From the Theres a lot happening this week and next in the Calhoun Honors Col- lege. Let me mention just two events:
If youre a STEM major interested in research, be sure to attend one of the Goldwater Scholarship information sessions on October 15 at 4:00 or 5:00pm (details below). Current sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply this year, but freshmen are also welcome to learn more about this prestigious award.
On Thursday of this week (4:30pm, Madren Center, details on page 2), please join us in honoring last years Duckenfield Scholars, Megan Brovan and Elizabeth Whittaker. They, along with Dr. Ken Addison, will speak about the Duckenfield Scholarship, which gives one or two Cal- houn Honors students an amazing opportunity to attend a summer session at Oxford University! The Duckenfield Scholars Program enables one or two members of the Calhoun Honors College, who desire to experience another culture and to broaden their global perspective, who demonstrate extraordinary talent, motivation and commitment, to attend St. Peter's Summer School at Magdalen College, Oxford University, each summer. Program Dates: July 4- August 8, 2015 Educational Enrichment Travel Grants Poster Forum Have you thought about applying for a EETG? Are you having a hard time coming up with an idea of what to do on a EETG? Just want to see what your fellow Honors students did during last Winter Break or Summer 2014? Come to the Educational Enrichment Travel Grant Poster Forum on Tuesday, October 21st in the Hendrix Ballrooms A&B between 4 and 6pm! We promise it will be VERY interesting!! Goldwater Scholarship Information Session Clemson students have been very successful in winning Goldwater Scholarships which will pay up to $7500 per academic year - 20 have won since 2007! If you are currently a sophomore or junior (planning to graduate between May 2016 and May 2017), are majoring in the STEM fields and have a GPA of 3.85 or above, plan a research career (either in academia, a national lab, or in industry), and plan to go to graduate school when you graduate, you should plan to apply for a Goldwater Scholarship this fall. There will be information sessions on Wednesday, October 15th at 4pm and 5pm in the Holmes Hall Multi-purpose Room. Calhoun Honors College - Student Advisory Board We are inviting passionate and dedicated students to apply for a position on the board for the 2014 - 2015 academic school year. The Student Advisory Board (SAB) serves as a sounding board for ideas on improving the college and as monitors of the colleges performance. Applicants will be expected to attend at least one of the following meetings: October 20 and/or November 24 (both 5-6pm). Responsibilities include gathering feedback and making suggestions to the college, and communi- cating with students to inform them of current honors initiatives.
