Intent of Specification
This specification is intended to cover Internal Electrification for the building. It is not the intent to specify completely herein all aspects of design and constructional features of equipment and details of the work to be carried out, nevertheless, the equipment and work shall conform in all respects to high, standards of Engineering, design and workmanship and shall be capable of performing in continuous commercial operation in a manner acceptable to the owner who will interpret the meaning of the specifications and drawings and shall have right to reject or accept any equipment or work which in this assignment is not complete to meet the requirements of this specification and/or applicable Codes and standards mentioned elsewhere in the specifications.
Scope of Work
The scope of work under this specification shall include Design, Fabrication, Supply, Storage, Erection, Testing and Commissioning of following items for complete internal electrification of building:
(a) LT Distribution Boards (b) Lighting Panels (c) Lighting/Power Distribution System for the building complete with wires, conduits, switch/socket outlet boxes,switches,sockets, Lighting fixtures, fans, Receptacles and accessories etc. (d) LT Power Cables/wires from Main distribution board to Lighting panels (e) Earthing & Lightning Protection System (f) Any other work required for complete electrification
The scope of work shall also include all civil works associated with erection of Distribution boards, Lighting panels and conduit either concealed in walls or ceiling, switch boxes, receptacles, earthing & lightning protection system etc. Minor Civil Works like fixing of anchor bolts clamps, cleats and breaking of walls / floor for installing conduits /cables/earthing conductors etc. and sealing of walls / floors afterwards shall also be included in the bidders scope.
Materials and components not specifically stated in these specification but are necessary for operation of the systems, mentioned therein shall be deemed to have been included in the scope of work of these specifications. Whether called for specifically or not, all accessories, hardware and services required for normal satisfactory testing, commissioning, operation of equipment/system shall be deemed to be included in the contractors scope and cost of these shall be included in unit rates quoted by the Contractor.
The Electrical Contractor shall also obtain at his cost all the sanctions from relevant authorities such as installation checked and approved by the Electrical Inspector or from any other authority if required, on behalf of the owner.
The tender drawings show the lighting layout and electrical distribution of various areas of the building in general. However, the detailed electrical layouts, circuit diagrams, conduit layouts etc. for construction shall be prepared by the contractor and submitted for owners site Engineer approval during detailed engineering. be the responsibility of the contractor to estimate the quantities of conduits, wires and other equipment/materials etc. correctly as per approved layouts/drawings.
The contractor shall furnish all relevant drawing, data, catalogues, instructions manuals of the equipment supplied by him as per the requirements of the contract.
The contractor shall submit to owner one marked up copy and one original copy of all as built drawings after installation of the lighting fixtures and other equipment covered under this package for effecting any changes in the originals. This work shall be done immediately after completion of erection work in a particular area. Price quoted by the contractor shall be inclusive of furnishing of the above drawings.
General Information
The design and workmanship shall be in accordance with the best Engineering practices to ensure satisfactory performance and service life as specified herein.
Contractor shall provide adequate and capable manpower and supervision for electrical installation work covered under this contract. The staff provided shall be adequate to provide detailed supervision at each stage / site of the work and shall be licensed to handle respective jobs to satisfy the requirements of the electric supply and other connected authorities.
The Contractor shall have to clean all equipment under erection, as well as the work area and site at regular intervals to the satisfaction of the owner/Engineer. In case the cleaning is not to Owners satisfaction, he will have the right to carry out the cleaning operations and expenditure incurred by the Owner in this regard will be to the Contractors account.
Types and makes of all the bought out electrical items shall be subject to NTPCS approval.
Storage Cum Erection Insurance
All the equipment and material being supplied by the Contractor shall be kept completely insured by the Contractor at his cost from the time of dispatch from the manufacturers works up to the completion of erection, testing and commissioning at site and taking over by the Owner.
It will be the responsibility of the contractor to lodge, pursue and settle all claims with the insurance company in case of any damage, loss, theft, flood, earthquake, pilferage or fire etc. and the owner shall be kept informed about it. The losses, if any, will have to be borne by the Contractor, if the claims are not lodged and pursued properly or in time or if the same are not settled by the Insurance Company.
