INT. OLD ANTIQUE SHOP. MIDNIGHT
Inside of an antique shop displays a room with a cabinet
full of closed paper fans tied with ribbons. It is believed
they cannot be opened.
In the background, can be heard a curator/shop owner
switching the lights off.
CUT TO:
Antique Clock. As the lights go out, the clock strikes
midnight. The Fans begin to untie themselves and spread
open.
CUT TO:
[Camera Pans across fan display]
The fans display different designs; Mountains, ocean waves,
blossom trees, birds, fish. The designs begin to come to
life, as if momentarily frozen in time, and as if designs
were projected onto the fans.
[Camera pans to the far left of the display]
On a fan sits Two Koi Carp in a swimming position, frozen.
The fish come to life and swim playfully together.
On the top of the display box sits a huge paper fan,
displaying a large Crane. The Crane awakens and is ready for
food.
The Crane breaks away from its fan, becoming a physical
bird, to hunt. The rest of the designs remain in their fans.
The Crane patrols the area, looking for prey. It begins to
pick berries from one of the fans. The berries come out of
the fan as if they are real berries. It suddenly spots the
coy carp fan, and dives in.
CUT TO:
INT. KOI CARP FAN - CONTINUOUS
As the Coy carp are swimming together, The Crane swoops in
to grab the fish. One CARP manages to escape the struggle,
but the other fish gets carried away in the cranes mouth. He
swoops away.

ANTIQUE CLOCK. The clock moves from midnight to 1am.
[Camera pans to one of the fans, which closes slightly as
the clock strikes.]
CARP is in a panic. It begins to swim downwards to try and
jump out to rescue his love. He jumps so high he out of his
fan, and falls into the fan beside him - a blossom tree fan.
CUT TO:
INT. BLOSSOM TREE FAN - CONTINUOUS
The fish tries to swing his way out by latching onto a
branch with its mouth, and into the next fan.
INT. OCEAN WAVE FAN - CONTINUOUS
The next fan is an image of the ocean - The fish struggles
to fight the current. The clock strikes again - and the
strike creates a wave which pushes him out of the fan.
INT. ANTIQUE SHOP - CONTINUOUS
CARP lands on top of a passing by birds, and carried into
their fan; where a wind blows cherry blossom flower petals
and the fish along with it, and blows up to the top of the
display, into the Cranes fan.
CUT TO:
ANTIQUE CLOCK. The clock strikes again - this time, 4am.
[Camera zooms into the clock at 6am, signalling that that is
when the fans will close completely]
The strike causes the blossoms to blow in the wind, and
carry the CARP out of the fan and into the CRANES fan.
INT. CRANE FAN - CONTINUOUS
CARP drops into a nest created by the Crane. The crane is
not around. CARP sees his love in the nest also, looking
weak. Both fish exchange looks and are exited to be reunited
again.
CUT TO:
ANTIQUE CLOCK. The clock strikes 5am.
The CRANES fan is almost closed. Inside view of the fan
shows the two fish lay together in the nest lovingly.
The other fish eyes begin to close. CARP, who has grown weak

Tails linked.
CUT TO:
ANTIQUE CLOCK. The clock finally strikes 6am.
The CRANE, who was out patrolling, swoops to get back into
its fan, but crashes into it as it finally shuts tight.
A shot of the whole display shows the fans shut and ribbons
refasten around them.
CRANE freezes, and rips in half like paper, and falls to the
ground.
