Introduction and Citation:
This report covers the period from Sat 30-8-2014 until Fri 5-9-2014. However, it is worth point-
ing out the following:
1. Fatalities of the regime, the Army of National Defense (Shabiha), Lebanese Hizbullah, Iraqi and
Iranian Militias are not included in the reported death toll.
2. These fgures are not fnal in any way, and they are subject to continuous and periodic scrutiny
by centers activists, the data base administrators and the feld documentation team.
3. Figures may differ between reports, even within the same district, and this can be referred to the
territorial audit that would reveal places of errors and faults, as well as the continuous follow up to
identify undistinguished martyrs whenever they are identifed.
Martyrs of the Week:
During this period, the Violation Documentation Center in Syria managed to document (440) martyrs
in all the Syrian governorates, (420) of whom were documented by names, while (20) i.e.(5 %) of the
total number, were unidentifed bodies because they had turned into carnages.
one of them documented by video and (19) were documented only by witnessing.

First: the Distribution of Martyrs according to Governorates
Idlib governorate witnessed the fall of the largest number of martyrs, as the total number was
(86 martyrs) i.e. (19.5 %), followed by Damascus Suburbs (67 martyrs) i.e. (15.5 %), then Homs
(63 martyrs) followed by Hama (56 martyrs).

Second: the Distribution of Martyrs according to Death Causes
(141) martyrs i.e. (32 %) died as a result of fre shots and sniper bullets, whereas (175) of them
i.e. (40 %) died because of air shelling and barrel bombs. Moreover, (71) martyrs i.e. (16.5 %) killed
because of artillery shelling and mortar shelling.
VDC has also documented (31) detainees under torture in detention centers around Syria.

Third: the Distribution of Martyrs according to the Days of the Week
Sunday 31th August 2014 witnessed the fall of the largest number of martyrs, when (110) of them
fell i.e. (25 %) of the total number. After that, Monday 1 September 2014 witnessed the fall of (86)
martyrs i.e. (15.5%).
Fourth: the Distribution of Martyrs according to Gender
The number of male adult martyrs is (310 martyrs), i.e. (70 %) of the total number, the number of
male children is (53 children), i.e. (12 %), the number of adult females is (52 martyrs), i.e. (12%), the
number of female children is (25 martyrs) i.e. (6%).

Fifth: the Distribution of Martyrs according to the Category (Civilian/ Noncivilian)
(297) civilian martyrs were reported i.e. (67 %) of the total number of martyrs, while only (143) fght-
ers fell i.e. (33 %) including (2) children under 18.

Sixth: Other
The Violations Documentation Center has documented during this period the killing of (10) martyrs at
the hands of the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS/Daash) including (7) civilians, and three fghters
of the Free Syrian Army and other fghting factions.
