This document discusses poverty and efforts to combat it on multiple levels. It begins by calling on readers to join the war on poverty, hunger, and homelessness. It then discusses different types and aspects of poverty, including homelessness in major US cities, economic inequality in the US compared to other places, and worldwide poverty especially in parts of Africa and Central/South America. The document provides various links to charitable organizations working to address poverty through initiatives like programs for street kids, building homes for the needy, sponsoring children, and medical missions. It emphasizes the large scale of poverty and the need for continued prayer and practical work to fight it.

WE NEED YOU to JOIN the WAR ON POVERTY, HUNGER, & HOMELESSNESS

Labels: africa, inequality, poverty, world bank WELCOME ! & DISCLAIMERS. WE DO NOT ACCEPT DONATIONS PLEASE HELP END POVERTY !
WELCOME !
MOST of us LIVING in big cities, especially cities with year-round mild weather such as southern California have been approached by pan-handlers, 3
almost daily, asking for money. That is homeless problem, among other things (drug addiction, etc) . There are many reasons for this problem and it is included in poverty, BUT this is NOT my main concern when 4
I talk about the WAR on POVERTY.
The homeless problem in the USA has other roots which need to be addressed accordingly, and simply handing out a dollar bill here and there doesn't solve 5
the problem, and may in fact help perpetuate it, because it's simply a temporary "band- aid"...it may buy a bottle of booze to give a short-lived illusion of well- being.
6
Then there is economic inequality and families living in relative poverty here in the USA, which compared to some other parts of the world would not seem like poverty, but when compared to 7
Beverly Hills seems like hardship.
Don't get me wrong. There are some serious cases of poverty in the United States, and these need to be addressed as well, along with unfair 8
income inequality. The key word is "unfair", because NOT all income inequality is unfair. Some is, some isn't.
Finally, which is MY MAIN CONCERN at the moment for this blog, there is 9
worldwide poverty, especially in what we call sometimes call "third-world" countries. This includes parts of central & south America, as well as Africa, among various other places.
10
Often the images that come to mind, and rightly so, are countries in Africa, and for some reason that's where MY HEART lies as well, and so you will probably find me mentioning Africa 11
and posting links more about Africa than other areas of the world.
And again, almost anywhere there is extreme poverty you also find extreme wealth, just to let you know I am not making 12
sweeping generalizations of an entire continent, and that I have traveled to some of the parts to which I make reference.
Nonetheless, I will be posting more here gradually about all types of 13
poverty, near and far, "domestic" and "international". It may take some time for this blog to take shape, so if you don't find it meaningful now, please check back again later to see what's new. 14
And one of my emphasis is trying to follow the way of Jesus. Yes, I am a Christian and have a theological perspective as such. And in general Jesus healed & helped 15
those who wanted to be healed & helped . They first needed the "desire" or "faith" (ie "your faith has made you well" ).
Likewise, I think we should primarily endeavor to help 16
people who not only want to be helped but want to become somewhat self- sustaining as well, and hopefully eventually help others in return (ie "pay it forward" . That's not to say any of us can ever 17
"become an island". We are all inter- dependent to a certain extent. That's how society works.
And so the goal is to help persons become part of a healthy society, 18
thus, fighting poverty is not always about single individuals but sometimes about large groups.
And it is a HUGE issue, of course, depending on the place, the politics, 19
the wars, the religion(s), etc. And I will not try to write a comprehensive essay here on one welcome page, but am simply trying to give you my initial goal and perspective 20
for this blog. And I hope to learn and grow myself by creating this blog.
For now, to begin being a "soldier" in the war on poverty, if you are a praying person, please start by praying in general or 21
specifically for an impoverished part of the world. Or if you are advanced in knowledge & awareness & practical ways to combat poverty, keep up the good work. Thank you, and God bless you.
22
-vk-
p.s. Any links to other articles or websites about poverty are NOT intended to indicate a full-fledged endorsement of the thoughts & 23
opinions, etc. And I do not always know if their data or statistics are completely accurate. And if they are asking for donations, I am not necessarily sure if they are trustworthy or not, or whether 24
they are frugal or not. They may or may not be.
Some organizations use donations more prudently than others. If you do make donations try to find out how much of the money 25
is "administrative" versus that which is applied to actual short-term or long- term solutions.
IN essence, I am making reference to articles & websites that, in general, seem to indicate a 26
sincere concern about the problem of poverty. You must navigate "at your own risk" with your own personal discretion and be a critical thinker in the process.

see program at http://join-the-war-on- poverty.blogspot.com/2014/08/re-82014-war-on- poverty-conference.html see video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_9hytoySE0 Gray Davis (former California governor) was the first speaker at the War on Poverty Conference at the California 29
Science Center in Los Angeles. It was a jam-packed day, with numerous speakers from various agencies . Also speaking was Connie Rice, cousin of Condoleeza Rice. Connie, however, is on the other side of the fence, politically speaking, than Condoleeza. She is very liberal & democrat; and she is very feisty, albeit she acknolwedges she had to stop fighting so much (in court) and begin to work with the then-corrupt LAPD in order to make some progress with them. She made some good points albeit I think there may be some anger towards the male species in her, and maybe some other issues that she needs to work thru, including speaking a bit TOO long ...the MC Carl Morehouse eventually had to remind her it was time to wrap things up, but then she went on for another 15 or more minutes, knocking everybody off schedule. There's way too many names and 30
organizations to mention in this small box, but I will try to link to their program later.