Site Conditions
All equipments shall be designed for an ambient temperature of 50 deg. C. and 100% Relative Humidity. It is the responsibility of the contractor to survey the site and acquaint himself to prevailing site conditions before quoting. Failure on this account shall not relieve the contractor of his responsibility to execute the contract to suit the site conditions.

Technical Requirements LT Distribution boards Codes and Standards Distribution boards & components shall conform to the requirements of the latest revisions including amendments of the following codes and standards:
IS: 8623 Specification for factory built assemblies of switchgear and control gear for voltages upto and including 1000V AC/1200V DC. IS: 13947-I General requirements for switchgear and control gear for voltages not exceeding 1000V. IS: 13947-I Degree of Protection provided by enclosures for low Voltage switchgear and control gear.
IS: 10118 Code of practice for selection,installation and maintenance of Switchgear & control gear IS: 9224 HRC Cartridge fuses. IS: 13947 Air break switches, Air break disconnectors, Air break disconnector and fuse combination units for voltages not exceeding 1000 V AC or 1200V DC. IS: 6005 Code of practice for phosphating of iron & steel.
General Description
(a) The panel shall be metal enclosed, single front, indoor, floor/wall mounted with compartmentalized construction type. The panel shall be designed for a degree of protection of IP 52. The panel height shall not exceed 2100mm. In case, horizontal bus bars at the top are provided, panel height up to 2450mm is also permitted.
(b) The panel shall be fabricated using pressed and shaped cold rolled sheet steel of thickness not less than 2.0mm. Frames shall be enclosed by cold rolled sheet steel of thickness not less than 1.6mm. Doors and covers shall also be of cold rolled sheet steel of thickness not less than 1.6mm. Stiffeners shall be provided wherever necessary.
(c) All cut outs & covers shall be provided with synthetic rubber gaskets.
(d) The panel shall be divided into distinct vertical sections each comprising of
i) A completely enclosed bus bar compartment for running horizontal and vertical bus bars.
ii) Completely enclosed switchgear compartment one for each circuit for housing Switchfuse unit etc.
iii) A compartment alley for power and control cables of atleast 175 mm width covering entire height.
(e) The front of each compartment shall be provided with the hinged single leaf door with locking facilities.

(f) Provision for installing Energymeters inside the panel on all outgoing feeders for Residential buildings and on incoming feeder for other buildings or as specified in BOQ/Drawings.
(g) Panel shall be provided with suitable fixing facilities.
(h) Isolators & switch fuse units shall be of fixed type, each feeder shall have compartmentalized construction.
(i) Cable entry shall be from bottom / top as required
(j) The panel shall be provided with three phase buses and a neutral bus bar of aluminium sections throughout the length of switchgear panel and shall be adequately supported and braced. Maximum temperature rise of bus bars and bus bar connections while carrying rated current shall not exceed 40 degree C. over an ambient of 50 degree C.
(k) The minimum clearance in air between phases and between phase and earth for the entire run of bus bars, bus bar connections shall be 25mm. Bus bar support insulators shall be made of non hygroscopic non combustible track resistant & high strength type sheet moulded compound or equivalent type fibre glass moulded material.
(l) All busbars shall be colour coded as per IS: 375.
(m) A galvanized steel earth bus shall be provided at the bottom of the panel throughout the length. The size of GI bus shall be equal to half the cross sectional area of phase bus.
(n) The outgoing feeders shall be switchfuse units or moulded case circuit breakers(MCCBs). Air break switches shall be of heavy duty, single throw, group operated AC 22 category load break fault make type when associated with fuses and suitable for 3 phase 415 V supply complying with IS: 4046. Switch operating handle shall be provided with padlocking facilities to lock them in off position. Interlocks shall be provided such that, it is possible to open the cubicle door only when the switch is in off position. MCCBs shall conform to IS:13947(Part-2) in all respects. MCCBs shall be suitable for 3 phase 415V or single phase 230V AC. MCCBs shall be of thermomagnetic or static release type.
(o) All fuses shall be of HRC cartridge fuse link type and shall be rated for 80 KA rms breaking capacity at 415V AC..
