CHILDHOOD :
At a young age, St George served in the Roman Army. He was praised
many times for his spectacular service to the Empire.

When George was young, his dad martyred for his faith (which means
he decided to die instead of believing in his faith.) After his death,
his mother took him to Palestine where she had some farm land.
In the year 303 A.D a man called Diocletian called his army and said he
would persecute the Christians. St George told him that he was a
Christian. The emperor declared men to take him to take him to prison
and place a boulder on his chest as a form of torture. He suffered many
tortures because of his belief.
After Saint George was put in prison, he was taken to a wheel with
sharp spikes. Diocletian was admired by St Georges courage so he told
him to sacrifice to the gods to save himself but he refused his request
and said hed martyr for Christ, like his father. Then he prayed. After he
finished praying, he heard a voice saying Dont worry, Im here for you
With the help of Christ, the spikes did not harm him. When he
returned to Diocletian, he told his soldiers to dig a hole and fill it with
lime. They then drenched George with water and threw him in the
lime, hoping that his body will destroy. After 3 days, they checked on
him and to their surprise, he was unharmed! Then the put iron sandals
on him and forced him to run in them and halfway through it he was
told to resurrect a man and so he did. And again, he was taken to
Diocletian where he said that hed be executed. He turned around, bent
his head down and he was beheaded. It is amazing to hear about how
much he believed in God and how he followed his belief a lot.
Saint Georges feast day is on the 23
rd
of April. That is
when he died.
There is a myth about Saint George and a dragon. The
dragon threatened the people in the area of Atalia.
Those that were threatened were forced to live inside
the walls of their city. Every year, they would have to
sacrifice a young girl to the dragon. The year Saint
George arrived in Atalia, the kings daughter as about
to be sacrificed. Saint George placed a rope on the
dragons neck. Then he gave that rope to the princess
so that she could take the dragon back to the city.
Ive learnt to be brave and help others like how St
George did with the princess. Ive also learnt how God
can help you when you need it. I will use what I know
about God to help me in my everyday life like with
fights, misunderstandings and times when I need a
helping hand.
