Our Voice
Showcasing the talents of
our employees

Dear Colleagues,

At the outset, I would like to greet you all as this is my first personal message to the team
since I have joined. Past 7-8 months have been pretty eventful and hectic. Meeting
people, understanding how we work and taking over the responsibility from Steve
Schmidt

The Last couple of months have also brought some good news for all of us We have
been recently awarded four projects. Neyveli, Angul LOI, Darlipalli and North Karanpura.
So the good thing here is that we have our hands full but it is not going to be an easy
journey. We are bound to face challenges while executing these projects.

I am however confident that we can meet these challenges and very positively respond
to the changes in the market. Our success will come from our expertise, innovation
capabilities, engineering competencies but more than anything from our commitment to
the values and vision of Alstom. We have already achieved a lot together, and I do
believe that Boilers India has a very promising and exciting future.

India is one of the most dynamic, challenging and rewarding places to work in the
present Global scenario. We are very lucky to witness this deep evolution of the country
and with it the business we are working in.

The entry of new players in the market and the changing political dynamics has made it
very crucial that we excel in every single thing we do. We must ensure that we are all
committed to the d2e approach while keeping in mind the DISHA vision envisaged for the
business because that is how growth happens, one gesture, one person, and one moment
at a time. We must not forget,

The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each
member is the team

We have strong ambitions requiring us to develop continuously; this automatically
creates the need for a more vibrant and stronger internal communication system.
FLAME fulfils that crucial need, simulating a network which makes us know each other
better. It is YOUR magazine, YOUR ideas, YOUR achievements, experiences and
discoveries which makes it a real pleasure to release another edition of it. Hope you
enjoy reading it !!

Through the looking glass
Though the roads been rocky it sure feels good to me

Xuanzang

Xu-An-Zang? What a strange name? Who is he and why
are we talking about him?
He was a Chinese Buddhist Monk who made a 17 year
journey (covering more than 20000 miles on foot and
without the aid of any maps or modern gadgets) in 629 C.E
to reach India.

17 Years? Really??Why was he so desperate to reach India?
He believed that true knowledge and wisdom could only be
obtained by coming to India The Land of Buddha. He
wanted to answer questions that were troubling Chinese
Buddhists in those days.

Hard to believe? Are you sure that he had no secret Mission
in Mind??
Absolutely.Unlike travellers like Vasco Da Gama, Columbus
and Bartolomeu Dias who did it for Money, Glory, Religious
campaigning XZ was motivated only by the thirst for
knowledge.

Was he successful? What did he do in India?
He not only studied Buddhism in detail by staying in
Various Indian cities but also learned Yoga Shastras in
Nalanda University.

How did he convince the Chinese Monks back home about
his insights after he returned?
He took back with him 657 copies of books on Buddhism
on 20 horses. The entire collection was translated into
Chinese from Sanskrit under his supervision and placed in a
knowledge temple which still exists in China.

I never read anything about Buddhism? Is it that
interesting?
Strange, how little we know about our past. Specially in
times sought with so much strife, when Buddhas message
of tolerance and peace hold more relevance than ever
before.

I never thought Chinese people had any respect for the
Indian way of life.
This not only shows how little we know about our own
past, but about our neighbours as well. There is an entire
world beyond Europe and America waiting to be explored.

Boiler standardization for coal based 660 MW Thermal power plants -

India Boiler team has recently developed a product/platform concept and evaluates the wide range of Coal-which covers more
than 60% of Indian market and can yield guarantee values to meets different customers specification. The Coal range has
been classified as medium grade coal and thus named this development project as RP660MGI. This decision was made keeping
in mind the tough competitive environment and the standardized product which is required to suit different customer across
the country.
The journey involved multiple discussions between various partners, mainly Alstom plants group which resulted on the
development of the product. It has successfully passed the design gate review for its commercialization and Alstom is bidding
majority of the proposals based on the platform concept.
Following are the salient features of standardized boiler as a product which shall be considered as unique selling point.
Suitable for vide variety of Coal.
Suitable for different location across Indian terrain.
Ease of Construction.
Better operational efficiency at site.
Safe design.
Enhanced product quality
Proven technology across globe.
Reduced execution cycle time.
Optimized structure.

Knowledge is Power? No. Knowledge on its own is nothing, but the application of useful knowledge, now that is powerful

Till date we have received 12 Nos. Supercritical Boiler orders from BHEL @ total Alstom value of around 1.4 BUSD. This
value includes recently received projects namely Darlipalli (2x800 MW) & North Karanpura (3x660 MW).

We have now entered the market with BHEL for a new design of Tower Type Boilers and have received a prestigious order
for design, manufacture, supply, erection & commissioning of Neyveli (2x500 MW) @ value approx. 168 MUSD.
