Big Pharma's Latest Ploy to Outlaw a Natural Cure for

Arthritis, Osteoporosis and Tooth ecay
[Editor's Note: We should all be grateful to ZS Livingstone for
bringing this important article to my attention. ZS read this in the
latest issue of Neus maga!ine and sent me an e"mail about it on
#une $%. & couldn't put it up right a'ay due to a computer failure and
the need for a replacement( but &'m glad to be able to post it today.
)ou 'ill understand my enthusiasm after you read the article. )ou 'ill
discover that one can safely ingest a small *uantity of +ora
dissolved in 'ater and supplement your body 'ith an ade*uate
amount of an organic ,absorbable- form of boron( 'hich 'ill both
prevent and overcome most forms of arthritis( osteoporosis ,bone
loss and the thinning of bone density-( and reverse the loosening(
falling out( and decay of teeth( especially in older people. &n addition
to helping the body .eep your calcium inside your bones 'here it
belongs( +ora supplementation can displace fluoride out of your
body ,'here it doesn't belong-. /ther advantages of organic boron
supplementation are eplained in the article....0en 1dachi2

3he +ora 4onspiracy: +ig 5harma's Latest 5loy to /utla' a Natural

)ou may not be able to imagine that +ora( this humble insecticide
and laundry detergent( has the potential of singlehandedly bringing
do'n our entire economic system. +ut you do not need to 'orry( the
danger has been recognised and the necessary steps are already
being ta.en to defuse the situation. & 'ill start 'ith the basics and you
'ill understand 'hat & mean as the story unfolds.
+ora is a naturally occurring and mined mineral salt and the
source of other manufactured boron compounds. 3he main deposits
are in 3ur.ey and 4alifornia. 4hemical names are $- sodium
tetraborate decahydrate( 8- disodium tetraborate decahydrate( or
simply <- sodium borate.
3his means it contains four atoms of boron as its central feature
combined 'ith t'o sodium atoms and ten molecules ,or sometimes
less- of crystallisation 'ater. 3herefore( bora is the sodium salt of
the 'ea. boric acid. +ecause sodium is more strongly al.aline( this
ma.es a solution of bora strongly al.aline 'ith a p; bet'een = and
$9 ,p; > is neutral-. When ingested( it reacts 'ith hydrochloric acid in
the stomach to form boric acid and sodium chloride ,table salt-. 3he
boron content of +ora is $$.<? 'hile for boric acid it is $>.%? or
about %9? higher. &ngested boron compounds are rapidly and nearly
completely ecreted 'ith the urine.
@ormerly( boric acid 'as 'idely used as a preservative in foods(
but is no' banned for this purpose in most countries( and is also
banned from public sale in 1ustralia.
1ccording to conventional medicine( it is not .no'n if boron is
essential for humans( but research sho's that 'e do need it. 3he
reason 'hy it 'as difficult to ans'er this *uestion is the presence of
boron in all plants and unprocessed foods. 6iets 'ith a fair amount of
fruit and vegetables provide about 8 to % mg of boron per day( but this
also depends on the region 'here the food 'as gro'n and ho' it
'as gro'n.
&n reality the average inta.e in developed countries is $"8 mg of
boron per day. &nstitutionali!ed patients may receive only 9.8% mg of
daily boron. 4hemical fertili!ers inhibit the upta.e of boron from the
soil: an organic apple gro'n in good soil may have 89 mg boron( but
if gro'n 'ith fertili!er it may have only $ mg of boron. @ertili!ers
combined 'ith poor food choices have greatly reduced our boron
inta.e compared to %9 or $99 years ago.
@urther( unhealthy coo.ing methods greatly reduce the availability
of boron from food. 3he coo.ing 'ater of vegetables containing most
of the minerals may be discarded during home coo.ing or commercial
processingA phytic acid in ba.ed goods( cereals and coo.ed legumes
may greatly reduce availability( 'hile gluten sensitivity and 4andida
overgro'th inhibit the absorption of minerals. 1ll this ma.es health
problems due to boron deficiency no' very common.
;ealth Effects of +oron
6ue to their content of boron( bora and boric acid have basically
the same health effects( 'ith good antiseptic( antifungal( and antiviral
properties( but only mild antibacterial action. &n plants as 'ell as
animals( boron is essential for the integrity and function of cell 'alls(
and the 'ay signals are transmitted across membranes.
+oron is distributed throughout the body 'ith the highest
concentration in the parathyroid glands( follo'ed by bones and dental
enamel. &t is essential for healthy bone and Boint function( regulating
the absorption and metabolism of calcium( magnesium and
phosphorus through its influence on the parathyroid glands. With this(
boron is for the parathyroids 'hat iodine is for the thyroid.
+oron deficiency causes the parathyroids to become overactive(
releasing too much parathyroid hormone 'hich raises the blood level
of calcium by releasing calcium from bones and teeth. 3his then
leads to osteoarthritis and other forms of arthritis( osteoporosis and
tooth decay. With advancing age( high blood levels of calcium lead to
calcification of soft tissues causing muscle contractions and stiffnessA
