acquisition of Zain Africa in 2010, it is now the 4
th
largest operator in the world
with 262Mn subscribers, with revenues of $15Bn (as of FY12)!
Our Go-To-Market strategy is unique, varying with the products/businesses, and
hence giving multi-industry flavor. While the Prepaid sales offer an experience
much similar to that of FMCG sales, the DTH business gives an exposure quite
similar to that of FMCD sector. Even the services (CSD) see varied approach
depending on the type of customer involved. Apart from this, our new business
lines (own retail, airtel.com, data & devices) give an opportunity to work in a start-
up like environment. Each team strives to innovate, thus living our motto of Jobs
Never Done Before in their day to day lives.

Young Leaders Program (YLP)
Job description (for each role)
Young Leaders Program (YLP) is airtels Flagship Management Trainee program for
the selected candidates from Indian premier B-schools. Started in the year 2001,
the program has successfully ventured into its 14
th
edition this year with many
Young Leaders currently holding diverse business portfolios and leadership
positions across functions & locations.
Keeping in mind the changing business scenario of the telecom industry, we have
redefined the program this year, making it a General Management Program.
The new design will ensure a fast paced career path for YLs giving them an
opportunity to take up some of the leadership positions in functions like Sales,
Marketing and Customer Service in the next 3-4 years.
As a part of this program, there is a structured training plan for the first 12
months. This first year ensures holistic learning through regular stints in the key
functions- Sales, Marketing and CSD (3-4 months each). These core stints are
complemented by cross-functional stints (across Network, Finance & Distribution),
a CSR initiative and a Global exposure for diverse learning. Not only this, the
projects and target based assignments will be accompanied by mentoring by airtel
senior leaders as well.
At the end of this 1 year of learning, the YLs will be allocated to one of the roles in
any of these three functions for a period of 24 months (Sales- Zonal Sales
Manager, Customer Service- Zonal CS Head, Marketing- CLM Theme Owner).

YL Program offers an unparalleled freedom to rotate functions and roles, typically
after 18-24 months, across 13 telecom circles in India! On successful first role
completion, the YLs will be assessed for senior leadership roles providing immense
team & business management responsibilities. For ex: Sales (Zonal Business
Manager), Marketing (Central Marketing Roles), CSD (Zonal Operations Manager,
Collections Heads etc).
