STUDENT BIRYANI THE NAME OF
QUALITY
Here starts the story of a long 40 years of hardship and
passion. The concept of creating Caf Students was given birth by Haji Mohammad Ali
(Late) in 1969 with very humble beginnings. It all started from home cooked Biryani and a
few other dishes served from a small canteen located in the middle of the city, Saddar,
Karachi. It is that popular taste of Biryani which dominated the business name of Caf
Students, and now Student Biryani is the title of fame. Basically Haij sahib started his
business by targeting the students of surroundings and their idea worked well, their first
costumer were the students and then the teachers of the surrounding schools. In those days
the students with low pocket money never thought of eating Biryani outside their homes.
\ But for the students of the late 60s and the early 70s
studying in schools in Saddar, the real blessing came in the shape of Caf Student,orn on
October 3, 1969. The biryani was priced at one rupee and 50 paisas initially, says manager
Gulrez Ahmed, but we also offered 25 per cent discount to students. Caf Students
successful story began when its founder Haji Muhammad Ali started selling BIRYANI from
a rerhi parked at Katrak Road. It was mainly meant to serve the students of the surrounding
schools like St Josephs, Patricks, St.Paul's and various Government School. To attract the
student of near areas it was an economical food for the market. The BIRYANI was an
immediate hit.
After few 2 years they converted their Rehri to a small caf. It
was a small Dhaaba with a bamboo roof supported by wooden pillars with waiting staff
comprised of two elder sons serving with limited seating capacity. It started with one tumbler
(Deg) of Biryani serving about 40 people per day.
Patience and hard work of Haji Mohammad Ali (late) resulted
in a stable and slow increase in the business. In responding to market demands resulted in
various goal achievements. In 1976, the first infrastructural improvement was made by
constructing a seating capacity of a hundred people. Afterwards, there was a series of
courageous business decisions taking into account various market needs spanning from
business development, beating competition, making use of technological improvements,
development of management systems, creating a market position, to ensuring a dominating
presence within this competitive world.

Business expansion
With the passage of time they are expanding their business
throughout the whole Karachi. They have opened their branches in many areas like; I.I.
Chundrigar, Shahra-e- Faisal nursery, University of Road Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Sh-e-Faisal
Nursery, Defence Branch, North Karachi Branch. Not only in Pakistan but they have
expanded their business international markets. They are having their branches in Dubai,
Sharjah also running successfully.

Current scenario
The student Biryani is the name of quality and the continuous hard
work of Haji Mohammad Ali (Late) currently the business is operated by his son Muhammad
Arif. The web of student biryani is spread over 26 outlets 12 branches and 14 franchises in
Karachi, Hyderabad, Lahore and Dubai. In an interview to Dawn news Mr. Muhammad Arif
said that my father always believed that there is no better market for business than Pakistan.
He further added that they have a centrally controlled supply chain management system
which ensures the quality of raw material purchased to make sure that the taste is maintained.
The recipe of Biryani is still secret that how Mr. Ali cooks it in home and thats the reason of
success of student biryani.
