Boxing event
set to rumble
the night out
ARE you ready to Rumble?
Chipping Norton will host
its first ever glitzy and glam-
orous white collar boxing
night on June 6, 2015.
Rumble in the Cotswolds
will be held in Chipping Nor-
ton Town Hall and ten bouts
of boxing will feature brave
fighters ranging from local
heroes to celebrity fighters
(to be announced later) going
head to head, glove to glove.
Rumble in the Cotswolds
will be raising money for
Helen & Douglas House who
care for children and young
adults with life-shortening
conditions and support their
families, in the local area.
In order to get Chipping
Norton fighting fit, everyone
is invited to take part in the
boxing training.
Hatton Academy train-
ing will be delivered by Fit-
Beings Toby Goodchild at
Glyme Hall from 6.30am to
7.30am every Tuesday and
Thursday morning from Sep-
tember 4.

at weekend
WESTCOTES annual village
fete will be held on Saturday,
August 30, from 2pm to 6pm
with the famous bric-a-brac
marquee, folk band Hullabel-
loo, tea and cakes, barbecue,
Fun Dog Show (registration
at 2pm) including classes for
Best Sausage Catcher, Best
Trick and Dog Most Like Its
Owner.
Other attractions include
tombola, hoop-la, buzzer
game, ferret racing, Splat
the Rat and quoits. You can
guess the birthday of one of
Tom Stayts prize-winning
sheep or guess the weight of
the giant pumpkin.
Childrens sports will take
place during the afternoon
and the fete will end with the
traditional Church versus
Nether Westcote Tug-of-War.
Chance for children to travel
through time with newnovel
A LOCAL author is giving chil-
dren the exciting chance to set
sail alongside Admiral Nelson
in his latest book, Time Travel-
ling Toby and the Battle of Tra-
falgar.
The book, written by Graham
Jones, is the second instalment
of his Time Travelling Toby se-
ries, and is aimed at entertain-
ing young children but also edu-
cating them as well.
I love history, says Graham.
And I love passing that pas-
sion on to others the interac-
tion we have had with children
when we have taken the books
into schools and presented our
workshop at festivals has been
amazing.
Its a fun way of learning
about important historical
events. Children love playing
pretend, and whats more excit-
ing than pretending to travel in
time?
Graham, who lives in Winch-
combe with his wife Keston and
three children, has been delight-
ed with the response to Time
Travelling Toby.
As a father I knew that there
was a place for a different kind
of book, one that children would
enjoy but could also educate
about key historical events in
an entertaining way, he added.

Stars boundless in musical energy
MARIA Jagusz has a bound-
less store of musical energy
and on consecutive weekends
she has sung in A Little Night
Music in London, directed
a moving First World War
concert in Cirencester Par-
ish Church, and now Another
Opening, Another Show (Bing-
ham Hall, August 15/16).
A feature of MJ/UK con-
certs is their air of exuberant
professionalism and the latest
was no exception. The pace
was fast but never rushed and
each number was carefully
costumed and choreographed
with appropriate lighting
and musical accompaniment.
The show started with a ren-
dering of the concerts title
song from Kiss me Kate by the
whole cast. It ended with se-
lections from a new musical,
The Clockmakers Daughter.
In between there were love
songs, happy songs, sad songs,
poignant songs, comic songs
all performed with style and
conviction.
It it was nice to see the return
of Ben Maggs, Emily Apps
and Bianca Szyal, three MJ/
UK stars of yesteryear who
used the company to launch
them into the professional
music world yet came back to
make their substantial contri-
butions to this milestone in
the companys history.
There was perfect musical
accompaniment from pianist
Barrie Cooper joined on the
keyboard by Marias brother,
Chris. Special mention should
go to David Hudson, MJ/UKs
lighting man for many years.
This was Davids final bow
and he will be missed. Special
mention also to Michael Web-
born who apart from being
musical director, played key-
board and wrote the musical
The Clockmakers Daughter.
All contributed hugely to a
wonderful evening. But if it
wasnt for one person, none of
it would be happening. Maria,
congratulations.
