INTRODUCTION

The Indian Army doctrine defines its as, "The Indian Army is the land component of the
Indian Armed Forces which exist to uphold the ideals of the Constitution of India." As a
major component of national power, along with the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force,
the roles of the Indian Army are as follows:* Primary: Preserve national interests and
safeguard sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of India against any external threats by
deterrence or by waging war.* Secondary: Assist Government agencies to cope with proxy
war and other internal threats and provide aid to civil authority when requisitioned for the
purpose.
A Military Department was created in the Supreme Government of the East India Company
at Kolkata in the year 1776, having the main function to sift and record orders relating to
the Army issued by various Departments of the Govt of East India Co.With the Charter Act of
1833, the Secretariat of the Government of East India Company was reorganised into four
Departments, including a Military Department. The Army in the Presidencies of Bengal,
Bombay & Madras functioned as respective Presidency Army till April 1895, when the
Presidency Armies were unified into a single Indian Army.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the project are constructed by verification yhe needs of users. The
main objectives of the project is to provide information to the users instantly and get readily
available, on various aspect of subject which are previously mentioned in the introduction.
So the time consuming job of preparing it manually can be reduced. Some other objectives
are listed below.
1.In the age of Internet, of keeping records and collection of books, people usually give
preference to get information through web. So the aim is to provide a user-friendly
atmosphere where collection and retrieval of information is very easy.
2. To provide the information to user in one place, at a time.
3. To inform people at large scale.
4. To provide collection of information in a single head.
5. To provide step by step representation of information this makes it easy to understand.

SYSTEM ANALYSIS

IDENTIFICATION OF NEED

There is a need of new system because the main advantages of new system is the
availability of information of Indian Army.
The website is beneficial as the Indian Army Friends can get the required
information at one place which saves their precious time, since they doesnt have to search
through books. In case of online shopping, the new system provides a big collection of Army
books in which some of them are rarely available in local shops. So, in the aspect also this
system can fulfill the requirements of users.

PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION

In case of the subject of this project, i.Army, the existing system is the manual one.
The study of existing is necessary in order to prepare the website according to the need of
system.
In manual system, people have to go through various books for the sake of collecting
information. For this purpose, first of all they have to search for required books. In this case,
the searching process is time consuming, more over the every time the required book is not
available anywhere.

FESIBILITY STUDY

To find the suitability of this project following study has been constructed in different terms
as follows:

TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY
Technical feasibility concentrates on the technical aspect of the project. This has been
conducted regarding the requirement of different hardware & software. This project is
technically feasible. This project does not require any special hardware and can be run
simply on Internet Explorer.

ECONOMICAL FEASIBILITY
It is carried out to find out whether the project is financially feasible to carry out. In fact, it is
done by comparing the benefits and the cost factor involved. The hardware and software
requirements of this project are less expensive and easily available. Thus the cost factor is
cheaper. Thus the investment needed to implement the project can be easily recovered
which implies the project is economically feasible.

OPERATIONAL FEASIBILITY
While making any project it is necessary to study the operational features in it provides user
friendly features so that any new user can handle it easily. Decides the platform used so user
friendly that any user can understand its operations. The easy accessing and user-friendly
techniques make this project operational feasible.

In World War (1939-1945),
2.58 million Indian soldiers fought for the Allies, again after British promises of
independence.
Indian troops served in Eritrea, Abyssinia, North Africa, East Africa, Italy, Mesopotamia,
Iran, Burma and Malaya, with 87,000 Indian soldiers losing their lives in the war.
On the opposing side, an Indian National Army was formed under Japanese control, but had
little effect on the war.
Training

After the War, there were only two Centres left in the country one in Jabalpur and the
second in Bangalore .
On partition, the assets of the Centre at Bangalore were transferred to Pakistan .
Colonel R J Moberly OBE commanded the centre at the time of partition.
A function was held in Jabalpur to bid farewell to those comrades who had opted to go to
Pakistan .
Major P N Luthra, the senior most Indian Officer who commanded the Military Training
Regiment at the time, presented a scroll to the Pakistan Signals Corps officers at a farewell
parade.
On 1 December 1947 , Col Moberly returned to UK and Colonel Apar Singh MBE had the
honour of taking over as the first Indian Commandant of the Training Centre.
The centre is considered, traditionally, the home of all Signals personnel.
At the time of partition, the Centre consisted of a Headquarters, a Military Training
Regiment, two Technical Training Regiments, a Boys Regiment, a Depot Company and the
Signals Records.

