ABOUT THE INJURY...Walker was placed on the 15-day disabled list on March
29 with a right shoulder impingement...he was activated from his rehab assignment (4/4-16 & 5/28-6/10) and optioned to Tacoma on June 10...he went
0-1 with a 6.30 ERA (7 ER, 10.0 IP) in 3 rehab starts with Tacoma...overall went
2-1 with a 3.23 ERA (11 ER, 30.2 IP) in 6 starts with the Rainiers this season...
Walker was originally set to start at Tacoma on April 15, but was scratched
due to shoulder tightness...he also made a rehab start with Jackson on April
9 vs. Mississippi (W-5.0,3,0,0,1,10,BK) and High Desert on April 4 vs. Inland
Empire (4.1,4,2,1,1,7).
2013 REWIND...Walker went 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA (6 ER, 15.0 IP) in 3 starts with
the Mariners in 2013...made his Major League debut on Aug. 30, 2013 at HOU
and earn first career win...named the Seattle Mariners Starting Pitcher of the
Year, going 9-10 with a 2.93 ERA (46 ER, 141.1 IP) in 25 starts combined between AA Jackson and AAA Tacoma...he struck out a career-high 160 batters
in 141.1 innings in 2013, leading all Mariners farmhands and ranking T7th
overall in the minor leagues...his 160 strikeouts are the most by a Mariners
farmhand since RHP Francisco Cruceta (185) and LHP Justin Thomas (162)
in 2006...Walker pitched in the All-Star Futures Game and was selected as a
Southern League All-Star this season.
HE WILL REMEMBER HIS FIRST...Walker is the youngest Mariners starting
pitcher to win his MLB debut (8/30/13 at HOU)...is the 11th pitcher in Mariners
history to win his starting debut and the 2nd (Pat Rice, 5/18/91 @NYY) to allow
0 ER AND earn a win...Erik Hanson (9/5/88 @MIN) is the only other starter to
allow 0 ER in his debut, but he lost 2-0.
YOUNG HURLERWalker made his MLB debut at 21 years, 17 days old on
Aug. 30, 2013 at HOU, becoming the youngest Seattle pitcher to debut since
Felix Hernandez (19.118 on 08/4/2005) and the 17th-youngest in club history.
TOP PROSPECTWalker was listed by MLB.com as the Mariners top prospect
and No. 5 prospect in baseball heading into the 2014 season, including the
