Spring Scholars
The spring 2014 semester was
the first time The Joshua 1:9
Group was able to award
scholarships. Thanks to your
generous support and donations
we were able to award our first
two scholarships.

Our first scholar Alex is a
young father who is currently
working in the retail / services
industry. He and his wife are
great parents and totally
committed to their beautiful
About the Joshua 1:9 Group
We award workforce training scholarships to fathers and mothers in a crisis
pregnancy so they can choose life and achieve their education and
employment goals. We hope families who choose life will stay committed
to each other, use their education to support their family, and provide
greater opportunities for their children. We are a 501(c)3 tax exempt Texas
Non Profit Corporation.

newborn child. Alex is working
to complete a program at Lone
Star College in CAD/CAM
(industrial drawing) with the goal
of working in the energy services
sector.

Although he encountered some
difficulties that caused him to
miss some classes, he was able to
make up that time and complete
his course with an A average.

Our second scholar
Jack is a young father
with is currently
working as an entry
level warehouse laborer.
He and his co-parent
also welcomed a
beautiful child into the
world this spring
during his semester.

Jack is working to
complete a high-tech
manufacturing
certificate at Lone Star
College with the goal of
staying with his current
employer but with a
significant promotion to
a skilled manufacturing
position. Even with a
full load of three classes,
work, and a new child,
Jack completed all three
classes with a B
average.

We could not be more
proud of our first group
of scholarship award
winners, and were
looking forward to them
completing their
programs and applying
their skills in the
workforce.
The 1
st
annual charity
scholarship poker
tournament was held on
Saturday, June 14
th
.
With more than 30
players, this was not
only our first event-
based fundraiser, but
also a great success.

Thanks to the generous
initial friends of J1:9
buy-in donations, and
late add-on buy-in
donations by those who
got knocked out early,
we raised over $1,000
in one evening. That
will be enough to pay
for up to two workforce
scholarships this fall.

During the evening,
friends of The Joshua
1:9 Group enjoyed hot
barbeque and cold drink
while doing their best to
outlast the competition.
After several hours of
competitive and fun
play there were 8
finalists who made it to
