Naples Christmas Spectacular

Our church has historically desired to be like a sailboat that

tacks with the wind of Gods Spirit, no matter which direction
He blows and works. Our church sought to be like the men
of Issachar, who understood the times and knew what to
do (1 Chronicles 12:32). Our Pastor of Worship and Music,
Dr. Todd Stearns, seeks to be like Solomon asking the Lord
for wisdom and knowledge (2 Chronicles 1:10). He also
consults with our lay leaders and pastoral staff.
This year, we will celebrate the 32nd annual Living Christmas Trees. This
long-standing tradition brings name recognition in the community as thousands
have attended and heard the gospel of Jesus Christ. Christmas is the best time
of the year to draw people to a major production, even more than at Easter. I
am grateful for the huge numbers of our people who have served in so many
capacities over the years.
We have tended to adopt the if it aint broke, dont fx it approach to the LCT.
However, Todd and the staff have sensed the fulfllment of Isaiah 43:19: Behold,
I am doing a new thing. We seek a balance between the tried and proven
versus the fresh and new, following neither habit nor impulse, but trusting in
Gods guidance. Beginning next year, we feel led to change the name to Naples
Christmas Spectacular and no longer use the Trees as a primary focus. This
will allow us to have a larger and more professional production, utilizing the
entire stage, a full choir, orchestra, ensembles, drama, choreography, student
and childrens groups, and new technology with lights and audio.
With creativity and fresh vision, we then can have a clean template to work
with in updating, while retaining the most successful parts of past productions.
Instead of people saying, Ive seen that already, they will be offered a new
presentation each year. Backdrops, arrangements of musicians, and staging
will then be able to have great fexibility.
This allows us to recruit younger workers, who have different talents and
involves not just the Sunday morning but also the Saturday evening worship
teams. We will be able to retain more choir members, many of whom do not
feel able to stand for such a long time in such a narrow space. Hopefully, new
people will enlist. Current equipment needs replacing over the next year. We
will have safer places for the singers and the fexibility of moving quickly in case
there are emergencies. Our only desire is to give God glory. May we have living
Christian traditions which refect His wisdom and knowledge.
Churchwide Dr. Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor
