ABSTRACT
Serbia has a great potential for the development of spa tourism, which is represented, among
other things, numerous medicinal waters are characterized by diverse and rich chemical
composition, and thus a wide range of therapeutic properties applicable in balneology. Spas are
rare and irreplaceable national treasure, a precious natural, and recreational and tourism potential,
the comparative advantages of European importance. Should be the basis for development of
tourism in Serbia, because they represent an inexhaustible potential. It is necessary to establish a
plan for their future economic and social development, and tourism development plan, in order to
maintain their place in Serbia in order to improve its position in the European market. However,
the degree of development of spas and degree evaluation of their tourist value, behind the right
opportunities. Many authors agree with the fact that the spa tourism in Serbia missed opportunity.
But what prevents the maximum utilization balneological wealth Serbia and their complete tourist
valorization? It is the subject of this paper point out the primary and the primary problems facing
the Serbian spa tourism. Special attention is devoted to examining and defining the most
important tasks for improving the spa tourism in Serbia. Basically, the biggest problem faced by

spa tourism of our country is its extreme sezoninost and lack of openness to international
markets and the influx of foreign tourists.
