Science

and nature of science as a
human endeavor
encompassing the
contributions of diverse
cultures, scientists, and
careers.

WVDE SC.O.4.1.2
- study the lives and
discoveries of scientists of
different cultures and
backgrounds.
These standards will fit in and link straight to the unit I will teach. As I
teach a lesson based on the different scientist who made great
contributions to science I will introduce these three Hispanic scientist
and briefly talk about their accomplishments. As we start a new
lesson in science, I believe it is appropriate to see how scientist of a
diverse culture have made significant careers and made a difference
in science.
I am a Culturally Competent Teacher
My image of Hispanic Scientist will directly tie into my lesson
of introducing culturally diverse scientist. My bulletin board of
the three Hispanic Scientist will but put up inside the
classroom right before we start our new science lesson of
learning about scientist. I will put this up to get students,
especially my underrepresented group of Hispanic Students. I
will put this up and have the students talk about what they
think about the bulletin board. This should make the Hispanic
students feel proud of their heritage and what their ancestors
have done for the face of science. These scientist that will be
up on the bulletin board will also serve as older role models,
not only to all the students in the classroom, but especially to
my Hispanic students.