Presidency Armies were unified into a single Indian Army. For administrative convenience,
it was divided into four Commands at that point of time viz. Punjab (including the North
West Frontier), Bengal, Madras (including Burma) and Bombay (including Sind, Quetta and
Aden). The British Indian Army was a critical force in the primacy of the British Empire in
both India, as well as across the world. Besides maintaining the internal security of the
British Raj, the army fought in theaters around the world - Anglo-Burmese Wars, First and
Second Anglo-Sikh Wars, First, Second and Third Anglo-Afghan Wars, Opium Wars in China,
Abyssinia, Boxer Rebellion in China. It is no coincidence that the decline of the British
Empire started with the Independence of India.

First and Second World
Wars: <center>

personnel during Operation Crusader in Egypt, 1941. Main articles: Indian Army during
World War I and Indian Army during World War II In the 20th century, the British Indian
Army was a crucial adjunct to the British forces in both the World Wars. 1.3 million Indian
soldiers served in World War I (19141918) for the Allies after the United Kingdom made
vague promises of self-governance to the Indian National Congress for its support. Britain
reneged on its promises after the war, following which the Indian Independence movement
gained strength. 74,187 Indian troops were killed or missing in action in the war.
Indian officers given a King's commission after passing out were posted to one of the eight
units selected for Indianisation. Political pressure due to the slow pace of Indianisation, just
69 officers being commissioned between 1918 and 1932, led to the formation of the Indian
Military Academy in 1932 and greater numbers of officers of Indian origin being
commissioned.[7] In World War II (19391945), 2.58 million Indian soldiers fought for the
Allies, again after British promises of independence. Indian troops served in Eritrea,

independence and the subsequent Partition of India in 1947, four of the ten Gurkha
regiments were transferred to the British Army. The rest of the British Indian Army was
divided between the newly created nations of Republic of India and Islamic Republic of
Pakistan. The Punjab Boundary Force, which had been formed to help police the Punjab
during the partition period, was disbanded,and Headquarters Delhi and East Punjab
Command was formed to administer the area.

Indo-Pakistani War of
1965: <center>

<img src="E:\INDIAN ARMY\New Folder\anibul2c[1].gif"> A second
confrontation with Pakistan took place in 1965, largely over Kashmir.
Pakistani President Ayub Khan launched Operation Gibraltar.
in August 1965 during which several Pakistani paramilitary troops infiltrated into Indian-
administered Kashmir and attempt to ignite an anti-India agitation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistani leaders believed that India, which was still recovering from the disastrous Sino-
Indian War, would be unable to deal with a military thrust and a Kashmiri rebellion.
However, the operation was a major failure since the Kashmiri people showed little support
for such a rebellion and India quickly moved forces to drive the infiltrators out.
Within a fortnight of the launch of the Indian counter-attack, most of the infiltrators had
retreated back to Pakistan.
Battered by the failure of Operation Gibraltar and expecting a major invasion by Indian
forces across the border.
Pakistan launched Operation Grand Slam on 1 September, invading India's Chamb-Jaurian
sector. In retaliation, the India's Army launched major offensive throughout its border with
Pakistan, with Lahore as its prime target.
Though the Indian Army's break through of the final phases of Pakistani defence was
considerably delayed due to logistical issues, the conflict was largely seen as a debacle for
the Pakistani Army.
Initially, the Indian Army met with considerable success in the northern sector. After
launching prolonged artillery barrages against Pakistan, India was able to capture three
important mountain positions in Kashmir. By 9 September, the Indian Army had made
considerable in-roads into Pakistan. India had its largest haul of Pakistani tanks when the
offensive of Pakistan's 1 Armoured Division was blunted at the Battle of Asal Uttar which
took place on 10 September near Khemkaran. Six Pakistani Armoured Regiments took part
in the battle against three Indian Armoured Regiments with inferior tanks. By the time the
battle had ended, the 4th Indian Division had captured about 97 Pakistani tanks in either
destroyed, or damaged, or in intact condition.