(p) The neutral link shall be mounted on fuse carriers which shall be mounted on fuse bases.
(q) Indicating lamps shall be of the panel mounting, Cluster LED type and shall have escutcheon plates marked with its function wherever necessary. The colour of the translucent lamp cover shall be Red for ON and Green for OFF.

Name Plates and Labels
(a) Panel and all modules shall be provided with prominent, engraved identification plates. The module identification plate shall clearly give the feeder number and feeder designation.
(b) All name plates shall be of non rusting metal or 3 Ply lamicoid with white engraved lettering on black background. Inscriptions and lettering sizes shall be subject to Owners approval.
(c) Suitable stenciled paint mark shall be provided inside the panel/module identification of all equipment in addition to the plastic sticker tables, if provided. These labels shall be positioned so as to be clearly visible and shall have the device number, as mentioned in module wiring drawings.
Power Cables/Conduits Termination
(a) Cable termination compartment and arrangement for power cables shall be suitable for 1100 V grade standard aluminium conductor, armoured, PVC insulated and sheathed. cables.
(b) All necessary cable terminating accessories such as Gland plates, supporting clamps and brackets, power cable lugs, hardware etc. shall be provided by the contractor and to be included in the quoted price of Distribution Board.
(c) The gland plates shall be removable type and shall cover the entire cable alley. Bidder shall ensure that sufficient space is provided for all cable glands. For all single core cables, gland plates shall be of non magnetic material.
(d) Suitable arrangement and space shall be provided for connection of outgoing feeders in conduits, if required.
Painting
All sheet steelwork shall be pretreated, in tanks, in accordance with IS:6005. The phosphate coating shall be Class-C as specified in IS:6005. The phosphated surfaces shall be rinsed and passivated prior to application of stoved lead oxide primer coating. After primer application, Electrostatic powder painting shall be applied. Finishing paint shade shall be RAL 9002 unless otherwise required by the owner.The paint thickness shall not be less than 50 microns. Finished parts shall be coated by pealable compound by spraying method to protect the finished surfaces from scratches, grease dirt and oily spots during testing, transportation, handing and erection. All hardware shall be Nickle/Cadmium plated. The pad locking plate shall also be suitably painted to avoid rusting.
Lighting Panels
Lighting panels shall be metal enclosed,single front, indoor, recess/surface mounting type. constructed out of 1.2 mm thick CRCA sheet steel. The main door shall be hinged and the panel shall be gasketted with degree of protection of IP-42. The panel shall be provided with terminal blocks for incoming and outgoing circuits, earthing terminals, M.S. mounting brackets suitable for surface mounting on

wall/column/structure(as applicable), latching arrangement for door,circuit directory plate & circuit diagram fitted on the inside of the door etc. Removable gland plates shall be provided for entry of cables/conduits. The quoted price of Lighting panel shall include cable glands and lugs of suitable sizes for all incoming & outgoing feeders.
Wiring inside the panel shall be carried out with 1100 V grade. PVC insulated stranded copper wires of adequate size. On both ends of each wire engraved identification ferrules shall be provided.
The Lighting panels shall be of three phase or single phase type with incoming Isolator/ELCB and outgoing MCBs as per requirement. All MCBs/ ELCBs/ Isolators/Switches etc. shall be mounted inside the panel with the front cover. Only the operating knobs of Isolators/ELCBs/MCBs etc., shall project out of the front cover, through neatly machine made opening, for safe operation against accidental contact. The front cover with Isolators/ELCBs/MCBs shall be covered by the hinged main door. The busbars shall be made of solid electrolytic copper of appropriate cross-section with plug-in or bolted type Isolators/ELCBs/ MCBs. Neutral busbars shall be provided for adequate no. of terminals as required. An earth bar of similar size as the neutral bar shall also be provided. Phase barriers shall be fitted and all live parts shall be adequately covered by the front cover. Adequate clearance shall be provided between phases and between phase & earth.
Equipment mounted inside the panel shall be provided with individual labels with equipment designation/rating. Main door of the panel shall be provided with label engraved with designation of the panel as furnished by the employer. Labels shall be made of 3 ply lamicoid/engraved PVC having white letters on black background.
Adequate space shall be provided for terminating incoming & outgoing cables/wires. Terminal bocks shall be of 750 V grade, clip-on stud type for cables and screw type moulded in melamine for wires, suitable for terminating multicore stranded aluminium/copper conductor cables/wires of the required sizes for incoming/outgoing feeders. All terminals shall be shrouded, numbered and provided with identification strip for the feeders.
MCBs shall be current limiting type with magnetic and thermal release suitable for manual closing and automatic tripping under fault condition. MCBs shall have short circuit interrupting capacity of 9 KA rms. MCB knob shall be marked with ON/OFF indication. A trip free release shall be provided to ensure tripping on fault even if the knob is held in ON position. MCB terminal shall be shrouded to avoid accidental contact.
The exterior side of panel, shall be powder coated with smoke grey, shade RAL9002 and the interior side of the panels shall be white.
ELCBs shall be Electro-mechanical, self immuned type having inbuilt filter to avoid nuisance tripping.

Cable glands & lugs
The cost of cable glands and lugs shall be included in the quoted price of the respective Distribution Board/Lighting Panel for which these are to be provided for termination of cables/wires.
Cable glands shall be of compression type, made of tin plated heavy duty brass castings & machine finished. Glands shall be of robust construction capable of clamping cable & cable armour, firmly without injury to the cable. All washers & hardware shall be made of brass tinned. Rubber components used in the glands shall be made of neoprene/ synthetic rubber of tested quality.
Cable lugs shall be aluminium alloy solderless crimping type conforming to IS:8309 suitable for aluminium conductors. Crimping of terminals shall be done by using corrosion inhabitory compound. Cable lugs for copper cables shall be made of tinned copper and shall be provided with insulating sleeve.
Cables & Wires
LT Power cables shall be of 1.1KV grade, multicore, stranded aluminium Conductor ,PVC insulated, PVC innersheathed, unarmoured, PVC outersheathed conforming to IS:1554(Part-1).
PVC wires shall be of 1.1 KV grade, PVC insulated, single core, stranded, copper / aluminium conductor conforming to IS:694. The wires shall be colour coded for R.Y.B. phases and neutral.
Receptacles
Receptacles shall be fabricated out of MS sheet of 2mm thick and hot dip galvanised or of die-cast aluminium alloy of thickness not less than 2.5 mm. The boxes shall be provided with two nos. earthing terminals, and gasket to achieve degree of protection, terminal block for loop-in loop-out, of wire/cable of specified size, mounting brackets suitable for surface mounting on wall/column/structure, conduit entry/gland plate etc. Thedegree of protection for 63A, 415V,TPN receptacle shall be IP-55. The On/OFF switches shall be rotary type, heavy duty, double break, AC 23 category, suitable for AC supply.
Plug & socket shall be of shrouded die-cast aluminium. Socket shall be provided with lid safety cover. Robust mechanical interlock shall be provided for receptacles type RA such that the switch can be put ON only when the plug is fully engaged and plug can be withdrawn only when the switch is in Off position. Wiring inside the box shall be carried out with 1100 V grade PVC insulated stranded aluminium/copper wire of adequate size. The terminal block shall be of 750 V grade, clip on/ stud type, moulded in Melamine, suitable for terminating cables of suitable sizes. All the terminals shall be shrouded. The rating of receptacles shall be 63A,415V,TPN,5-pin or 20A,240V,SPN,3-pin as per BOQ.

Switches & Socket outlets
Lighting Switches/ Boxes
(a) The switch boxes shall be of bent steel construction, fabricated of 1.6 mm thick M.S.Sheets. The boxes shall be hot-dip galvanized. The switch boxes shall be provided with earth terminal.
(b) The switch boxes shall be flush mounted in walls.
(c) The switch boxes shall have conduit knock-out on all four sides.
(d) Switches shall be of decorative modular type having quick-make, quick-break mechanism, provided with position marking.The switches shall be suitable for single phase, 240V, 50 Hz, supply and shall be suitable for terminating two wires of 1.5 sq.mm. in each bore.
