The monitor is designed and constructed to operate in environmental conditions in Power Plants, Switchyards or Substations.
The TM1 is directly mounted to an existing valve on the transformer and circulates transformer oil within it to provide a continuous reading of hydrogen in ppm. Data can be viewed with the supplied TM View software or via a customers SCADA system (RS 485 or RS 232) and will allow the end user to track the hydrogen ppm levels over time and compare against user-defined caution and alarm settings.
The TM1 monitor includes two 4-20mA inputs for use with an optional moisture sensor. In addition to the inputs, there are three 4-20mA outputs. Also included are three user-programmable relays, as well as relays for service-related conditions and loss-of-power.
810-1928-00 Rev A TM1 Operations & Maintenance Guide 3 of 11 Product Symbols The following symbols are used throughout the Transformer Monitor or accessories. They are defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission, IEC 878 and IEC 417A. It is important for safety reasons to have an understanding of their representation.

This device has been tested and certified by UL to comply with applicable U.S. and Canadian safety standards. Table 1: Product Symbols WARNING statements in this manual identify conditions or practices that could result in personal injury. CAUTION statements in this manual identify conditions or practices that could result in damage to the equipment or other property. NOTE statements provide additional important information. 810-1928-00 Rev A TM1 Operations & Maintenance Guide 4 of 11 Operation Once the TM1 is installed, configured, and powered-on, it will begin operation. During the first 24 hours of operation, the TM1 will perform a series of reference cycles as it stabilizes. The reference cycle is an internal sensor calibration that will be performed that typically runs every twelve hours, lasting 2 hours. During the reference cycles, no DGA data will be reported. DGA values generated prior to completion of the reference cycles may be disregarded.
The TM1 will make one measurement every 30 minutes, with the exception of necessary reference cycles. The number of reference cycles performed daily is a function of changes in the temperature of the incoming oil. The daily reference cycle cannot be scheduled or canceled; it is an internal function that will be initiated automatically. The reference cycle will take approximately 2 hours, during which time DGA results will not be reported. Capturing Data The TM1 will store approximately two years of data in non-volatile RAM. The data can be captured to the supplied USB flash drive and imported into the TM View software, TM1 Configuration Utility, or to another application. Once the flash drive is inserted, the red, blue and green LEDs will alternately light as the data is downloaded to the drive. Once the data transfers are complete and any new firmware has been uploaded into the instrument, the LED activity will stop and the green LED shall remain illuminated (without flashing). After 10 seconds in this state, the flash drive may be removed.
If there is an issue with file transfers or firmware upload, the green LED will be solidly illuminated, and the blue LED will flash. This is also an indication that the flash drive can be safely removed from the monitor. An event file with the detail about the fault will be loaded onto the flash drive under a folder named with the monitor serial number. The file can be viewed through the Configuration Utility.
If the flash drive is removed before it is ready, the green LED will flash on and off. This activity will continue until the flash drive is re-inserted and a proper dismounting status can be achieved. Power cycling the monitor will not clear this function.

To upgrade the firmware, please follow these steps: 1. Loosen the four black knobs and gently remove the TM1 cover. 2. Insert the drive into the USB socket as shown in Fig 1 above. 3. The upgrade will begin automatically and the red, blue and green LEDs will flash alternately. 4. When the LED activity has stopped and only the green LED is steady, remove the flash drive. 5. Carefully replace the TM1 cover and secure the black knobs. 810-1928-00 Rev A TM1 Operations & Maintenance Guide 6 of 11 Connecting a Computer A laptop can be connected directly to the TM1 to configure the monitor or capture the data through a CLI session in any standard terminal emulation program such as Microsoft
Hyper Terminal. To make a direct connection, follow these steps: 1. Go to www.FTDIchip.com/drivers/VCP.htm to download the proper USB driver to your PC (this driver is needed to properly communicate with the TM1). 2. Carefully remove the TM1 cover by loosening the four black knobs. 3. Using a mini-USB cable (not supplied), connect to the socket on the controller board as shown in the figure 1. 4. Open HyperTerminal, and configure the COM port as follows: Baud rate = 115200 Data Bits = 8 Parity = none Stop Bits = 1 Flow Control = hardware 5. Press enter three times to bring up the login prompt: username: any name you like password: Password (case-sensitive) 6. When finished communicating with the monitor, type exit, then press enter. 7. Carefully replace the TM1 cover by securing the four black knobs. Note: Commands and queries to the monitor are provided in the TM1 Firmware Command Set document included on the flash drive. Manual Calibration Adjustment The TM1 is designed to operate within specification without requiring calibration. The TM1 utilizes automatic reference cycles to periodically adjust sensor performance.
The TM1 does have a manual calibration adjustment feature that enables you to adjust the response to match a laboratory DGA sample. To use this feature, the monitor must have been placed in service at least 24 hours prior to collecting the manual oil sample from the transformer, as the TM1 must use both the manual analysis value and the measured values over the period of time between the sampling and the current time. For more detail on this feature, please refer to the TM1 Configuration Utility Users Guide. Configuration The TM1 can be configured with the TM Configuration Utility Tool preloaded on the USB flash drive included with the monitor accessories. To get started, refer to the Users guide, which is also included on the USB drive. 810-1928-00 Rev A TM1 Operations & Maintenance Guide 7 of 11 Front Panel Indicators LED Color Status Condition Indicated POWER Green Off AC Power unavailable, analyzer not powered On Normal Operation AC Power available, analyzer powered USB Configuration The Power LED will be used to indicate the status of operations when the USB flash or console ports are connected Flashing Indicates that the USB flash is active and the USB drive should not be removed until the system goes to steady on for 10 seconds SERVICE Blue Off Instrument Operating Normally On Service Required: An issue is preventing analyses to be performed; or analyses have persistently failed; or communication has persistently failed.
