What better time than now as we ready ourselves to return to the sanctuary than
to take a step back and give thanks to God. As individuals, as a church family, and
as the Body of Christ, God has blessed us. Tapped on the shoulder by God through
the call of the Spirit, our Lord has equipped and charged every last one of us to be
His ambassadors, His witnesses, to love HIM and to love the people of the world.
We regularly talk of being blessed so that we will bless others. I encourage you to reflect,
ponder, and pray about how God has positioned and equipped you to be a blessing to others.
Then do it. Take a step forward. And, yes, one important way we can join in Christs work is
by giving the first fruits of that which has been given to us. As we move back into the sanctuary, lets take a step forward in ministry and in mission, including our giving. Giving generously is a way of giving thanks to God, it helps us grow as individuals, and the funds make an
impact for the Kingdom.
In joy,
Brad

Our renovated sanctuary will be equipped with a Hearing Loop system on the ground floor
of the sanctuary. When we resume worship in our new sanctuary, folks using hearing aids
and cochlear implants should be able to pick up a clear speech signal without background
noise. In order to access this technology, though, you will need to contact your audiologist to
make sure your hearing aids or cochlear implant have a t-coil option for a loop system and
that it has been turned on. Pam Halligan may be contacted via pamhalligan@att.net or 803782-6532 with questions.
High Schoolers, please join us November 7-9 at White Oak Conference Center in Winnsboro, SC. Our theme this year is Be the Miracle. Keynote speaker will be Rev. Chris Lee,
Associate Pastor for Youth and Families at Avondale Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC,
and Rev. Mason Todd, who served in Trinity Presbytery as the youth director and worship
band member at New Kirk Presbyterian for seven years. Cost for this retreat is $175.00 per
person due by Friday, October 24. (We will also be taking an EPC bus up on Saturday morning, November 8, as five of our youth will help lead the Trinity Presbytery Retreat.) Contact Tricia,
(tmccormick@eastminsterpres.org) for information or to register.
Join us at the Blue Ridge Assembly from December 5-7. They will gather to talk about how
to put words on our faith and spread the Good News right here in Columbia. God will use
the youth of Eastminster to change this Columbia community if we let Him!!! Parents sign
your children up for this retreat! Register with Tricia (tmccormick@eastminsterpres.org.)
Do not have a form? Ask Tricia.
We invite you to join us this year at Eastminsters annual Advent Retreat as we wrestle
with the whys and hows of Shouting It from the Mountain Top! Well discover some fresh ways to dare to share the love of Christ with many around us: with family
members, with co-workers, and with our friends from down the street. If this peaks your
interest, pick-up a brochure at church, download a brochure from the E-News or check us
out online. You may register with Mary at 256-1654 or mbaldauf@eastminsterpres.org.
If you were not in attendance at the gym worship on Sunday, October 5, members were
told they could take one of our old blue hymnals with them. If you missed out and would like
one of the hymnals, please stop by the 2nd floor lobby adjacent to the reception area and pick
up a hymnal there.
This year, we at Eastminster have registered 325 new members of the community who use the Christian Life Center for various activities including
playing basketball, using the workout equipment, taking exercise classes, and
walking the track.
All adults are invited to the gym for a combined Sunday school class on October
12. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Bill Bouknight, who recently led the Officers
Retreat and our worship services on Sunday, September 28. Please join us at 10:00
a.m. in the gym and come early for doughnuts, coffee and fellowship!!
You are invited to a congregational meal on Sunday, October 26, following the
11:15 a.m. service in the gym, for fried/baked chicken and sides. Please RSVP to
Mary (256-1654 or mbaldauf@eastminsterpres.org) for the meal. Adults $6.00,
children 8 and under $3.00, household cap $25.00.
The Family Shelter has a critical need for diapers sizes 3, 4 and 5, AND wipes.
Between now and October 19, bring diapers to boxes in Thompson Hall, the CLC
and the churchs main reception area. The mission of the Family Shelter is to
provide emergency shelter, food, resources, and hope to homeless families with
children in the Midlands area.
