This document provides information about pond aeration and discusses different aeration methods. It states that aeration adds oxygen to pond water by introducing air, which is important for ponds deeper than 6 feet and can prevent issues like algae growth and fish gasping for air. Diffused aeration, using air diffusers on the pond bottom, is identified as the best method to aerate deep ponds by oxygenating water from top to bottom, unlike surface aeration methods. The document also describes an Aquaculture Aeration Module using diffusers that can significantly increase fish or shrimp yields in aquaculture ponds.

-Have you seen your fish gasping for oxygen at the top of your pond? -Are you having unsightly algae problems in your pond? -Does your pond appear to be stagnate and lifeless? If you have answered yes to any of the above questions or want to improve your water quality read this info!
WHAT IS POND AERATION?
Aeration is the term that we use to mean adding air to the water. Because air contains 20% oxygen aeration adds oxygen to the water. If you have answered yes to any of the questions above your problem may be due to insufficient levels of oxygen in your pond. Ponds that are deeper than 6 ft. simply are not capable of producing significant levels of oxygen at those depths. Below is an illustration that will show you the problem:
Pond with no oxygen
The good health of a pond is held in a delicate balance. A ponds condition deteriorates when its bottom environment cannot support animal life. The bottom is the area that runs out of oxygen first (the bottom is where the most oxygen is used and is the farthest from the surface where it is replenished). The absence of oxygen kill all of the bottom dwelling animals that help keep a pond clean. The loss of these animals (snails, mussels, worms, etc.) will greatly reduce the ponds ability to clean itself.
Nutrients (fish waste, grass clippings, dead algae, etc.) cause most water quality problems. Nutrients are cleaned from a ponds bottom by the small bottom dwelling animals mentioned above. When these animals do not exist the nutrients accumulate on the bottom forming a layer of muck which serves as fertilizer for weeds and algae. If a pond is allowed to get seriously infested with weeds, herbicide treatment may be the only way to gain control. The idea is to prevent such infestation in the first place. Natural water cleanup through aeration offers preventative maintenance, reducing sediment before more serious problems arise.
A POND WITHOUT AERATION
A POND WITH AERATION
Pond Aeration By pumping compressed air out into a pond or lake bed aerator an air diffuser that produces tiny air bubbles the rising air bubbles bring bottom water to the surface where it is exposed to the atmosphere. Large volumes of water thus lose bad gasses to the atmosphere and the water picks up even more oxygen while on the surface
Surface Splashers Vs. Diffused Pond Aeration
Surface Splashers include but are not limited to the following: * Fountains * Water Pumps * Propeller type
-Look at the illustration below and notice how a diffuser will saturate the entire pond with oxygen and not just the surface. Unfortunately , as you can see the surface units expose just surface water to the atmosphere. NOT deep water.
WITH OTHER AERATORS, WATER AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POND DOES NOT HAVE OXYGEN VS.
WITH A DIFFUSED AERATOR THE ENTIRE POND RECEIVES ADEQUATE AERATION.
-Fountains are a popular choice when a decorative aerator is desired. Fountains splash the surface of the pond and help control surface algae and duckweed, but do not aerate down to the bottom in deep ponds. They are recommended for ponds with a max depth of 5 or less, otherwise diffused aeration will always be a more effective means of aeration.
-Diffused pond aeration is the best way to aerate deep ponds. Because the air diffuser lays on the bottom you achieve total pond aeration from top to bottom regardless of depth. ECOSAFE SOLUTIONS Aquaculture Aeration Module (ESAAM)
ESAAM is the most efficient method of aeration in aquaculture ponds, maintaining proper oxygen levels and reducing ammonia (muck) generated by aquatic animals at the bottom.
The advantages are phenomenal for aquaculture ponds and due to balanced and effective aeration the yield in terms of quality and quantity of shrimp/ fish is at least 1.5 times and in some cases upto 3 times, depends on factors like shrimp density, type of water, etc..
We recommend minimum of 1 module per 1 acre pond (about 1.5 mtr depth). However, as it does not cover entire area, it is more effective at the point of installation. It is recommended to have 4 to 6 modules and run intermittently. Another option would be to have 2 modules on a float with self-sinking hoses. Each Module comprises of:
A Turbine blower of 150 cum/hr capacity at 0.2 kg/sq.cm. These turbine blowers are very effective for low capacities and are based on GAST Design of USA. Not much of moving parts or maintenance. Can be used for continuous run, although for aquaculture ponds, we suggest intermittent periodic breaks.
2 HP motor 2900 rpm directly coupled with the shaft of the blower.
16 Nos. ECOTUBE 2010 E diffusers
OR 24 Nos. ECOTUBE 316 diffusers
Drop Pipes (PVC) running in four directions, each direction running approximately 6 meters, each line with 4 diffusers.
Service saddles, elbows, etc as required.
How to install?
Depending on the geometry of the aquaculture pond, a pillar has to be laid at the centre, over which a small platform can be constructed for installing the blower. From this blower, drop pipes can be fixed in four directions, by attaching dead weights (RCC blocks). 4 Nos. ECOTUBE diffusers or 6 Nos. ECODISC diffusers shall be fitted to each pipe. The suggested Bill of Materials and Layout are attached.
Operation
The growth of aquatic animals was found phenomenal when the DO (Dissolved oxygen) levels in the water is maintained at 4 to 8 mg/l. In the first fortnight of installation (continuous run), the oxygen transferred would take care of the demand in BOD, COD, NH 4 -N etc in the water. The DO levels would be in the range 0.5 to 1.5 mg/l. After a month or so the required DO levels will be achieved. Then the system can be run intermittently 2:1 hours during day and continuously between 22:00 to 05:00 hours. Use of enzymes (such as our ECOZYME 11 Giga would be much beneficial along with diffused aeration.
We can supply and install the modules anywhere in India. However, it would be cheaper if you procure the diffusers from us and procure rest of the items and install on your own. We shall support with installation instructions.

Features
EPDM / Silicone blends ensure that membranes are more flexible and inflatable. The unique "|" slit design prevents back flow. When the blower is put off, the membrane dis-inflates and regains is smooth surface and does not allow ingress of particles.
The air flows and distributes only thro the two openings of the specially designed hub. Suitable for easy Retrievable arrangement - even without evacuating the tank. Convenient for Fixed type and Floating lateral type installations also.
