Have Some Stuff You Want to
Disappear?

On Saturday, October 11, Soroptimist
of Nevada is using our social hall for a
rummage sale. Proceeds go to help
women and children in the area specifically Girl
Empowerment, Moss House, and family care bags
for foster children in Vernon County.
If you have some items in your closet or garage
that are just in the way, the club would love to
include them in the sale. They can be brought to
church anytime before the 11th. Put in box or bag
and clearly label rummage sale. Becky Kiel is the
current president of Soroptimist, and Mary Reinert
is the treasurer.
Movie Night Enjoyed by Many

Approximately 40 St. Paul members, young and
old, gathered on a beautiful fall night of September
21 for our first outdoor movie night. How to Train
Your Dragon kept the kids interested but also pro-
vided some food for thought for everyone.
Questions sent home asked viewers to think
about the one trait we each would like to be known
for. The movie says a lot about relationships.
Viewers were challenged to find someone to tell
that God loves them.
Thanks to Mitchelle Hall and Linda Klotz for the
freshly popped popcorn and to Pastor Chris for his
home brewed rootbeer and to Bridget Norcross and
Kristine Fulton for setting up the screen and equip-
ment.

Congratulations:

Gates Aron Hall was born on Sept. 2 to Kyptin and
Erica Hall. He weighted 8 lbs. and 3 oz. Proud
grandparents are Charles and Mitchelle Hall and
Linda and Marvin Klotz are the proud great-
grandparents.

Lynn Anderson was on the 1963-1964 North Da-
kota State College of Science Mens Basketball
team that competed in the NJCAA Championship
held in Hutchinson, Kansas. During the 2014
Homecoming celebration at NDSCS in Wahpeton
the first weekend of October, Lynn and his team-
mates will be inducted into the Colleges Letterwin-
ners Hall of Fame. While Lynns family is very proud
of the athlete he was, they are more grateful for the
wonderful husband, father, and grandfather he is
today.
St. Paul has received thanks:

Thank you for the invitation to your special Sunday
for the dedication of the Christ candle base. Im
sorry I cant attend. I have a ticket to the Kansas
City Symphony on that day. It pleases me that a
portion of the memorial money for Richmond is be-
ing used in this way. Having Jim Nelson make it
makes it extra special. God belss you in your min-
istry there and Ill keep you and the congregation in
my prayers.
Sincerely,
Lorraine Anderson

My thanks to all who helped make my 96th birthday
memorable. I am enjoying all the cards and gifts
over and over again. Thanks to all.
Marjorie Range

Thank you so much for the beautiful service and to
the ladies for serving lunch for all of us after
Marges funeral. It was delicious.

SPY to Host Silent Auction

The St. Paul Youth will host a silent auction start-
ing November 2nd through November 16th. They
are seeking items for donation to auction off. Be
creative and help the youth out. Items can be
brought to church on Sundays or dropped off at the
office on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday morn-
ings. There is a short form in the office to attach to
your donation.
We all probably have some valuable that we
would be willing to donate to help our kids fund their
way to the National Youth Rally. If you have ques-
tions, call Nicole Anderson at 684-3337.

Lightening the Load
A few years ago I spent a long afternoon helping my father-in-law clean out his shop, packing things for a
move. It was important work that needed to be done. We were on ladders bringing things down from shelves,
sorting through things, figuring out what was trash, keep, or sell. In all the dust, cobwebs, and tools, we got
dirty, our allergies flared up, and we were overwhelmed at the size of the task at hand. My in-laws were
downsizing, and I could see how difficult it was letting go of things, getting rid of or selling things that were
tough to say goodbye. I reflect on this experience because I think it is very true in our lives as well. Many of
you can probably attest that you too may have some things on your shelves, in your garage, in your attic, or
closet that could probably lighten your load. Perhaps this is the same for your life as well.
Try to imagine what it was like to be a fisherperson, coming in from a long day of fishing, only to meet a man
named Jesus. Jesus tells you to drop your nets and follow him. What really does this mean, to give up the
only way you know how to make a living, to leave your family behind, and to enter into a life that would make
people judge you on your poor choices. I cant imagine how difficult it was for the disciples to do this, the
things that they gave up. I would assume they left their boat, all their fishing stuff, probably a home, and any
belongings that were not portable. But all this seems to be overshadowed by the emotional commitment that
they made.
Just as we downsize our life from the clutter and stuff we accumulate, we also have lives that are cluttered
with anger, judgment, hostility, fear, or selfishness. I myself am guilty of this, holding on to things that are a
heavy burden to carry. Once I stop being angry or frustrated, I can see that those things controlled my life. It
is not easy to just let things go, things that we are often very passionate about, but it seems like there is
something bigger in our lives. Like the Disciples of Christ, something made them give up everything they had;
something made them make tough decisions about leaving family. Our focus often shifts from our relationship
with God to other things. Things that God will carry for us if we give them to God, and in doing so, we lighten
the load; lighten the burdens on our lives. What can you give to God this month? Can you let go of those
heavy burdens? Giving and letting go, it is important work that needs to be done. It is important because we
open ourselves up to Gods presence in our lives. We enter into a deeper relationship with a God who takes
the burdens from our lives, and through Christ who carried the cross, the burden of our sin, we enter into the
grace and forgiveness that we all need. As we downsize, as we drop our nets, we give our worries to God
and we realize that it is only with God that we are able to move, able to live.
Peace,
Pastor Chris

Remember those balloons?

On Rally Sunday, our Sunday School kids sent
many colorful balloons flying into the air. It looked
like they were going north, but somewhere up in the
air, at least one turned east. We had a post on the
St. Paul Facebook page that someone found one in
Joppa, Illinois approximately 380 miles from here.
Its Not too Late
The Womens Book Group will meet on Thursday,
October 9 at 7:00 at the home of Susie Knuteson.
Were reading Whats so Amazing About Grace by
Phillip Yancey. So far it has provided some food for
thought. Even if you havent read, you are welcome
to join us as we discuss what we have read. Your
questions just might help us on our way to under-
standing what we have read and how it affects our
lives.
Confirmation in the Fall?

It might seem out of season but St. Paul will be
confirming three of our young people on Sunday,
October 26. Mikayla Mohrmann, Abby Norcross,
and Anna Fulton will soon complete their confirma-
tion studies and be confirmed. Mark your calendars
to be with us on that special day for our congrega-
tion.
