Dear Parents/Guardians;

Welcome to FIRST grade! My name is Yahaira Carlson and I am going to be your childs partial
immersion first grade teacher (math and science). I am so excited that your child is going to be in my class!
Let me first start by sharing some information about myself professionally and personally. First, I would
like for you and your child to call me Maestra Yahaira. People say Im a funny, reliable, artistic, very
dynamic, organized, passionate and committed person. I am originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico. This is
my 13
th
year of teaching. I started teaching kindergarten back in Puerto Rico in 2001. I also taught first,
second and fifth and six grade there. In 2006 I moved to Colorado and taught early childhood (Pre-K) in
Spanish and English for 7 wonderful years. I graduated in 2006 from the University of Phoenix with a
masters degree in Early Childhood Education and I have a bachelors degree from the University of Puerto
Rico in Elementary Education. I love to travel and learn about new cultures and places. In my spare time I
like to shop, go to the beach/lake, and salsa dancing. Ah, one thing I dont like iscooking!
First grade is an exciting time as children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. This is a
year of important transitions, as well as one in which acquisition of new skills is accelerated. First graders
develop fundamental work habits, appropriate social behavior, problem solving and important decision-
making and academic skills. As your child's teacher, my main goal is to help every child succeed in their
education and to inspire a great passion for life and learning. I will plan carefully and vary my instructional
strategies in order to best challenge and meet the needs of all the students in my class. I will strive each day
to make learning a fun and enriching process for your child.
However, I need your help in making this year as successful as it can be! I believe that you and I are a team
working together to help your child develop emotionally and academically. You are the most important
person in your childs life and you are also a teacher in your childs life. I know if we work together and

Estimados padres / tutores;

Bienvenidos al primer grado! Mi nombre es Yahaira Carlson y yo voy a ser la maestra de inmersin parcial
(matemticas y ciencias) en el primer grado de su hijo(a). Estoy muy emocionado porque su hijo(a) va a estar en mi
clase!
Permtanme empezar por compartir un poco de informacin sobre m. En primer lugar, me gustara que usted
y su hijo(a) me llamen "Maestra Yahaira". La gente dice que soy una persona divertida, confiable, artstica, muy
dinmica, organizada, apasionada y comprometida. Soy originaria de San Juan, Puerto Rico. Este es mi 13 ao
como maestra. Comenc a dar clases de kindergarten en Puerto Rico en el 2001, tambin ense primero, segundo,
quinto y sexto grado. En 2006 me mud a Colorado y ense la clase de preescolar (Pre-K) en Espaol y en Ingls
por 7 aos maravillosos. Me gradu en 2006 de la Universidad de Phoenix con una maestra en Educacin Infantil y
tengo un bachillerato de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en la Educacin Primaria. Me encanta viajar, conocer nuevas
culturas y lugares. En mi tiempo libre me gusta ir de compras, ir a la playa / lago, y el baile de salsa. Ah, una cosa
que no me gusta es ... cocinar!
Primer grado es muy emocionante porque los nios se inician nuevas aventuras en el mundo del aprendizaje. Este es
un ao de transiciones importantes, as como uno en la que se acelera la adquisicin de nuevas habilidades. Los
estudiantes de primer grado desarrollan hbitos de trabajo fundamentales, conducta social adecuada, resolucin
de problemas y toma de decisiones importantes, as como habilidades acadmicas. Como maestra de su hijo(a), mi
meta principal es ayudar a cada nio(a) a tener xito en su educacin e inspirar una gran pasin por la vida y el
aprendizaje. Durante el ao, yo a planificar cuidadosamente y variar mis estrategias de enseanza con el fin de
retar y responder a las necesidades de todos los estudiantes en mi clase. Me esforzar cada da para hacer que el
aprendizaje sea divertido y un proceso enriquecedor para su hijo(a).
Sin embargo, necesito su ayuda en hacer que este ao sea tan exitoso como lo puede ser. Creo que usted y yo
somos un equipo que debe trabajar en conjunto para ayudar a su hijo(a) a desarrollarse emocionalmente y
acadmicamente. Usted es la persona ms importante en la vida de su hijo(a) y usted tambin es un maestro en la
vida de su hijo(a). S que si trabajamos juntos y nos comunicamos, su hijo(a) tendr un ao muy exitoso! Por favor,
