Test load/load capacity:
Our test certificates are your peace of mind.
We guarantee that our standard covers, if completely filled
with C 35/45 concrete (European Standard EN 206) will
achieve the specified test load.
If a tiled finish is used, the test loading will be slightly reduced.
With type BVH-maxi, BVH-GD-maxi and BVHS 250/400 the
full test load is achieved with a concrete thickness of 5 cm.

Our own monitoring:
As part of product development and quality assurance,
HAGO carries out load-bearing capacity tests with our own
testing facility. We can thus guarantee optimal product features

A C C E S S C O V E R S
Precision-made:
Our covers are manufactured to an accuracy based
on EN Standard 22768-1 Tolerance for length
and corner dimensions.
Waterproofing:
Our sealed covers are (unless otherwise advised) resistant to
standing surface water or back pressure up to 0.1 bar
=1000 mm head of water. (Photo: Watertightness test)
Fire protection:
An official IBS fire-test confirms that fire cannot pass
through our BV-F90 cover for a period of at least
90 minutes.
Stock:
We keep large stocks of all standard HAGODECK
covers permanently available for you at our Wels warehouse,
our Vienna branch and our dealers.
Packaging and Labelling:
Standard covers are packed with cardboard corners.
These provide adequate protection during transport, and minimum use of
cardboard is environmentally sound.
Corners are printed with the size and type of cover clearly visible,
simplifying stock-control in the warehouse or on site.

HAGO corners:
Our corner system is a simple, small, attractive interface between the lifting point
and the floor finish. Aesthetically pleasing to architects and designers,
with minimum disturbance to the finish. Installers throughout Europe consider
the HAGO logo a discrete sign of quality.
Installation instructions:
Hard to miss them: they are bright red, clear and brief,
yet filled with useful tips for trouble-free installation.
Opening tools:
Every HAGO access cover comes with a complete set,
firmly tied to it to minimise loss in transit. No need to order
(or pay for) them separately.
Gas lift-struts:
Covers which feature assisted opening are equipped with high quality, rugged and
durable gas struts (1). For extra heavy covers we use patented double-piston
gas struts (2) - see pages 16, 17 & 18.
Cross-beam system:
Our patented HAGO cross-beam system is central to the success of our multi-part
duct covers. The sealed cross beams can be fitted and removed without tools and
make the installation stable and largely watertight - see pages 25 - 27.

Features: Completely water tight access
cover for use with high specification
floor finishes. Tested to be leak proof to
1.000 mm head of water from above or
below. Precision-cast corner joints are welded
to the frame extrusions to give a completely
rigid frame and facilitate tile-cutting/fixing. Thin
(3mm) extrusions at floor level are almost invi-
sible when installed and the covers are highly
corrosion resistant.

HAGODECK Type BVA alu cover comes
with a set of lifting keys and precise installation
instructions.
The HAGO advantage: jammed covers are
released by simply turning the Golden Key.
Applications: As a sealed cover inside buil-

Materials: Cover and frame in aluminium
extrusions. Aluminium base plate, with flush to
floor hinge.
Features: The cover is raised by the hinge
significantly reducing the effort needed. A
safety device is fitted, locking the cover in the
raised position. Pre-filled with lightweight con-
crete. This provides a significant reduc-
tion in weight compared to normal con-
crete fillings. A recess of 20 mmis left for
the floor finish with slabs, tiles, parquet etc.
With thin tiles, the difference in depth should
be compensated for on site with tile adhesive.
A sealed cover of high quality with a very
attractive finish, especially the visible edges.
Stable corner joints guarantee a very high
degree of rigidity and facilitate an exact
connection with tiles, slabs etc.

