SANDIWAY PRIMARY SCHOOL

NEWSLETTER
NUMBER 6 / AUTUMN TERM 2014 / WEDNESDAY 8TH OCTOBER 2014
PARKING NEAR SCHOOL
This spate of wet weather seems to have
exacerbated the parking problems that seem to
plague the beginning and end of the school day. I
have heard reports of near misses with children
getting out of cars whilst other cars drive into the
Parish Car Park. Please do not park in the drop-off
zone.
I strongly urge all
parents to consider
the safety of all
children, particularly
at the beginning of the
day when there
seems to be even
more of a rush.
Please imagine the
distress that it would
cause to the whole
school community if
there was an accident
when this can easily
be avoided.
HOME-SCHOOL
AGREEMENT
Many thanks for your
positive feedback with
the Home/School
Agreement that was
sent home last week.
Please send any
remainder
agreements into
school by the end of
this week.
PICK UP FROM
AFTER-SCHOOL
CLUBS
In the attempt to
create a safer
environment for children and parents at club
collection time, all children will now be sent out of
the junior exit (through the double doors in the new
extension). This will allow extra space to ensure
that all children are handed over to you safely and
avoid the staff car park, which I have noticed
getting busy at this end of the day. Please use
pedestrian entrances to collect children.
A PROUD MOMENT
It is always lovely to hear positive comments about
our children. Speaking to two of our regular supply
teachers, they have remarked on the wonderful
manners and respect that our children have.
Sometimes we take this for granted, but we should
remember that this is so important and I am sure
you would like to hear that your children always
show their best
manners to us - you
should also be proud!
This week in
assembly, I have
talked to the children
about how impressed
we are, but also that
we should not be
complacent and we
should always show
our best manners and
respect whether in
lessons, around the
school or at playtimes.
I would like your
support in reinforcing
this at home.
PTA
Please keep checking
the school calendar on
the website for PTA
events that are now
confirmed.
The next event is the
Halloween Disco after
school on Thursday
23rd October. Tickets
will be on sale in the
run up to the disco for
just 2.50 which will
include a drink and a
portion of chips. The
Reception/KS1 disco will be from 5.30pm until
6.30pm and the KS2 disco from 6.45pm until
7.45pm. There will be details of halloween-based
competitions coming out to you soon!
SCHOOL UNIFORM
We have updated the uniform order form and this
is now on the school website (under the School
Office tab), or available from the school office.
As the colder weather approaches, we have
sourced an alternative coat that you may be
interested in - a stylish urban jacket, which is a
padded/quilted and showerproof jacket with the
school logo on (as professionally modeled by Bella
and Jonathan!). Mrs Forster has a couple of
samples if you wish to have a look; these coats are
priced at 17.50.
Mrs Forster will order any uniform for you. Please
make sure orders are in by Monday 20th October.
PARENT HELPERS
If you can spare an hour or two, we would love you
to come and help in school. We are always looking
for help with reading, art, etc. Please dont feel you
need any special skills - we will help you with this.
Patience, a smile and your time is what we would
really value. Please see your childs class teacher
if you think you can help.
ADDITIONAL CLUB
Rev Hughes is offering an additional club to children who are interested in learning more about
stories in the Bible. The club will start this Thursday, after school. Please book a place through the
school office.
FUNDRAISING
Following the success of the Macmillans Coffee morning, there are quite a lot of children who have
caught the bug in raising money. I have been approached asking if they can sell cakes, toys,
bands, etc. I am very keen to support their enthusiasm and the charities they are passionate
about. I am also mindful of not asking for too many donations coming into school and requesting
money for children to spend. I am trying to achieve a balance and will also try to space these
events out during the year. I certainly cannot knock the enthusiasm - its great!
SICKNESS
I feel we are coming out of the sickness spate that has affected so many children. I appreciate the
time you have kept children off school to get better and prevent the spread of infection.
