2 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins

in which you once walked, following
the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now
at work in the sons of disobedience

among whom we all once lived in the passions of
our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body

and the mind, and were by
nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

God, being rich in mercy,
because of the great love with which he loved us,

even when we were dead in our
trespasses, made us alive together with Christby grace you have been saved

and
raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

so
that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness
toward us in Christ Jesus.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this
is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
9
not a result of works, so that no one may
boast.
10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God
prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Discovering the Word
Read Eph 2:1-3. What do you think of when you read these verses? Summarize this
passage in your own words.
What happens in verses 4-7 for the believer in Jesus Christ?
Ephesians 2: 8-9 is a very well known passage. What major point is Paul trying to
make? How important do you think his main point is?

Applying the Word
Sometimes its easier to appreciate something when you realize what life would be like
without it. How can Pauls words help us appreciate the life we have in Jesus now and
in the future?
At one time or another we all can struggle with earning our salvation (which Paul says
is impossible to do). How have you been tempted to try and earn Gods favor, even
though its been freely given to you as a gift?
How do you lives would change if people in your school began believing verse 10.
How would our youth group change? How would you change?
Responding in Prayer: As a group take a minute to ask for prayer requests. Spend time
closing prayer!whichever way you all decide to pray is fine.