calcification of endocrine glands( especially the pineal gland and the
ovariesA arteriosclerosis( .idney stones( and calcification of the
.idneys ultimately leading to .idney failure. +oron deficiency
combined 'ith magnesium deficiency is especially damaging to the
bones and teeth.
+oron affects the metabolism of steroid hormones( and especially
of se hormones. &t increases lo' testosterone levels in men and
oestrogen levels in menopausal 'omen. &t also has a role in
converting vitamin 6 to its active form( thus increasing calcium upta.e
and deposition into bone and teeth rather than causing soft tissue to
calcify. 1lso other beneficial effects have been reported such as
improvement of heart problems( vision( psoriasis( balance( memory
and cognition.
3he Cerman cancer researcher 6r 5aul"Cerhard Seeger has
sho'n that cancer commonly starts 'ith the deterioration of cell
membranes. 1s boron is essential for cell membranes and boron
deficiency 'idespread( this may be an important cause for the
initiation of tumour gro'th. +oron compounds have anti"tumour
properties and are Dpotent anti"osteoporotic( anti"inflammatory(
hypolipemic( anti"coagulant and anti"neoplastic agentsD ,$-.
This overview shows the wide-ranging influence of boron on
our health. In the following I want to describe some of these
health effects in greater detail.
The Arthritis Cure of !ex Newnham
&n the $=79's( Ee Ne'nham( 5h.6.( 6./.( N.6( developed
arthritis. 1t that time he 'as a soil and plant scientist in 5erth(
Western 1ustralia. 4onventional drugs did not help( so he loo.ed for
the cause into the chemistry of plants. ;e reali!ed that plants in that
area 'ere rather mineral deficient. 0no'ing that boron aids calcium
metabolism in plants he decided to try it. ;e started ta.ing <9 mg of
bora a day( and in three 'ee.s all pain( s'elling and stiffness had
disappeared.
"e told pu#lic health and medical school authorities a#out his
disco$ery, #ut they were not interested% "owe$er, some people
with arthritis were delighted as they impro$ed% Others were
scared to ta&e something with a poison la#el on the container
and meant to &ill coc&roaches and ants% '$entually, he had
ta#lets made with a safe and effecti$e (uantity of #orax%
Within five years and only by word of mouth he sold 10,000 bottles
a month. He could no longer cope and asked a drug company to
market it. That was a major mistake. They indicated that this would
replace more epensive drugs and reduce their profits. !t so
happened that they had representatives on government health
committees and arranged that in 1"#1, $ustralia instituted a
regulation that declared boron and its compounds to be poisons in
any concentration. He was fined %1000 for selling a poison, and this
successfully stopped his arthritis cure from spreading in $ustralia. &'(
)u#se(uently he pu#lished se$eral scientific papers on #orax
and arthritis% One was a dou#le*#lind trial in the mid +,-.'s at
the !oyal /el#ourne "ospital which showed that 0.1 of those
who completed the trial were greatly impro$ed% Only +21
impro$ed when on place#o% There were no negati$e side*effects,
#ut some reported that their heart ailment had also impro$ed,
and there was #etter general health and less tiredness% 345
Fost of his later research 'as devoted to the relationship bet'een
soil boron levels and arthritis. ;e found( for instance that the
traditional sugarcane islands( due to long"term heavy use of
fertili!ers( have very lo' soil"boron levels. #amaica has the lo'est
level and arthritis rates are about >9?. ;e noted that even most dogs
'ere limping. Net comes Fauritius 'ith very lo' boron levels and
%9? arthritis. 3he daily boron inta.e in these countries is less than $
mg:day. 1n interesting comparison is bet'een &ndian and native
@iBians. 3he &ndians are estimated to have an arthritis rate of about
G9? and eat much rice gro'n 'ith fertili!er 'hile the native @iBians
'ith an estimated arthritis rate of $9? eat mainly starchy root
vegetables gro'n privately 'ithout fertili!er.
3he HS( England( 1ustralia and Ne' Zealand generally have
average soil"boron levels 'ith an estimated inta.e of $ to 8 mg of
boron and arthritis rates of about 89?. +ut 4arnarvon in Western
1ustralia has high boron levels in soil and 'ater( and the arthritis rate
is only $?. &t is similar in a place called Nga'ha Springs in Ne'
Zealand 'ith very high boron levels in the spa 'ater 'hich is curative
for arthritis. 1ctually all spas reputedly curing arthritis have very high
boron levels. 3hese are also high in &srael 'ith an estimated daily
boron inta.e of % to I mg and only 9.% " $? arthritis.
+one analysis sho'ed that arthritic Boints and nearby bones had
only half the boron content of healthy Boints. E*ually( synovial fluid
that lubricates Boints and provides nutrients to the cartilage is boron
deficient in arthritic Boints. 1fter boron supplementation( bones 'ere
much harder than normal and surgeons found them more difficult to
sa' through. With additional boron( bone fractures heal in about half
the normal time in both man and animal. ;orses and dogs 'ith
bro.en legs( or even a bro.en pelvis( have fully recovered.
+ora is also effective 'ith other forms of arthritis( such as
