Specifics: The seminar-workshop aimed to develop an increased awareness and understanding of the most critical issues and concerns affecting LGBTs, particularly those in the schools. Moreover, it is designed to enhance skills in promoting an LGBT-friendly school environment. Hence, it calls for concrete initiatives on how to make the Campus LGBT-inclusive particularly in terms of policies and programs. The seminar centered on the discussions of the following topics: a. The concepts of LGBT and sexual orientation b. Sexual identity development c. Issues on homosexuality d. Whether or not Philippines is really LGBT-friendly The workshop proper highlighted program proposals re: making the Campus LGBT-Inclusive
Recommendations: With the organization of LGBT in the Campus, efforts such as review of policies and conceptualization of programs that are gender sensitive and LGBT inclusive are warranted. The Guidance and Counseling Center in coordination with the GAD Office of the Campus may consider the integration of the following gender-related activities in their respective action plans:
a. Establish a base line data through research on the following: Level of awareness of the campus as to the existence of LGBT community Level of tolerance and acceptance of the campus to LGBTs Need assessment of LGBTs b. Design programs based on the research data specifically on: Conduct of Growth Sessions re: issues and concerns of LGBTs Integrate topics on LGBT in the GAD program
c. Develop gender-related modules that highlight topics on respect, self- awareness and acceptance or establishing support groups such as heterosexual alliance.
