NSPCC
PUBLIC AFFAIRS ADVISER: August 2009 - Present
Manage the relationship between parliamentarians, advisers, civil servants and the
NSPCC. Communicate to senior management the potential threats to our position and
policy.

Primary responsibilities include:


• Monitor policy developments within Westminster and Europe
• Maintain relationships with external and internal audiences, briefing the CEO
and other senior figures within the organisation on urgent developments
• Organisation of NSPCC Party Conference fringe events
• Meet regularly with MPs and officials to gather intelligence and brief on our
position
• Create the political dissemination plans for our major research and policy
briefings

DODS PARLIAMENTARY COMMUNCATIONS


MONITORING CONSULTANT: January 2008 – August 2009
Client facing, focusing on financial services sector and retail policy. I monitored the
workings of Parliament and the devolved administrations and handled the accounts
of twenty-seven clients including two of Britain’s largest banks.

Primary responsibilities included:


 Gathering intelligence for clients to provide early warning of specific regulatory
news, policy announcements, forthcoming debates in Parliament and
Parliamentary committee hearings
 Monitoring of Parliament and the devolved assemblies. In addition to government
departments, key stakeholders, pressure groups and party conference fringe
events
 Managing the workflow of interns
 Produce briefings for clients on legislation and regulatory issues
 Create monthly and weekly reviews and forecasts of the financial services sector
 Liaise with political parties, media and other stakeholders
 Carry out detailed client specific research, including policy briefings and
legislative and events calendars
 Support the events team and Party conference and major events
 Regularly attend Treasury briefings and held meetings with House of Commons
Treasury Committee officials.

INTERESTS/ ACTIVITIES
Travel: I have travelled extensively planning and funding my own trips. This has
included crossing the whole of the Amazon River from Peru to Brazil alone, learning
Italian in Florence for 3 months, being part of an expedition to Mt. Cotapaxi in
Ecuador and completing the Inca Trail in Peru.
Sports: Have always been a keen sportsman and currently play cricket, football,
squash, surf and rock-climb. I represented my school at rugby 1st XV level and toured
with them to Australia. I also played for Finchley R.F.C. (1997 – 2000) on weekends
and for Exeter Saracens RFC (2004 – 2006) while at university.

Volunteer: Working with children from the Somali community, helping them with
homework and revision in the lead up to their examination period.
