for special occasions, for the
members of their family, like valentines, mothers and fathers day, & All Saints Day; 7)
The session follows the Basic Order to deepen the knowledge of the children, but it can be
postponed in the event of a significant occasion or event, like for example, Feast days.
The number of volunteer catechists increased. They were assigned to other
barangays or sitios that were without childrens catechesis. This is the Schedule of

they are appreciative especially when they see

sang aton proyekto subong?
Sa Amerika, kag ayhan sa iban man nga pungsod nga
nagahambal sa English, kon may isa nga magpamangkot, Diin
ang kombento? (Where is the convent?), ila sia ginatudlo
sa balay nga gina-estaran sang mga madre. Ina tungod kay
sa Amerika, ang ginapuy-an sang kura paroko ginatawag nga
Rectory. Tungod sini, lain iya ang kahulogan sang Convent
(Kombento) kag lain man ang Rectory, kag ining duha wala
komunidad. Kag gani subong, ang tinaga nga kombento
amo ang puluy-an ukon mga puluy-an sang mga komunidad
nga relihiyosa nga ginakapu-an sang mga babayi kag mga
lalaki.
paroko, bisan pa nga ini nga simbahan indi parokya kag
balay-puloy-an sang isa ka kura paroko.
Pero may isa pa gid ka butang nga dapat man naton
dumdumon. Ang balay nga dapat puy-an sang kura paroko
sa parokya lain man sang sa puloy-an sang pari. Ano abi, kon
ang mismo balay nga ginapuy-an sang kura paroko amo man
parokya? Kag sa plano sang aton proyekto nga inyo makita sa
natalana nga isyu sang Candlelight, amo gid ini ang ginapaabot
nga matigayon. Gani, ano sa inyo? Kombento? Balay sang
Pari? Ukon Balay sang Parokya? (to be continued)

Retrofitting vs Major Repair
To retrofit a building is to basically strengthen the structural
elements such as beams and pillars, making the building
structurally fit. It may not undo the layout of the space, its basically
faster and less expensive than doing a general repair. Our initial
assessments and plans were geared towards retrofitting but in the
process of planning which included studying our spatial needs and
other living requirements, it became clearer that we needed to do
a major repair.
A major repair is not tantamount to a new construction. A
major repair will construct only what needs to be and retain areas
that can still serve its purpose. It will involve some reconfiguration
of space to best serve existing and future spatial requirements. The
present layout of the convento is a product of evolution basically
made necessary by how the offices as well as parish lifestyle have
also evolved in their function and needs. Thus, the existing layout
though serviceable can seem tentative and confusing. The general
repair hopes to achieve a more rationalized use of space which
will hopefully result into an efficient structure that can respond to
evolving parochial needs.
This is the general direction of the project. In the coming
days, and as the project progresses, details and updates will be
provided.

Lets Do This Together, NOW!
The convent while serving as residence for priests, who serve
the parish, is really our communal home. A convent while giving
the priests in residence their needed privacy, only do so in the
context of them being able to minister well the flock entrusted
to their care. In the end, a well-rested priest, a priest who has
space for study, and more importantly, a priest with a conducive
environment to pray will become more effective pastor for the
flock.
The convent also facilitates the administrative and pastoral
needs of the parish as it houses as well, the parish office as well as
offices for various ministries. The end goal of these offices is for
the welfare of the parishioners. They exist to serve the needs of
the parishioners as well as other devotees.
Thus, this general repair is presented to you not as a distant
endeavor you have nothing to do with, but as our own. As pastors,
it is incumbent on us to exercise initiative and direction however
(but) we are well aware that we are in congruence with you.
Your active help and participation is indispensable! Our parish
conventgeneral repair project then is an endeavor with the
community, by the community and for the community!
Three years after we accomplished the repair of the Jaro
Cathedral, we once again take this task at hand because it is urgent
and because we can do it, NOW!
The estimated cost of the project is 15 million pesos. It is a
big amount. Anything big will always be overwhelming. It does not
mean however that it is not doable. If once more we make this
project our own and share what we can, the repeat of another
miracle of sharing is not far behind.
Together with our efforts, it is of utmost importance that
we pray to God for the fruitfulness of this endeavor! Through
the intercession of Ntra. Sra. de la Candelaria, we embrace this
endeavor trusting and confident!

Dodong B. and myself were eating, Fr. Dodong
stood up, got a saucer full of vinegar (sina-

directly under Msgr. Gamboas nose, then in-
nocently and sweetly said, Msgr. share kita.
When I saw this I almost fainted. We never

for Msgr. Gamboa could not stand it, not even
its smell from the kitchen. When this was
