avul pakir jainulabdeen abdul kalam usually referred to as Dr. A. P. J.

Abdul
Kalam , was the eleventh President of India, serving from 2002 to 2007. He was
popularly known as the People's President.

Before his term as India's president, he worked as an aeronautical engineer. He is


popularly known as the Missile Man of India for his work on development of ballistic
missile and space rocket technology.[6] In India he is highly respected as a scientist and
as an engineer.

Personal life:

He was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram , Tamil nadu.

Abdul kalam in his childhood days got fascinated by the flying of birds. This turned in to a driving
force for him , so that in later days he became an aeronautical engineer.

In his younger days he worked as a paper boy to meet his study expenses. This shows the
determination he had for education.

He completed his schoolings in Ramanathapuram. After graduating in Science from St. Joseph's
College in trichy, Abdul Kalam graduated with a diploma in the mid-1950s from Madras
Institute of Technology specializing in Aeronautical Engineering.

He has worked in DRDO and several scientific departments of Indian government.

Under his leadership Indian space technology reached its height.

Honours

The Government of India has honoured him with the nation's highest civilian honours:
the Padma Bhushan in 1981; Padma Vibhushan in 1990; and the Bharat Ratna in 1997
for his work with ISRO and DRDO and his role as a scientific advisor to the Indian
government.
Kalam’s vision:

APJ Abdul Kalam strongly advocates an action plan to develop India into a
knowledge superpower and into a developed nation by the year 2020 in his book India
2020. Kalam is credited with the view that India ought to take a more strong position in
international relations; he regards his work on India's nuclear weapons program as a way
to assert India's place as a future superpower

Kalam continues to take an active interest in other developments in the field of science
and technology as well

Abdul kalam is closely associated with school children’s and college students. He has
travelled several parts of the country and interacted with the youth.

He calls the youngsters to have a “passionate dream”. He strongly feels that it will come
in to reality in sooner or later.

He has authored a famous book titled “wings of fire”

Conclusion :

Abdul kalam is a living legend . His dreams of india becoming super power is not so far
from reality. His life has become a source of inspiration for the youth of india. May he live
longer and thus guide us and the country in right direction.
