Confined Space Basic Entry

Aim
The practical confined space basic entry incl. escape breathing apparatus course is designed to give
individuals a safe working knowledge and understanding of basic confined space working including safe
entry and exit procedures along with an overview of various items of safety equipment including the use
of various escape breathing apparatus. This is designed to promote safer working within the confined
space environment giving the delegates a practical working knowledge of procedures and safe systems
of work.
Objectives
The delegates will be able to identify and understand basic hazards associated with confined spaces.
Understand how to safely enter, work and exit a confined space. Be able to identify and use various items
of safety equipment. They will also understand how to set up a safe system of work including emergency
arrangements.

Achievement Measure
This can be competence based with final written paper, or attendance based, depending on the clients
request. Our confined space courses are aligned to the new Energy and Utility Skills national
occupational standard, and the Water UK National Confined Space competency standards.
A certificate of competence or attendance is issued on successful completion of the course.
Long Term Evaluation
On average over fifteen people are killed every year in the UK in confined spaces. In addition many more
are critically injured. Those killed not only include workers, but those trying to rescue them. At the end of
this course the delegates will be more than aware of the dangers associated with confined space working.
The long term evaluation should show a much safer working procedure and promote a more safety
conscious workforce.
This awareness certification is valid for 3 years and requires a refresher and update course within this
time. It is strongly advised that delegates refresh annually, which can be done in house or at one of our
own venues.