Socket outlets/ Boxes
(a) Socket outlet box shall consist of modular socket outlet with associated switch. The socket outlet and switch shall be flush mounted on a box which shall be suitable for recessed mounting into walls.
(b) The socket outlet boxes shall be fabricated from 1.6mm thick M.S.Sheets. The boxes shall be hot dip galvanized. The boxes shall have conduit knock- outs on all sides. The socket outlet box shall have one earth terminal.
Conduits & Accessories
PVC conduits shall fully conform to IS:9537(part-3) 1983.
The conduit shall be of approved make suitable for medium duty.
The conduits shall be straight and to be supplied in standard length.The manufacturers name shall be stamped on each length.
All accessories / fittings required for making the conduits installation complete, including but not limited to couplers, bends, ordinary and inspection tees and elbows, reducers, enlargers, male and female bushings, G.I. wires for cable/ wire pulling, terminal boxes, & pull out boxes complete with glands, gaskets and covers, plugs, saddles, clips, spacing plates, nuts, bolts and screws, other clamping materials and all necessary supporting steel work shall be supplied by the contractor alongwith the conduits. The requirements of these shall be estimated based on the conduit layout drawings prepared by the Contractor and approved by the Owner. The price of the accessories / fittings shall be included in the erection price of items quoted. Conduit accessories shall be of PVC. Conduits shall be joined together by a vinyle type cement/solvent. Minimum size of the conduit shall be 20mm.For termination of PVC conduits into switch/outlet/junction boxes,PVC female adopters shall be used. Conduits shall be bent using springs of suitable size. Long radius bends shall be provided. Heating shall not be used to bend the conduits. Size of conduit shall depend upon number & sizes of wires to be drawn.
The terminal boxes/pulL boxes shall be of circular/rectangular shape made of PVC.The boxes shall be complete with conduit knock outs/adaptors etc.Cover plates

Equipment Erection
General
The erection work shall include receipt at site, unloading, handling, storing, unpacking, and installation of all electrical equipments alongwith supply of all mounting accessories such as fixing brackets, clamps, anchors, wedges, nuts and bolts, concrete inserts etc. consumables and other incidental materials required to complete the installation, testing and commissioning of the Electrical system for successful operation and to the satisfaction of Owner. The contractor shall provide all supervision, labour tools and rigging materials.
The entire work shall be carried out in accordance with Construction drawings(prepared by Contractor and approved by Owner),specified installation instructions, manufacturers recommendations and/or as directed by the Owner. Manufacturers drawings and instructions shall be correctly followed in handling, setting,, testing and commissioning of all equipment and care shall be exercised in handling to avoid distortion to structures marring of finished surface damaging of delicate instruments or other electrical parts.
The equipment shall be installed in a neat work-man like manner so that it is level- plumb, square and properly aligned and oriented. Adjustments shall be made as necessary to the stationary structures for plump and level, for the sake of appearance or to avoid twisting of frames, bending of hinged members etc. Tolerances shall be as established in manufacturers drawings or as stipulated by the Owner.
The erection work shall conform to the latest applicable Indian Standards, codes and practices. Electricity Rules, Fire Insurance Regulations and safety regulations of the locality where the equipment will be installed. All apparatus, wiring and connections shall be designed so as to minimize risk of fire or any damage which will be caused in the event of fire.
The contractor shall work in co-ordination with civil and mechanical contractors and where holes or openings in walls and floors, cut-outs in false ceiling are required the contractor shall inform the owner and other concerned contractors well in advance.
The contractor shall be responsible for any loss or damage to Lighting fixtures, lamps, Distribution boards, lighting panels etc. during installation. All damages & thefts shall be made good by the Contractor till the installation is handed over to the owner.
The contractor shall note that for any change in the location of Distribution Boards, panels, lighting fixtures, switches,socket outlets etc. no extra charges will be paid, in case the modifications are informed to the Contractor before commencement of the work on that particular equipment or circuit.
Except as specifically approved by the Engineer-in-Charge installation of exposed conduit, mounting of lighting fixtures etc. shall be taken up only after other services

such as piping, air ducting, cable tray/bus duct hangers, structural bracing etc. in a particular area, have been installed.