Eheumatoid 1rthritis( #uvenile 1rthritis( and Lupus ,Systemic Lupus
Erythematosus-. @or instance 6r Ne'nham sa' a young girl aged =
months 'ith Buvenile arthritis. ;e 'as able to cure her in 8 'ee.s.
;e 'rote that people can commonly get rid of their pain( s'elling
and stiffness in about $ to < months. 3hen they can reduce treatment
from < to $ boron tablet ,each < mg- per day as a maintenance dose
so that they can avoid any future arthritis. ;e also stated that patients
'ith rheumatoid arthritis commonly eperienced a ;erheimer
reaction [healing reaction2(and that this is al'ays a good prognostic
sign. 3hey must persevere and in another 8 or < 'ee.s the pain(
s'elling and stiffness 'ill be gone. ,G(%-
& found this statement not only interesting( but also surprising. 3he
;erheimer reaction is an early aggravation of symptoms 'ith
increased pain. &t is commonly due to toins released by .illed
4andida and mycoplasma. 3his is very common 'ith antimicrobial
therapy( and bora definitely is an eceptionally good and strong
fungicide. What surprises me( ho'ever( is that this fungicidal effect is
already present at this rather lo' dose of >% to =9 mg of bora.
E*ually surprising is the finding that also up to <9? of those 'ith
osteoarthritis eperienced a ;erheimer reaction( suggesting that the
border bet'een osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis is rather fluid. &
believe that in long"standing and especially resistant cases it 'ill be
advisable to use other antimicrobials in addition. @or co"factors in
arthritis treatment also see my article 1rthritis and Eheumatism or the
boo.let /JEE4/F&NC 1E3;E&3&S.
Osteoporosis and )ex "ormones
+oron deficiency causes greatly increased amounts of calcium and
magnesium to be lost 'ith the urine. 1 bora supplement 'ill reduce
the daily loss of calcium by nearly %9?. 1s this calcium comes mainly
from resorbed bone and teeth( boron deficiency may be the most
important factor in causing osteoporosis and tooth decay.
&t has been estimated that %%? of 1mericans over %9 have
osteoporosis and of these about I9? are 'omen. World'ide( $ in <
'omen and $ in $8 men over the age of %9 may have osteoporosis(
and this is responsible for millions of fractures each year. Eats 'ith
osteoporosis 'ere given a boron supplement for <9 days 'ith the
result that their bone *uality 'as no' comparable 'ith that of the
healthy control group and of a group supplemented 'ith oestradiol
,7-.
3he beneficial effect of bora on bones seems to be due to t'o
interrelated effects: a higher boron content of the bones 'hich ma.es
them harder( and a normalisation of se hormones 'hich stimulates
the gro'th of ne' bone. Lo' oestrogen levels after menopause are
thought to be the main reason 'hy so many older 'omen develop
osteoporosis. &n men( testosterone levels decline more gradually
'hich seems to be reflected in their later onset of osteoporosis as a
group.
Eesearch has no' sho'n that boron supplementation in
postmenopausal 'omen doubles the blood level of the most active
form of oestrogen( $>"beta oestradiol( to the level found in 'omen on
oestrogen replacement therapy. E*ually( the blood levels of
testosterone more than doubled ,>-. With ;E3 [hormone replacement
therapy2 there is a higher ris. of breast or endometrial cancer 'hich is
not .no'n to happen 'ith hormones produced by the body as 'ith
bora supplementation.
Some 'omen get premenstrual problems because oestrogen
levels are too high and progesterone too lo'( and therefore may be
afraid of using boron. ;o'ever( & found no evidence that boron raises
oestrogen above normal healthy levels. +oron may balance levels of
se hormones similar to the action of maca root powder. Faca acts
on the pituitary gland not only to increase( but also to balance our se
hormones and seems to stimulate our o'n progesterone production
as needed.
1 recent study in younger men ,8= " %9- sho'ed that the level of
free testosterone ,the form that matters most- had risen by one third
after a daily supplementation of about $99 mg of bora for one 'ee.
,I-. 3his is of special interest for bodybuilders.
4ontrary to the medical preference of chemically castrating men
'ith prostate cancer( research 'ith boron has sho'n that elevated
testosterone levels are beneficial by shrin.ing prostate tumours and
5S1 levels( 5S1 [prostate specific antigen2 being a mar.er for
tumours and inflammation in the prostate. 1lso( significantly improved
memory and cognition in elderly individuals may be partly due to
increased levels of se hormones and partly to improved membrane
functions of brain cells ,=-.
& have been as.ed about boron supplementation for 'omen 'ith
oestrogen"sensitive breast cancer. +reast cancer is related to
calcifications in the breast. &n my opinion( it is more important to
normali!e the calcium"magnesium metabolism and cellular
membrane functions rather than feel restricted by a possibly faulty
medical concept( especially as & believe that cancer can usually be
controlled 'ith long"term antimicrobial therapy. 3herefore & 'ould use
boron as 'ell as maca in this case.
6ungi and 6luoride
Being such an excellent fungicide, it is not
surprising that #orax is #eing successfully used