EPW Daytime Study is The Best Yes, by Lysa Terkeurst. This six-week DVD
series will be facilitated by Hannah Stiles, and will help us to make wise decisions.
This study considers our two most important words, yes and no. It is for those
of us who feel overwhelmed with all that we are doing, and desire to serve God
where He wants us to serve Him. Do these phrases, Im drowning in the regrets
of too many commitments, and I dread saying yes, but feel powerless to say no,
and I hope theres more to life than my to-do list, and Im a little overwhelmed
and a lot worn out! sound like your life? If so, this Bible study is for you. It will
be Tuesdays at 10 a.m. The class began on October 7, but it is not too late to join.
Sign up on the web or with Mary Baldauf at mbaldauf@eastminsterpres.org or
256-1654. Class meets in room E-351.
JESUS ROCKS
Did you know Eastminster had a paint team? Have you noticed the hall between
the day school and the administration building, or how nice the stair railings in
some areas are looking? The team has been painting their way through different
areas of the building and making it look great. The team consists of Tom Griffin, Lewis Fowler, Ken Carey, Jim Evatt, Leigh Pound, Parks Small and leader, Bill
Coggins. If you like to paint and want to help spruce up Eastminster, contact Bill
at bcoggins@sc.rr.com.
Each of you should have received your stewardship commitment package by the
time you receive this newsletter. If you have not, please call Maria at 256-1654 or
email her at mharvin@eastminsterpres.org. She will make sure you receive one.
Stewardship Sunday will be October 26. Please prayerfully consider what portion
you will share with the church of what God has entrusted to you.
The PEACE Service offers you a place to come away and be quiet before the
Lord. It is a service where we pray for all kinds of needs and celebrate the Lords
Supper together. If you desire a quiet place of worship, join us at 5:00 p.m. in the
Adult Reception Hall. A nursery is available in the Drop-In nursery rooms in the
CLC.

Many of you purchased your Christmas trees from the youth last year and
were very pleased! The youth will be selling Fraser Fir Christmas trees and
wreaths again this year. The sale of all trees and wreaths will help offset the cost
of youth mission trips in 2015. Sales have begun and will run through November 23, with pick-up from December 2-4 from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. in the upper
parking lot. You will be able to purchase trees from a youth on Sundays. Look
for the tables in the breezeway or pick-up an order form and return it with your
check to the church. Costs range from $35.00 for 4-5 ft. trees to $118.00 for
9-10 ft. trees. You may order on line at www.eastminsterpres.org and look under Quick Links! Please make your checks payable to Eastminster Presbyterian
Church and include on the memo line Youth Christmas Tree Fundraiser. (Mail
your check to Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3200 Trenholm Road, Columbia 29204 attn: Youth Office, or drop by the church.)
Our trip to Leoganne, Haiti, is scheduled for November 2-8, and will cost approximately $1,000 per person (includes air, lodging in the hospital, and meals
daily). We need folks with light construction skills (painting, some woodwork,
etc.), nurses and doctors of every specialty, dentists, and folks with general
office/computer skills. We will plan another trip early in 2015 so come now
and learn more about our work in Haiti! Scholarship assistance up to $500 per
person is available; please contact Julie McDaniel (jmcdaniel@eastminsterpres.
org) for the scholarship application.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Where do I park?
1. There are 25 spaces in the paved parking lot off Medway Road for those with mobility challenges. Due to newer code
restrictions, the Medway parking lot ramps had to be relocated. One wheelchair accessible ramp is under the porte-cochre
and the other is located closer to the administration building.
2. The Carolina Childrens Home field across Trenholm Road has been lined, and there will be parking assistance on Sunday mornings as well as a traffic officer to insure your safety as you cross Trenholm Road.
3. The parking lot off Longleaf Road and the lined parking spaces along Longleaf, Daly and in front of the church are available also.