After installation of lighting fixtures/socket outlets, panel number and circuit number shall be painted on them at a suitable place in non-residential buildings.
Lighting Fixtures, Fans and Accessories
The type of fixture mounting will generally be indicated on the layout drawing. The exact mounting will however be decided at site depending upon the actual space/other facilities available at site.
Wooden plugs in walls and ceilings for fixing of lighting fixtures and accessories are not acceptable. A suitable fool-proof method (preferably using nylon rawl plug) for fixing these shall be offered and this shall be subject to the Owners approval.
Flood lights shall be mounted on steel base facing the tentative direction shown on drawings. Fixing holes shall be provided with slot to turn the fixtures by about 5 degree on both sides. Bolts shall be tightened with spring washers. Terminal connection to the flood lights shall be made through flexible conduits.
In the rooms, where false ceilings are provided, the lighting fixtures shall be supported separately from roof slab and not from false ceiling. The erection rate of lighting fixtures shall include the supply of all steel brackets, supporting, anchoring material and hardware, also steel brackets/hangers for bridging the gap above false ceiling etc. required for installation of lighting fixtures.
Distribution Boards & Lighting Panels
Distribution Boards including Meter Boards, shall be mounted on wall/floor and Lighting Panels shall be mounted on the walls/columns/steel structures at the locations indicated in the drawings.
Lighting Panels shall be installed by fastening to studs of not less than 12mm dia which will be suitably grouted/welded to the wall/column by the Contractor.
The erection rate of Dist.Boards/Lighting panels shall include the supply of all steel brackets, supporting, anchoring material and hardware and required accessories for the erection of the panel.
Lighting Switches/ Boxes & Socket outlets/ Boxes
The locations of switch/socket outlet boxes shall be tentatively shown on the drawings. The exact location shall be finalized by the Contractor in consultation with the Engineer-in-Charge.
All switches/socket outlets shall be flush mounted in the wall.
Unless otherwise noted on the drawings, the height of the following fixtures/accessories, from finished floor level, shall be as follows:
(a) Lighting panels - 1500mm

Spacing of embedded conduits shall permit flow of concrete between them and in no case shall be less than 40mm.
For direct embedding in soil, GI/PVC pipe shall be used. Concrete pier or anchor shall be provided, where necessary, to support the GI pipe rigidly and to hold it in place.
For long conduit runs, junction/pull boxes shall be provided at suitable intervals (not exceeding 10 m) to facilitate wiring.
Conduits shall be securely terminated at LPs /junction boxes of lighting fixtures/fans/call bells by proper fastening with a lock nut on inside and outside. The number of conduits terminating at LPs shall not exceed the permissible number considering the glanding area of lighting panel. Conduit terminations shall be made water and vermin proof.
Conduits shall be cleanly cut. Cut ends shall be reamed and all burrs and sharp edges removed.
After installation the conduits shall be cleaned before pulling in the wire.
Conduits and fittings shall be properly protected during construction period against mechanical injury. Conduit ends shall be plugged or capped to prevent entry of foreign materials.

Lighting fixtures shall not be suspended directly from the junction box in the main conduit run.
Cabling/Wiring
The cables/wires from Distribution boards to Lighting panels shall be laid on cable trays/clamped on wall/in GI/PVC conduits of required size, as per BOQ. The wires from lighting panels to switch/socket outlet boxes and switch boxes to lighting fixtures/Fan boxes/call bells shall run in conduits.
All wires in a conduit shall be drawn simultaneously. No subsequent drawing is permissible.
Wires shall not be pulled through more than two equivalent 90 degree bends in a single conduit run. Wherever required, suitable conduit pull boxes shall be provided. All types of wiring concealed or unconcealed shall be accessible of easy inspection.
Power Sockets and lighting circuits shall be fed from different circuits.The switch controlling these circuits shall be on the live side (phase wire) of the circuit.
Separate conduits shall be used for light, power, telephone & T.V. circuits.