/ther enthusiastic posts 'ere about vaginal thrush [candida2.
+ora appeared to be more effective than other remedies.
4ommonly( one large gelatine capsule filled 'ith bora or boric acid
'as inserted at bedtime for several nights or up to 8 'ee.s.
1lternatively the po'der can be mied 'ith cool solidified coconut oil
as a bolus or suppository.
1 recent scientific study ,$$- confirms these positive observations
'ith vaginal thrush. +oric acid at the dose of a filled capsule 'or.ed
even in cases of drug"resistant 4andida and against all the tested
pathogenic bacteria. +ecause of the greater dilution( a douche may
not be strong enough for bacteria and drug"resistant 4andida( but it
should 'or. for normal 4andida. +ora( due to its al.alinity( 'as more
effective than boric acid.
!n normal healthy conditions, )andida eists as harmless oval
yeast cells. When challenged, chains of elongated cells called
pseudohyphae develop, and finally strongly invasive long, narrow
and tube*like filaments called hyphae. These damage the intestinal
wall, and cause inflammation and +eaky ,ut -yndrome.
5seudohyphae and hyphae can be seen in the blood of individuals
'ith cancer and autoimmune diseases. 4andida can also form tough
layers of biofilm. 3his same study sho's that boric acid:bora inhibits
the formation of biofilms and also the transformation of harmless
yeast cells into invasive hyphal form. &n other articles( & have sho'n
that this process( commonly initiated by antibiotics( is a basic cause
of most of our modern diseases( and this ma.es bora and boric acid
primary health remedies. +ut this article sho's that there are many
more reasons to give them a top rating.
1 scientific revie' in 89$$ concluded: D... boric acid is a safe(

