Registered Nurse - Nursing Residence for Children
The Children's Place Assocation
Position Type: Part-time Paid (off campus)
Desired Major(s): SCHOOL OF NURSING
Location: Chicago (Humboldt Park), Illinois (United States)
Description: Building a secure and hopeful today so children facing
health issues and poverty succeed tomorrow. That's the
promise of The Childrens Place Association.
We help children overcome illness and extreme poverty so
they can lead healthy, productive lives. Opened in 1991 in
response to the HIV/AIDS crisis, our Chicago-based
organization now serves children and families challenged
by a wide range of conditions. Our programs include Early
Childhood Education, 24-hour Nursing, Family Housing,
Supportive Services, Foster/Adoptive Care and Summer
Camp. We serve more than 350 Chicago-area children and
caregivers annually, and our international program helps
300 HIV/AIDS-affected children in Haiti.
Since 1991, our Residential Center has served the most
medically fragile children in the greater Chicago area,
becoming a "home away from home" for this highly
vulnerable population. Children's conditions range from
cerebral palsy, developmental delays and complications of
prematurity or HIV, to shaken baby syndrome, physical or
mental abuse, or substance exposure. Hundreds of
children have been helped by the Residential Center
during its two decades of operations.
This 10-bed facility offers 24-hour care by specially
trained nursing staff and dedicated volunteers. It is more
than just a place to stay, it is somewhere children can
laugh, learn, dance, nap, eat and play. We provide
transitional care in a structured environment that includes
school activities, community outings and art projects. We
also offer family services to support and engage the
families of children at center. Children stay at the
Residential Center until they can return to their birth
parents or a suitable foster or adoptive home is found.
For more information about Children's Place, please visit
us online at www.childrens-place.org.
We are seeking a Registered Nurse to support our 24-
hour nursing residence on an on-call/as-needed basis.
The Residence is a 10-bed short-term pediatric facility
that cares for children who may be medically-complex or
disabled in a home-like environment. The children are
placed in our care to assist their transition home or to
foster care.
