This document outlines the course objectives, practical experiments, and textbooks for the course ARC211: Architectural Design-III. The course focuses on developing design process and solutions for community buildings like hotels and museums with limited spatial parameters. Students will analyze case studies and work on studio projects to design two different building types in different contexts. The practical experiments include database research, analysis of design issues and resolution, and developing design sketches and drawings for educational/healthcare buildings like schools and clinics. The overall goal is to help students evolve their own design process.

Course Objectives: To understand the inter-relationship of various parameters through design process, gather data, analyze, synthesize and apply to develop a design solution. To explore design solution with limited spatial parameters The primary objective of a design studio is to inculcate in a student the attitude of evolving a design process for herself/himself List of Practicals / Experiments Community building [Hotel, Motel, Recreation Club, Museum etc] :Database for the studies. : Parameters of design, Anthropometric & space standards., Analysis, inferences, comparison of various cases, Design issues, response to the site, building controls etc Community building[Hotel, Motel, Recreation Club, Museum etc] : Design resolution : Studio projects shall be structured to deal with two (or more) distinctly different contexts with programme being identical. Studio could be divided into two groups with different sites and resulting solutions shall be discussed in the class to highlight the various differences, which can be attributed to the contextual reasons., Initiation of the design sketch, Concepts of space and form and their perception, Resolution of the design scheme Educational and healthcare building [Kindergarten,School,Nursing, polyclinic etc.] : Analysis of design issues : Issues related to the understanding of elements of design, activities and spatial corelation, Dialogue with case examples, Analysis, inferences, comparison of various cases, Responses to site, setting and the context Educational and healthcare building [ Kindergarten,School,Nursing, polyclinic etc.] : Design resolution : In the second project, context with a number of constraints shall be chosen and the process of enhancing the context, in other words,Place Making shall be investigated. Studio shall attempt to define the nature of relation between built and un built spaces and the need of using un built spaces for programmatic needs shall be highlighted., Initiation of the design sketch, Interpretation of site information as a decision-making aid., Develop language of expression., Inter-relationship between existing site features and proposed. form" Educational and Healthcare buildings [Kindergarten,School,Nursing, polyclinic etc.] : Design synthesis : Expressional skills in the design scheme [Physical model], Expressional skills in the design scheme [Drawing set], Integration of design journey from perception to realm Text Books: 1.