1nother study from 3ur.ey ,$<- sho's the protective effect of boric

been used as a food preservative.
+ora( similar to the e*ually endangered Lugol's iodine solution(
can also be used to remove accumulated fluoride and heavy metals
from the body ,$G-. @luoride not only causes bones to deteriorate( but
also the pineal gland to calcify and the thyroid to become
underactive. +ora reacts 'ith fluoride ions to form boron fluorides
'hich are then ecreted in the urine.

Calcium*/agnesium /eta#olism
3here is antagonism as 'ell as cooperation bet'een calcium and
magnesium. 1bout half of the total body magnesium is found in bones
and the other half inside the cells of tissues and organs. /nly $? is in
the blood. 3he .idneys try to .eep this level constant by ecreting
more or less 'ith the urine.
&n contrast( ==? of calcium is in bones( and the rest in the fluid
outside of cells. Fuscles contract 'hen calcium moves into the cells(
and they rela 'hen calcium is again pumped out and magnesium
moves in. 3his cellular pump re*uires much energy to pump calcium
out( and if cells are lo' in energy( then calcium may accumulate
inside cells. Lo' cellular energy may be due to 4andida( faulty sugar
or fat metabolism( deficiencies( or accumulating metabolic 'astes
and toins.
3his then leads to only partial relaation of the muscles 'ith
stiffness( a tendency to cramps( and poor blood and lymph
circulation. 3he problem gets 'orse the more calcium moves from
bones into soft tissue. Nerve cells can also accumulate calcium(
leading to faulty nerve transmission. &n the eye lens( it causes
cataracts. ;ormonal output .eeps reducing as endocrine glands
increasingly calcify and all other cells become handicapped in their
normal functions. &n addition( it causes intracellular magnesium
deficiency. Fagnesium is needed to activate countless en!ymes( and
a deficiency leads to inefficient and bloc.ed energy production.
1 further problem is that ecess calcium damages the cell
membrane and ma.es it difficult for nutrients to move in and 'astes
to move out. When the intracellular calcium level gets too high( the
cell 'ill die.
;ere 'e can see the importance of boron as a regulator of cell
membrane functions( especially in regard to movements of calcium
and magnesium. With boron deficiency( too much calcium moves into
the cell 'hile magnesium cannot move inside to displace it. 3his is
the condition of old age and of the boron"deficiency diseases leading
up to it.
While in good health and especially in younger years( a calcium "
magnesium ratio of 8 : $ is normal and beneficial and supplied 'ith a
good diet. +ut 'ith increasing age( boron deficiency and resulting
disease conditions( 'e need progressively less calcium and more
magnesium.
@or boron to be fully effective in reversing tissue calcification(
ample magnesium is re*uired. @or elderly individuals( & recommend
G99 to 799 mg of magnesium together 'ith the daily bora
supplementation spaced out during the day( and 'ith protracted Boint
problems additional trans"dermal magnesium. ;o'ever( oral
magnesium may need to be adBusted according to its laative effect. &
am doubtful 'hether calcium supplements are needed and beneficial(
even in case of osteoporosis. &n my vie' these individuals have
plenty of calcium stored in soft tissues 'here it does not belong( and
supplementing boron and magnesium is epected to redeposit this
misplaced calcium into bones. & regard the medical focus on a high
calcium inta.e as a prescription for accelerated aging.