Wiring shall be spliced only at terminal blocks. Maximum of two wires shall be connected at each terminal. Terminal blocks shall be of 650V grade screw type moulded in melamine suitable for loop-in loop-out of upto 4 sqmm stranded copper wires and tap off of 1.5 sqmm copper wire.
In vertical run of wires in conduit, the wires shall be suitably supported by means of hard rubber plugs at each pull/terminal box.
1100V grade, PVC insulated wires of different size shall be used for following purposes:
(a)Light Fixture / fan (ceiling, wall 2.5 mm2 stranded Cu bracket,exhaust)/call bell / 5 A socket Conductor (Point wiring from switches onwards) (b) Circuit wiring for light points 4 mm2 Stranded Cu (from lighting panel to switch box) Conductor (c) Single power socket (15A) 4 mm2 stranded Cu conductor (d) Two power sockets (15A) 6 mm2 stranded Cu. conductor
All lighting wires of more than 6 sq.mm. size shall be crimped using suitable type of solderless, crimping, tinned fork type copper lugs.
There shall be maximum of two power points on each circuit. Wiring for first point shall be carried out with 2x6sqmm copper wire while for the second point, it shall be carried out with 2x4 sqmm copper wires. Wiring for first point include wiring from lighting panel to first point and the wiring for second point shall include wiring from first point to second point.

Point wiring shall include the cost of conduits, wires, earth wire, switch/socket outlet boxes, switches, cover plates, terminal boxes alongwith connectors, pull boxes all hardware & accessories etc. as required to complete the installation.
Point wiring shall include the following:
(a) Wiring from lighting panel to switch board/socket outlet. (b) Switchboard & switches, socket outlets with cover plates (c) Wiring from switch board to light/fan/socket/bell including earth wire etc. (d) All necessary PVC conduits,fittings with accessories.
Separate switch boxes/socket outlet boxes shall be provided for different circuits. Power & lighting circuits, should not be mixed up in the same switch box/socket outlet box.
Each circuit shall have independent neutral wire complete upto outlet box and switch box.
Earthing of the third pin shall be included in the point wiring of socket outlets. Earth pin shall be connected to socket outlet box earth terminal by flexible copper braid/wire.
In case of more than one light point controlled by the same switch, the wiring upto the terminal block or any other approved terminations of the first light point including the switch shall be considered as a primary point, loop wiring from light to light shall be considered as secondary point and the distinguishing rate shall be quoted. The maximum no. of Points controlled by one switch of 5 Amps. are as follows:
Lights, fans, 5 Amps. socket outlet and bell push etc. may be wired on a common circuit. Such sub-circuits shall not have more than a total of 8 points of lights, fans & sockets outlets. The load of each circuit shall be restricted to 800 Watts.
There shall not be more than two power socket outlets on each circuit.
Cabling Work
The cost of laying of cable shall include all clamping, fixing, crimping, drilling, cutting, fixing glands, connecting to terminal blocks, grounding etc. as required to complete the job.
Size of glands & lugs shall be as per the size of the cables/wires, selected during detailed engineering.
All cable entry points shall be sealed and made vermin & dust proof. Unused openings shall be effectively closed.
Each cable shall be tagged with the cable no. as per cable schedule. The tags shall be of rectangular shape & attached to the cable by not less than two turns of 20 SWG G.I. wire. Cable tags shall be provided at each end of the cable before entering the equipment enclosure, on both sides of wall or floor crossing and at

every 30 M of cable runs. Cost of the tags shall be included in the erection of the cables.
Cutting of slabs/beams/columns and exposing reinforcement are strictly prohibited. Contractor shall use dash fasteners of adequate strength for supports from RCC structure.
Earthing System
Earthing system shall be in accordance with IS:3043 and Indian Electricity Rules, Codes of practice and regulations existing in the location where the system is being installed.
