RelaxationOscillators
ElectronicrelaxationoscillatorsareeasilymadeusingRCcircuitswithoutany
inductorsorcrystals.Becauserelaxationoscillationisintrinsicallyanonlineareffect,
itisbestunderstoodinthetimedomain.
Relaxationoscillatorsoccurwhenaphysicalsystemispushedgraduallyawayfromits
equilibriumposition,thenabruptlysnapsback.Examplesaboundineverydaylife,
includingthescreechoftireswhenacarbrakesandthesustainednotesofaviolin.

Buttousethechip,itsmorehelpfultoconsiderafunctionalblockdiagram
Relaxationoscillatorsbasedonopampsaretoosimpletoaccomplishmanyofthe
complextimingtasksrequiredbymoderndigitalsystems.The555timerchipisa
morepowerfulsolutionforpulsegeneration,sequentialeventtiming,pulsewidth