<h1> The Indian Military Academy
presently has the following entries:-</h1>
<h3>1. Cadets Ex National Defence Academy and Ex Army Cadet College. 
<h3>2. Graduate Direct Entry Scheme. 
<h3>3. Technical Graduate Entry Scheme for Engineering graduates. 
<h3>4. UES Entry for Final and Pre final Engineering graduates. 
<h3>5. 10+2 PCM (Tech) Entry. 
<h3><img src="E:\INDIAN ARMY\New Folder\Red[1].gif"width=20 height=20>The
duration of training is one year except for the Direct Entry Scheme, for which it is one and a
half years. Direct Entry is to be made through a written examination conducted by the UPSC
and the final selection is by the Services Selection Board. The age limits for them is from 19
to 24 yrs at the time of entry. Ex-NDA and ex-ACC cadets join after completing a three year
degree course. The former enter NDA through UPSC examination and SSB whereas the ACC
cadets join through the ranks after qualifying an examination conducted by Army
Headquarters and facing the SSB. The technical graduates, who are engineering graduates,
do not have to take a written examination but pass through SSB.

height=20>Candidates selected for 10+2 Technical entry scheme are inducted for one years'
Basic Military Training at IMA. This is followed by a four years' degree course in Engineering
from College of Military Engineering, Pune / Military College of Telecommunication
Engineering, Mhow / Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering,
Secunderabad. The total duration of training is five years. On completion of four years of
training, commission in the rank of a Lieutenant is granted. For a degree in Engineering,
there is a need to complete the stipulated five years of training.

After the War, there were only two Centres left in the country one in Jabalpur and the
second in Bangalore .
On partition, the assets of the Centre at Bangalore were transferred to Pakistan .
Colonel R J Moberly OBE commanded the centre at the time of partition.
A function was held in Jabalpur to bid farewell to those comrades who had opted to go to
Pakistan .
Major P N Luthra, the senior most Indian Officer who commanded the Military Training
Regiment at the time, presented a scroll to the Pakistan Signals Corps officers at a farewell
parade.
On 1 December 1947 , Col Moberly returned to UK and Colonel Apar Singh MBE had the
honour of taking over as the first Indian Commandant of the Training Centre. The centre is
considered, traditionally, the home of all Signals personnel.
At the time of partition, the Centre consisted of a Headquarters, a Military Training
Regiment, two Technical Training Regiments, a Boys Regiment, a Depot Company and the
Signals Records. &nbsp:&nbsp: &nbsp: &nbsp: &nbsp: &nbsp: &nbsp: &nbsp: &nbsp:
&nbsp:

After the Sino-Indian conflict of 1962, there was sudden expansion and two additional
Centres were raised, one in Goa and the second at Jabalpur . In 1967, 3 Signal Training
Centre, located at Jabalpur , was disbanded.
Later on the Regiments which were part of this Training Centre were amalgamated with 1
and 2 Signal Training Centres and the establishment of the Centre was revised.
Each of the Training Centres now consists of one Military Training Regiment and three
Technical Training Regiments.

This centre consists of a Headquarter, a Military Training Regiment, Technical Training
Regiments, and a Depot Regiment.
The centre is responsible for imparting military and technical training to recruits first time
joining the Corps and also for upgrading and conversion training for various trades and
categories at later stages.

In the early sixties, it was decided to raise a second Training Centre for the Corps.
After going into the pros and cons of various locations, it was decided that the Centre should
be located in the southern part of the country.
Accordingly, various locations were reconnoitered and after the liberation of Goa in
December 1961, the choice finally fell on establishing the Centre in Goa.
Goa was chosen for its sylvan surroundings and the fact that it offered certain ready -built
accommodation which originally was used by the Portuguese garrison.
What possibly was lost in the labyrinth of bureaucratic paper work was the fact that Goa is
not a city by itself, but comprises of numerous small townships spread throughout its area.
The accommodation that was available was in penny packets and was located at small
outposts throughout the island.
A decision however having been taken, 2 Signal Centre was raised at Panaji (then known as
Panjim) on 9 December 1962.

SYSTEM SECURITY & MEASURES

System security is the technical innovation and procedures applied to the
hardware & operating system to protect against deliberate or accidental damage from a
defined threat. There are many threats to the system like errors and omission fire, natural
disasters, and external attack.
Every system must provide built in feature for security and integrity of data
withoutSafeguard against unauthorized access, fraud, and embezzlement and like so the
system is to threaten the survival of the organization. Thus it must be provided.
Before uploading the site, the first thing, which is done, is booking if the space in
the mainframe computer. Then the web server, anti viruses and firewall check all the

FUTURE SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

A website is a very good medium which provides the facility of availability of
required information in less time span. Majority of people prefers to website rather than
reading books and collecting records.
This project is useful for collecting information about the class of literature
mentioned as earlier i.e. Army. The user will find out the required data very easily, because
of the efficient structure of website.