Material: BV-shallow-frame and cover in
2 mm cold-formed precision steel profiles. Hot-
dip galvanised. BVE-shallow-all stainless steel,
grade 304, passivated after manufacturing.
Features: Sealed cover with an installati-
on depth of only 5 cm. The shallow
frame means it will often fit in a
screed - and the cover is lighter to
lift. The base plate of the cover is reinforced.
Tapered design allows easy opening. Virtually
invisible when in place. EPDM seals. Steel mesh

brackets, and fire resistant seal.
Features: Largely water tight access cover
for use in buildings. Thin (2 mm) sections at
floor level are almost invisible when installed
and the tapered design facilitates lifting.
Fire test certificate: The certificate issued
following a live fire-test by the Institute for Fire
Protection Technology and Safety Research
(IBS) confirms that the HAGODECK Type
BV-F 90 steel resists a fire for 90 minutes
and thus significantly contributes to safety in
the event of a fire.
The Lift-Off opening system: Every
HAGODECK Type BV-F 90 steel cover
comes with a set of lifting keys and precise
installation instructions. After lifting out the
cover, the fire protection panel can be remo-
ved using its grab handle. The shaft is then
accessible without restriction.
The HAGO advantage: jammed covers are
released by simply turning the Golden Key.
Applications: Access covers inside buildings
and their surroundings that are required to be
watertight and fire resistant.
Installation: Installation must be carried out
according to our installation instructions. Care

Materials: BV-GD -2 mm cold formed pre-
cision steel profiles hot dip galvanised. BVE-
GD - all stainless steel, grade 304, passivated
after manufacturing. Both models use stainless
steel hinges, EPDM seals and gas lift-struts.
Features: Largely water tight hinged cover
with gas-strut assisted lifting so that the cover
can be opened with one hand. Safety device
fitted to prevent the open cover from closing.
Applications: As a cover over installations
that need regular maintenance, and where one
man operation may be expected. BVE-GD is
particularly recommended over plant in swim-
ming pool areas.
Installation: Every HAGODECK Type BV-
GD or BVE-GD cover comes with a set of
lifting keys and precise installation instructions.
Installation must be carried out according to
our instructions. Particular care must be taken
to seal the frame into the surrounding floor.

The HAGO BVH-GD is fitted with patented,
high-specification double-piston gas struts. (piston 1:
high lift capacity, piston 2: low lift capacity) The forces
developed are shown in the graph and follow the
actual force needed to move the cover. This system

Materials: Cover and frame sections in extruded aluminium base plate, die cast
aluminium combined corner joints/lifting points. Steel mesh reinforcement,
EPDM seals.
Features: Largely water tight access cover for use with high specification floor
finishes. Precision-cast corner joints are welded to the frame extrusions to give a
completely rigid frame and facilitate tile-cutting/fixing. Thin (3mm) extrusions at floor
level are almost invisible when installed and the covers are highly corrosion resistant.
Demountable cross-beams are used (HAGO patent no 396796) which are remo-
ved without tools to give clear access to the duct. The beams include permanent
seals to form a joint where the beam sits in the side frame.
The Lift-Off opening system: Every HAGODECK Type BVA multi alu
comes with a set of lifting keys and precise installation instructions.
The HAGO advantage: jammed covers are released by simply turning the Golden
Key.
Applications: As a sealed cover inside buildings when a particularly high level of

Cover: In our sealed versions in steel or stainless steel, the cover is already designed to be
watertight. In our fillable aluminium covers (e.g. BVA), the base plate is only spot-welded for
technical reasons (distortion). Here it is important that the concrete infill provides a seal (concrete
should be shaken and well-compressed) if the cover is to be optimally watertight.
Frame: With watertight models, care must be taken to seal the outside of the frame into the
surrounding flooring (use concrete with waterproofing additives). If the covers are to be installed in
areas where a high degree of watertightness is required, please always ask for our advice.
What has to be done when
installing HAGO access covers to
ensure watertightness?
This notch is found on our steel or stainless steel covers without hinges.
We produce our covers with very little tolerance and gap dimensions. The cover and frame are then
(after galvanising or passivating) optimally realigned. The notch serves as a marker, so that this
optimal fit is not later lost by placing the cover into the framer the wrong way. For an optimal fit, the
notch in the cover should find the notch in the frame. The HAGO notch is seen today as a sign of
quality.