Possi#le )ide*'ffects
While side"effects from pharmaceutical drugs tend to be negative

;o'ever( 'ith long"standing severe calcifications a large amount
of calcium cannot be redistributed in a short time. 3his leads to
increased calcium levels in the affected area( especially the hips and
shoulders( and can cause problems for a considerable time( such as
a tendency to severe cramping and pain( or problems 'ith the blood

feet may be numbness( or reduced sensitivity or feeling in the s.in.

demonstrated effects on fertility and testes. Studies 'ith boric acid in

effects on the fetus( including fetal 'eight loss and minor s.eletal
variations. 3he doses administered 'ere many times in ecess of
those to 'hich humans 'ould normally be eposed. No evidence of

Here you see that table salt is 50 to 1006 more toic than bora.
3able salt changes the genetic material and is mutagenic( 'hile bora
is harmless in this regard. &nfants are most at ris. from high bora
ingestion. &t has been estimated that % to $9 grams can cause severe
vomiting( diarrhoea( shoc. and even death( but it also says that lethal
doses are not 'ell documented in the literature.

1nimal studies have identified reproductive toicity as the most
sensitive effects of boron ingestion. Eposure of rats( mice( and dogs

;uman studies of the possible association bet'een impaired

production 'or.ers as compared to the H.S. national average.
1ll this is important because possible reproductive toicity is the
official reason for the present assault on bora. 3he sodium chloride
FS6S mentioned above also states: DWhile sodium chloride has
been used as a negative control in some reproductive studies( it has
also been used as an eample that almost any chemical can cause
birth defects in eperimental animals if studied under the right
conditions.D 0eep this in mind 'hen you read the follo'ing.
The Assault on Borax
1rthritis in its various forms and its close relative osteoporosis
affect about <9? of the population in developed countries.
/steoporosis is responsible for more long term hospital care than any
other individual disease. 3his is due to the very high incidence of
fractures( and especially the protracted nature of hip fractures. 3his is
a main source of income for the medical"pharmaceutical system. &f
the boron"magnesium cure for these diseases should become 'idely
.no'n( this vital income stream 'ould dry up and the system
collapse. 1s this is the biggest and most profitable industry in the
'orld( this cannot be allo'ed to happen.
When 6r Ne'nham discovered the boron"arthritis cure( it 'as not
a big problem for the pharmaceuticals because ne's travelled slo'ly
and 'as easily suppressed. 3his is very different no' 'ith &nternet
communication. Fost research funding comes from the
pharmaceutical industry( and nothing has come for'ard to duplicate
6r Ne'nham's findings and other positive osteoporosis studies.
&nstead( funding goes into the development of patentable boron drugs
for limited application as in chemotherapy( or even to discredit boron.
1 test"tube eperiment found that a relatively lo' dose of about G
grams of bora can damage lymphocytes( Bust li.e an earlier test"tube
study sho'ed that vitamin 4 supplements are toic. Fost positive
bora studies no' come from 4hina( #apan and 3ur.ey.
@urthermore( 5ubFed is a publicly funded search facility for bio"
medical research publications. While other articles for Ne'nham E.E.
and Zhou L.). are still listed( the t'o important bora publications
mentioned earlier " about the arthritis trial at the Eoyal Felbourne
;ospital and the treatment of s.eletal fluorosis in 4hina " are no
longer listed( but they belong there and obviously had been there
originally. & suspect that they have been deliberately removed to
prevent them from being *uoted in other research.
&n addition( increasing effort goes into publicly demoni!ing bora
for its alleged reproductive and infant toicity. 1s an eample( &
recently read an article by a 'senior scientist' of the supposedly
'green' Environmental Wor.ing Croup. &n it( the perceived dangers of
bora 'ere so eaggerated that most comments in effect said:
D3han. you for opening my eyes. & did not .no' ho' poisonous and
