Cairns Athletics congratulate our athletes, and all of the athletes from the region who competed admirably in the 2014 Oceania Championships
Officiating and Coaching Day Whilst the numbers at the inaugural Officiating Day werent great, those who did attend undoubtedly came away with a greater understanding of the rules and regulations of track and field which will prove a fantastic asset at our club days in helping our events run smoothly.
Thank you to our officiating presenters, Kevin Cull, Sue Slatcher and Rob Murchie, and to our coach Heather Vaughan for giving our athletes on hand some additional coaching, specifically for our younger athletes.
Tolga Pentathlon Day What a great day up at Tolga for athletics in the region.

Townsville North Star Team Challenge Day Townsville North Star Athletics Club will be holding their annual "TEAM CHALLENGE" DAY (formerly Relay Day) on Sunday 31st August at the Townsville Sports Reserve.
This is a fun filled, yet competitive day of athletics catering for all members of the family from 5years of age. Teams of 4 compete in a relay style competition to accumulate points to determine overall placings at the completion of events.
Age groups are determined by the overall total age of the 4 team members, so you can mix and match family members, club members, work mates, school friends etc. to make up your team.
This year they have expanded the number of team divisions to include a 'Mixed' division meaning you can have a team of all males, all females or a mixed team.
In addition, this year they are offering a bigger and better event with a '5km team run' (10yrs minimum age) being added to the program as a lead up to the 'Track & Field Team Challenge'.
Given this is a team event, we will have a registration of interest form up at club day to write your name and age group on if you wish to be placed in a team.
Alternatively if you have three other athletes who have already formed a team you can lodge your team registration on line at http://www.townsvillenorthstar.org.au/
Team Bus for Townsville Northstar Team Challenge Day Sue Slatcher is looking to organize a team bus to travel to Townsville for the Challenge Day. Leaving on Sunday morning around 4:00am and returning after completion of competition this is an opportunity for those parents and athletes to save themselves the drive and relax / sleep on the way down and back.
Minimum numbers will be required to make this viable, so could you please email through your registration of interest to travel on the bus to president@cairnsathletics.org.au by Monday 11 August 2014, with the names of the athletes and supporters wanting to travel on the team bus.
We should be able to confirm by Friday 14 August whether we have sufficient numbers to secure the team bus.
ANQ Track and Fi eld Championships This is the last competition on the club season, and one which is worth planning for now.
Accommodation can be a bit scarce in Townsville over these dates, so make the bookings now.
ANQ Track and Field Championships will be held from the 3 rd to 5 th October, 2014
Online nominations are now on the ANQ website, www.athleticsnorthqld.org.au and links.
Remember for our athletes in the 12yr old age groups through to U20s, this is the equivalent to the State Championships, as athletes who place first or second are eligible to nominate for the Australian J unior Championships. For more information on the qualification process have a chat to me, Shane Watson, at club day or training.
Peninsul a Sport Primary and Secondary Championships Sunday 17 and Monday 18 August Cairns Athletics will be running the canteen for Peninsula Trials, which is a significant fund raiser for the year to enable us to keep our fees low and our equipment at a national level quality. However to run a canteen for such a large carnival we need assistance, so if you can spare some time on either Sunday or Monday please send us an email at president@cairnsathletics.org.au listing the days and which hours you are available to help out.
