COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is an English class for students with an intermediate plus speaking and listening ability in English.
Students must be at least at an intermediate plus level of English. In this class, students will all be
discussing and debating various topics. Topics can be current events, philosophical, cultural, and
anything students are interested in. This class will make students use critical thinking in order to discuss
and debate topics. Students will be debating and discussing topics from the teacher and will also find
topics of their own for the class to discuss.

ATTENDANCE (10%)
Class is 2 hours each week
10 minutes or more late = 1 ABSENCE
3 times late (<10 minutes) = 1 ABSENCE
10 hours absent = FAIL
If absent, must receive an OFFICIAL Silla Excuse from Student Services ( 1F), not the
teacher
PARTICIPATION & HOMEWORK (25%)
Active participation in discussions and debates is required. Students will receive points for
participation.
Students must prepare notes based on homework readings before class.
SOCRATIC SEMINAR (20%)
Active discussion following certain guidelines and requirements.
RULES
ALWAYS try, ALWAYS work hard
Bring a class notebook to every class
If sleeping or using a cell phone socially, one warning and then absent for the hour
