Immunity

If you have Immunity, you have protection and are resistant to something. For
example, if there is a disease going around the world that 66.66% will catch (because
of a blood type or something else quite scientific, then !!.!!% will be immune (they
won"t get that disease# they will have protection and resistance.
$r, if another disease is going around that only people with blood type % will get, and
you have blood type &, you will be invulnerable to that disease.
Acquired Immunity
%cquired Immunity is when you acquire immunity to something, you don"t naturally
have it. For example, if you get an in'ection for bird flu 'ust before you go overseas,
you will be immune to bird flu (if there is any that is floating around in the air (in
tiny little particles.
$ther names for having %cquired Immunity are (pecific Immunity, )esistance and
(pecific )esistance.
*etting an in'ection or vaccination is also properly called %rtificial Immunity
(because it doesn"t occur naturally.
Developed Immunity or Natural Immunity.
+eveloped Immunity or ,atural Immunity is when you are immune to something (eg
a disease or virus naturally. -hat is, without having to have an in'ection or any other
artificial intervention.
,atural Immunity .xample# %n example of this can be seen in the movie I Am
Legend, in which the main character (played by /ill (mith is naturally immune to a
horrible disease that turns around 00.01% (or something li2e that of the world"s
population into hideous 3ombie#li2e things that are allergic to daylight. %t first he
thin2s he is the only person in the world that is immune to this disease, but towards
the end of the film we discover that there is actually a whole survivors population
(made up of the 4.45 or 4.46 percent of the population that was immune to the virus
still living in the mountains. -he story is set in the future, where he is the last human
alive in ,ew 7or2 8ity.
-his movie was set in 6454, which was supposed to be two years after the virus hit.
+eveloped Immunity .xample# %n example of +eveloped Immunity is (sometimes
chic2en pox. 9sually if you have chic2en pox when you are a child (sometime
between the ages of : and 54, you will most li2ely not get it again in that time
(because your body has developed immunity.
%n %ntigen is a type of invading germ (li2e an enemy to the body. -he first time it
appears, the body"s immune system recognises it as foreign (something the body
doesn"t want and ma2es antibodies to fight it and memorises it, so that the next time
that same antigen appears, the body"s immune system is ready to fight it. -hat is why
young children get lots of colds, because their body is developing immunity to various
common viruses.
