Unplaced Faculty of Computing and Engineering Students originally seeking
placement in 2012/2013

Our records show that you are currently unplaced and were in second year in the
2012/2013 academic year.

Exemption Application Process

To request exemption from placement on the grounds of having relevant work experience,
please prepare the following documentation.

1. Your current CV.
2. A letter from your employer(s) stating your period(s) of employment, hours of work
and an outline of the duties of your post. (Note: your work experience must be
essentially computing related).
3. A cover letter stating your request for exemption and giving any further information
that might support your case.

To request exemption from placement on the grounds of having made sufficient effort,
please prepare the following documentation.

1. Your current CV.
2. A completed Job Search Activity Form (see enclosed), showing all of your job search
activities since the start of your second year in chronological order.
3. Evidence of all communication that you have had with employers (i.e. application
forms, cover letters, letters of rejection, emails, etc.), grouped by application and in
chronological order.
4. A cover letter stating your request for exemption and giving any further information
that might support your case.

PLEASE NOTE: You must produce evidence that you have made sufficient and
consistent effort to secure a suitable placement during the period from October 2012
and the jobs applied for must be relevant to your degree. In previous years some
students submitted evidence of applying for only a small number of jobs or had long
periods of job search inactivity. Please be aware that submission of evidence of fewer
than 20 job applications is unlikely to be viewed as sufficient effort and conversely
applying for 20+ jobs does not mean that exemption is automatic. You need to
demonstrate consistent and sufficient effort.

Electronic submissions are not normally accepted.





Deadline for submission and who it is to be sent to

Your application must arrive no later than 12:00 noon, Monday 4 August 2014, and not
normally before 25 July.

Applications from Magee based students should be sent to: Mr Aiden McCaughey,
School of Computing & Intelligent Systems, C/O School Office, Room MG048,
University of Ulster, Northland Road, Londonderry, BT48 7JL.
Applications from Coleraine based students should be sent to: Dr Norman Creaney,
School of Computing and Information Engineering, Room L135, University of Ulster,
Cromore Road, Coleraine, BT52 1SA.
Applications from Jordanstown based students should be sent to: Dr Edwin Curran,
School of Computing and Mathematics, Room 16G24, University of Ulster, Shore
Road, Newtownabbey, BT37 0QB.

Please ensure that the envelope is clearly marked Application to join final year without
placement.

If you post your application, please ensure that the correct postage is paid.

Your application to join the final year of your course without placement will be considered
by the Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Engineering. The above named staff will
coordinate the applications before forwarding to the Dean of the Faculty. The Placement
Tutor and Course Director for your course may be asked to comment on your application
before a final decision is made by the Dean.

Non submission OR unsuccessful application

If you do not submit an application or your application is unsuccessful, then you will not be
able to proceed to final year.
