Websprocket Deploys Worlds First Supranet

Transaction Server at ITEC-Ohio

Partnership Begins Testing Deployment of Supranet
Packets

Cleveland, OH May 8, 2001 Websprocket, a leader in Supranet Packet technology has
completed installation of the worlds first Supranet Transaction Server (STS) at ITEC-
Ohio, a leading test and evaluation center for Internet2 and next generation Internet
technologies. STS is built on Websprockets VMServer, the worlds first and only proxy
virtual machine code management database server for Java applications and modules.
The Websprocket ITEC-Ohio partnership conducted its first series of tests aimed at
building an infrastructure that will support the Supranet Packet specification and
Supranet-enabled devices for high bandwidth applications.
The initial test successfully demonstrated the worlds first transmission of a Supranet
Packet. Programs and library modules are authored in the Java programming language
then checked into an authorized database. Networked devices can request Supranet
services from STS. STS first authenticates the requesting device via a database profile,
then translates Java code modules to native instructions for the requesting device, and
formats them into Supranet packets. STS authenticates the requesting device then
distributes the Supranet Packets to the requesting device upon demand and inherently
thwarts the efforts of unauthorized users providing a highly secure mechanism to fulfill
the promise of the Internet.
The Supranet calls for a world of connected devices and many user interactions. We
have seen a plethora of attacks and viruses that threaten the advancement of such a
connected society, states Mark Medovich, CEO Websprocket. As millions of devices
are deployed, who will bear the burden of securing endless data? Furthermore, how
will businesses truly leverage the benefits of the Internet without managing software
code, not just data, to dynamically upgrade applications, perform diagnostics, and
initiate new services within a secure environment? We recognize these challenges and
see an opportunity to embark on a new era of computing. One that enables smart
networks where the code lives on the network, not machines, and is managed from
central locations in highly secure environments.
We are pleased to begin evaluating and testing the deployment of Supranet Packets on
the test bed of ITEC-Ohio, states Pankaj Shah, Managing Director ITEC-Ohio. We have
witnessed the successful first step to the fulfillment of smart, interoperable networks
through the deployment of Supranet Transaction Server. A technology first was
accomplished as a new set of instructions was dynamically transmitted across the
network, changing the behavior of the requesting computer. There was no need to take
down any part of the system and there was no interruption of service. Our testing will
continue and we anticipate further advancement of the next generation Internet through
our partnership with Websprocket, continued Shah.
About Websprocket:
Websprocket develops, markets, and supports, the worlds first Internet-age software
design automation platform enabling distributed management solutions for Supranet
Computing. The Supranet consists of networked computing devices, and information
and services spanning the corporate enterprise, being made available to business
partners, employees, and consumers upon demand. Such advances require
sophisticated software integration between network infrastructure, a vast array of
network devices and existing enterprise systems. Websprocket has leveraged the
widely accepted, enterprise interoperable programming platform known as the Java
programming language in delivering technology that simplifies network systems
development and management while enabling Supranet deployment. Recent news
releases and other information are located at Websprockets Internet home page at

About ITEC-Ohio:

One of the primary goals of ITEC-Ohio is to stimulate research and
development in advanced networking technologies, and support the
transfer of these technologies into products and services for the general
public. As a regional center for advanced communications and
engineering within the Internet2 community, the ITEC-Ohio consortium
takes advantage of the concentration of universities in the state that are
conducting research in Quality of Service, telemedicine, virtual
laboratories, remote shared resources, distance learning, digital libraries,
multi-media, and distributed computing. More information can be