elsewhere he says at one point, "The poor you will always
have with you,
but you will not always
have me..." (Matt 26.11)
J esus IS plenty concerned about
the poor, and there are plenty of verses
supporting His concern, but it seems that
102
there is a tone of inevitability that there
will ALWAYS be poor, and while helping
them overcome their predicament, we
MUST also, and most importantly, make
sure they know the Good News before
they die. Thus we help them with food &

water, etc, & education

Inequality Remain Persistently High" http://www.worldbank.org/en/news/press-release/2013/10/07/africa-continues-grow-strongly- poverty-inequality-persistently-high Posted by THEOLOGICAL at 2:56 PM No comments: Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare to FacebookShare to Pinterest Labels: africa, inequality, poverty, world bank WELCOME ! & DISCLAIMERS. WE DO NOT ACCEPT DONATIONS PLEASE HELP END POVERTY !
WELCOME !
MOST of us LIVING in big cities, especially cities with year-round 120
mild weather such as southern California have been approached by pan-handlers, almost daily, asking for money. That is homeless problem, among other things (drug addiction, etc) . There are many 121
reasons for this problem and it is included in poverty, BUT this is NOT my main concern when I talk about the WAR on POVERTY.
The homeless problem in the USA has other roots which need to be 122
addressed accordingly, and simply handing out a dollar bill here and there doesn't solve the problem, and may in fact help perpetuate it, because it's simply a temporary "band- aid"...it may buy a 123
bottle of booze to give a short-lived illusion of well- being.
Then there is economic inequality and families living in relative poverty here in the USA, which compared to some other parts of 124
the world would not seem like poverty, but when compared to Beverly Hills seems like hardship.
Don't get me wrong. There are some serious cases of poverty in the 125
United States, and these need to be addressed as well, along with unfair income inequality. The key word is "unfair", because NOT all income inequality is unfair. Some is, some isn't.
126
Finally, which is MY MAIN CONCERN at the moment for this blog, there is worldwide poverty, especially in what we call sometimes call "third-world" countries. This includes parts of central & south 127
America, as well as Africa, among various other places.
Often the images that come to mind, and rightly so, are countries in Africa, and for some reason that's where MY 128
HEART lies as well, and so you will probably find me mentioning Africa and posting links more about Africa than other areas of the world.
And again, almost anywhere there is extreme poverty 129
you also find extreme wealth, just to let you know I am not making sweeping generalizations of an entire continent, and that I have traveled to some of the parts to which I make reference.
130
Nonetheless, I will be posting more here gradually about all types of poverty, near and far, "domestic" and "international". It may take some time for this blog to take shape, so if you don't find it 131
meaningful now, please check back again later to see what's new.
And one of my emphasis is trying to follow the way of Jesus. Yes, I am a Christian and have a theological 132
perspective as such. And in general Jesus healed & helped those who wanted to be healed & helped . They first needed the "desire" or "faith" (ie "your faith has made you well" ). 133
Likewise, I think we should primarily endeavor to help people who not only want to be helped but want to become somewhat self- sustaining as well, and hopefully eventually help 134
others in return (ie "pay it forward" . That's not to say any of us can ever "become an island". We are all inter- dependent to a certain extent. That's how society works. 135
And so the goal is to help persons become part of a healthy society, thus, fighting poverty is not always about single individuals but sometimes about large groups. 136
And it is a HUGE issue, of course, depending on the place, the politics, the wars, the religion(s), etc. And I will not try to write a comprehensive essay here on one welcome page, but 137
am simply trying to give you my initial goal and perspective for this blog. And I hope to learn and grow myself by creating this blog.
For now, to begin being a "soldier" in the war on poverty, 138
if you are a praying person, please start by praying in general or specifically for an impoverished part of the world. Or if you are advanced in knowledge & awareness & practical ways to 139
combat poverty, keep up the good work. Thank you, and God bless you.
-vk-
p.s. Any links to other articles or websites about poverty 140
are NOT intended to indicate a full-fledged endorsement of the thoughts & opinions, etc. And I do not always know if their data or statistics are completely accurate. And if 141
they are asking for donations, I am not necessarily sure if they are trustworthy or not, or whether they are frugal or not. They may or may not be.
Some organizations use donations more 142
prudently than others. If you do make donations try to find out how much of the money is "administrative" versus that which is applied to actual short-term or long- term solutions. 143
IN essence, I am making reference to articles & websites that, in general, seem to indicate a sincere concern about the problem of poverty. You must navigate "at your own risk" with 144
your own personal discretion and be a critical thinker in the process.