What is this for?
Our EPDM seals are very long-lasting when used appropriately. However, if watertightness is an
important criterion for you, we would request you to consider the seals to be a part which is subject
to wear and tear, and to check their condition regularly.
If the cover is opened and closed particularly often (e.g. models with gas struts), or if the seal is
subjected to dirt or grit, its lifespan is reduced.
If your seal appears damaged or no longer flexible, we recommend that you order a replacement
seal from HAGO (giving details of the cover model and size). Replacement seals are always
delivered with suitable glue and instructions for changing the seal.

How frequently should the seals on
HAGO access covers be renewed?
Care should be taken with flooring material which is known to shrink or expand when drying or
curing. The cover must be in the frame when the floor is laid. If necessary, fit flexible spacers
(min. width 10 mm) around the outside of the frame. These can be removed when the floor has
hardened and the gap filled with a flexible jointing material.
Can HAGO covers be fitted directly
into floors as they are laid?
No problem, just make a square concrete rim around the round opening.
This has to correspond to at least the outside dimensions of the access cover.

FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions:
A very important question, as 125 kN test load or B 125 refers to neither the wheel load nor to
the load capacity per square meter.
The basis is the European Standard EN 124. It divides possible installation locations of access covers
into six groups. Group 2 includes: footways, pedestrian and similar areas, car parks or car parking
decks.
For these areas in Group 2, the Standard provides for the installation of access covers of class B 125
(125 kN test load). Access covers are classified as B 125 with regard to load capacity if no cracks
(in simplified terms) are produced by up to 125 kN force on the test rig (25 cm diameter block).
This test procedure according to EN 124 thus serves to classify access covers.
HAGO access covers should however never be subjected to the indicated test load in normal usage.
The European Standard EN 124 does not give a direct indication of the actually possible load in kN
or tonnes. However, as a rough guideline it can be said that HAGO covers with 125 kN test load
when fully filled with grade C 34/45 concrete can be slowly driven over with a maximum of
3 tonnes wheel load (air-inflated tyres). That corresponds to the maximum wheel loads which can
be expected in car parks or car parking decks.
Does 125 kN test load mean that
the HAGO cover can be subjected
to a wheel load of 125 kN (12.5t.) or
to a load of 125 kN (12.5t) per
square metre?
In this case, the load capacity is reduced depending on the thickness and type of the material.
For normal loading in pedestrian areas, HAGO access covers are of course also suitable when filled
with blocks, tiles etc. However, the thickness of the floor finish should not excede 20 mm.
(BVA light, BVA comfort: max.10 mm).
If higher load capacities are required for covers partly filled with a floor finish, e.g. for heavy vehicles
please ask for our advice.

For models with gas struts, silicone grouting is required. With all other models, grouting with
silicone around the frame is advised but not absolutely necessary.
Should the joints between the
frame and the flooring be grouted
with silicone?
Standard (75 mm or 50 mm depth) HAGO covers should never be filled with asphalt. They need
concrete filling to achieve structural strength.
If you require an asphalt surface, please use our models with a 10 cm high cover (BVH-maxi,
BVH-GD maxi, BVHS 250/400). In this case, the cover has to be filled with approx. 7 cm of
concrete, the rest can be filled with asphalt.

HAGODECK operate a policy of continuous improvement and
reserve the right to modify specifications and/or dimensions. If the
precise measurements of our covers are critical to a particular job,
we will be pleased to confirm these on request.
Additional specification clauses:

Covers must be completely filled with concrete to category
C 35/45 EN 206, (BVH - Maxi, BVH-GD maxi and
BVHS 250/400, 5 cm of concrete layer) if the cover is to
achieve the specified test load.

Where sealed covers are specified, care must be taken to seal the
outer frame into the surrounding floor.

If flooring material with characteristics significantly different to
concrete e.g. asphalt is to be used, specific installation instructions
should be obtained from the manufacturer.

HAGO warehouse for immediate dispatch or collection.
Items marked O (=to order) or special sizes to suit your particular
needs, please ask HAGO or your distributor about precise delivery
times. As a guideline, aluminium covers take about 3 - 4 weeks and
galvanised steel or stainless steel about 5 - 6 weeks, depending on
the quantity required.
