Lucy Flores Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with the Community, Advocating
for their Issues
Univision Nationals Aqui y Ahora Sunday Magazine Highlights Lucy as an Example of Perseverance, Latino
Accomplishment

Las Vegas, NV The Lucy Flores campaign started its Latino Week of Action celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with
Las Vegass Latino community at the annual Fiestas Patrias Parade and participating at a ceremony with the Mexican
Consulate, commemorating Mexicos independence from Spain.
But for Lucy, Hispanic Heritage Month began on a personal note when Univision Network highlighted her in their award-
winning Sunday magazine Aqui y Ahora. The show focused on Lucys against-all-odds life story, which has given her real-
life understanding of the communitys needs. The profile, viewed coast-to-coast in the nations largest Spanish language
network, highlighted how education played a pivotal role in Lucys transformation from troubled-teen, to lawyer and
now the Democratic partys candidate for Nevadas Lt. Governor.
I was fortunate enough to have people in my life who pointed me in the right path, as Aqui y Ahoras piece described,
Flores said. But there are many young people just like me out there right now who cant count on our broken education
system. That is why beyond a celebration, Hispanic Heritage Month should be an opportunity to reflect on what we can
do to ensure that future generations have the opportunity to succeed. Latinos are an integral part of Nevada; their
success is our states success.
Lucy watched the story with friends and supporters on Sunday evening. That came after a busy weekend where she rode
a horse named Chaleco during the Fiestas Patrias parade and participated in the commemoration of Mexican
independence with Mexican Consul Julin Adem Daz de Len and several other state and local officials.
Lucy also hosted a barbeque in Las Vegass East side where she launched her races canvassing efforts in the Hispanic
community.
It is extremely important we engage Latinos in the political process. This is the community where I grew up, the
community that shaped me, and I want them participating to the fullest extent. As we celebrate this month, we should
remember that one of the beautiful things about our country is that all of us can play a role in its future and we can
ensure we are part of that future -but that is up to us.
