behaviour is good, he believes, but

The pupil
It starts with talking and general
messing about*, says 16-year-old
Charlotte Richman from Beaminster.
But then the teacher shouts. And
when the teacher shouts, everyone
else takes it as a signal to talk,
because there doesnt seem to be
much work going on. It takes the
teacher ve minutes to get the pupils
to listen. But these minutes become
hours, the hours become days and
the days become weeks ve weeks
to be exact. And its the pupils who
suffer. The people who want to learn
dont get to learn, says Charlotte.
The teachers and the inspector
Teachers are fed up with bad
behaviour. It means they cant do
what they are paid to do - teaching.
Were not police and were not
parents, says one teacher. Some
kids dont know how to behave in
any social situation whether its in
a classroom or a restaurant, says
another teacher, Jim Porter. But the
Governments Schools Inspector, Sir
Alan Steer, doesnt agree. He has

there is also lots of behaviour that is
not acceptable. This year, behaviour
teams will go into schools where the
teachers need help. But pupils can
take control too. Were not children,
says Brandon from Luton. We know