dangerous bora is( & certainly 'ill not use it anymore in my laundry(
or for cleaning my toilet and .itchenD .
3his is obviously a deliberate campaign to ma.e people grateful for
banning bora from public sale. @or laundry and cleaning purposes
+ora Substitute no' replaces the product previously sold as +ora.
3he EH has spearheaded this campaign. &n #une 89$9( bora and
boric acid 'ere reclassified as MEeprotoic 4ategory 8M( suggesting
that they may be harmful to the reproductive functions of humans in
high doses( and the product pac.age must display the s.ull and
crossbones symbol. @rom 6ecember 89$9( these products 'ere no
longer available for public sale 'ithin the EH. While this classification
no' applies for all of Europe( non"EH countries still have some
lee'ay in regard to public sales. 3his initiative is part of a Clobally
;armoni!ed System of 4lassification and Labelling of 4hemicals
,C;S- 'hich is to be implemented as soon as possible. 1ustralia is
'ell"advanced on preparing regulations to implement the C;S for
industrial chemicals( 'ith ne' regulations epected in 89$8 ,8$-.
3he European 4hemicals 1gency gave as reason for their
reclassification of boron products ,paraphrased-:
'3he available data do not indicate maBor differences bet'een
laboratory animals and humans( therefore it must be assumed that
the effects seen in animals could occur in humans as epidemiological
studies in humans are insufficient to demonstrate the absence of an
adverse effect of inorganic borates on fertility. $>.% mg boron:.g:day
'as derived as a N/1EL ,no event level- for male and female fertility.
@or the rat decreased foetal 'eight occurred at $<.> mg
boron:.g:day( and a safe limit of =.7 mg:.g:day has been derived.'
,88-
What they are really saying is this: 'While 'e have no human data(
animal studies suggest that for adult reproductive functions a daily
ingestion of about 8 teaspoons of bora is safe. +ut to be absolutely
sure that no"one is harmed( 'e 'ill ban it totally.' &mportantly( this
ruling is not related to bora in foods or supplements 'here it is
already banned( but only for general use as in laundry or cleaning
products or as insecticides. +ecause bora is not readily inhaled or
absorbed through intact s.in( it is difficult to see ho' even a fe'
milligrams daily could get into the body 'ith the conventional use. &f
the same standard 'ould apply to other chemicals( there 'ould be
none left.
3he .ey study in this assessment 'as published in $=>8. Why is
this being dug up no' to Bustify banning bora 'hen it 'as of no
concern for the past G9 yearsL &t does not ma.e any scientific sense(
especially if you consider that the main chemical in the ne' bora
substitute( sodium percarbonate( is about three times more toic than
bora. 1cute oral L6%9 values for animals are from $9<G to 8899
mg:.g:day ,8<-. Even the commonly used sodium bicarbonate( 'ith
an animal L6%9 of <<79 mg:.g( is nearly t'ice as toic as bora ,8G-.
+oth of these chemicals have not been tested for long"term
reproductive toicity at the high doses that caused fertility problems in
rats and mice.
3he same applies to 'ashing po'ders [laundry detergents2( it has
been stated that no toicity is epected if used in the approved 'ay(
or that reproductive tests have not been done. &ngredients in these
products are more toic than bora( 'hy can they be used in the
approved 'ay but not boraL 1nd ho' about really toic items such
as caustic soda and hydrochloric acidL Why do they remain available
to the public 'hen one of the safest household chemicals is banned
despite the fact that it is absolutely impossible to cause any
reproductive harm 'ith the approved useL
Eegardless of the lac. of any scientific credibility( the stage has
been set for bora and boric acid to be globally removed from public
sale at short or no notice. Even lo'"level and less effective boron
tablets are no' tightly controlled by the pharmaceutical industry( and
may be restricted at any time through 4ode 1limentarius regulations.
With this( the medical"pharmaceutical system has safely defused any
potential danger that bora may have posed to its profitability and
survival.