Pipe Earth electrode for earthing station shall compriseof medium class GI pipe of 40 mm. nominal dia and 2.5 mtr. Long. Bottom half of the pipe shall have holes drilled at intervals of 7.5 cms. on its surface. Removable caps shall be provided at the top of its pipe to facilitate pouring of water. Suitable clamps shall be provided with the electrodes for connecting earth conductors. The top of the earth electrodes shall be about 100 mm below ground level. While connection to the earth conductor shall be made at 150 mm below ground level. The top portion of the electrodes shall be enclosed in 300x300x300 mm M 15 concrete housing and provide with concrete top cover and mark. Provision shall be kept at each earth station for testing resistance. Earth station shall be complete with alternate layers of charcoal and salt.
Plate Earthing shall comprise of GI plate electrode of size 600mmx600mmx6.3mm thickness. The electrode shall be buried in ground with its faces vertical and not less than 3 meters below ground level. 20mm dia. Medium class GI pipe shall be provided and attached to the electrode. A funnel with mesh shall be provided on top of this pipe for watering earth electrode. The watering funnel attachment shall be be enclosed in 300x300x300 mm M 15 concrete housing and provide with concrete top cover and mark. Provision shall be kept at each earth station for testing resistance. Earth station shall be complete with alternate layers of charcoal and salt.
GI strip of 25x6mm shall be used as earth conductor directly buried in ground & shall be provided with one coat of bituminized paint, one layer of half lapped bituminised tape and a final coat of bituminised paint to prevent corrosion.
Galvanized M.S.Saddles shall be used for clamping earth conductor on cable trays/structures/walls/ceiling etc. The saddles shall be clamped to M.S. flat spacers with tapped holes and supporting the earth conductors. Flats shall be supported at interval not exceeding 1000 mm and stranded wires at an interval of 500 mm.
As far as possible all earth terminations and connections shall be visible for inspection. Each earthing system shall be so designed that testing of individual electrode is easily possible. Connection of earthing leads to earth electrodes shall be made by means of bolting. The earth conductors shall be free from pitting, laminations, rust, scale and other electrical/mechanical defects. The material of the earthing conductors shall be galvanized steel/copper as specified.

Metallic frame of all electrical equipment shall be:
(a) Earthed by two separate and distinct connections to earthing system (b) Metallic sheaths, screens and armour of all multicore cables shall be earthed at both equipment and panel/DB. (c) Lighting fixtures, fans, socket outlets, conduits, JBs, switch boxes, socket outlet boxes shall be earthed with 18 SWG bare copper wire. Single phase Power socket outlets shall be earthed with 14 SWG bare copper wire. Three phase Receptacles shall be earthed with 8 SWG bare copper wire. (d) Distribution boards shall be earthed with 50x6mm GS.flat. (e) Lighting panels shall be earthed with 8SWG GI wire.
Neutral connections shall not be used for the equipment earthing. Metallic conduits/pipes shall not be used as earth continuity.
a) Connections between earth leads and equipment shall be normally of bolted type. Contact surface shall be thoroughly cleaned before connections. Equipment bolted connections, after being tested and checked, shall be painted with anti-corrosive paint/compound.
(b) Resistance of the joints shall not be more than the resistance of the equivalent length of conductor.
(c) All welded connections shall be made by electric arc welding with low hydrogen content electrodes.
(a) Earthing conductors buried in ground shall be laid minimum 600 mm below grade level unless otherwise indicated in the drawing. Back filling material, placed over buried conductors, shall be free from stones and harmful mixture. Back filling shall be placed in the layer of 150mm.
(b) Earthing conductors embedded in the concrete floor of the building shall have approximately 50mm concrete cover.
(c) A minimum earth coverage of 300mm shall be provided between earth conductor and the bottom of trench/foundation/underground pipes at crossings. Earthing conductors crossing the road can be installed in the hume pipes.
Normally an earth electrode shall not be situated less than 2 m from any building. The location of earth electrode shall be such where the soil has reasonable chance of remaining moist, as far as possible. Entrances, pavements, roadways and metal fence are definitely avoided, for locating the earth electrode.
Minimum spacing between electrodes shall be 6000mm.
Complete building earthing system shall be fully tested in accordance with the relevant clauses of applicable standards.
On completion of installation, continuity of earth conductors and efficiency of all bonds & joints shall be checked. Earth resistivity at earth terminations shall be measured in presence of Owners representatives. All equipment required for testing shall be furnished by contractor.

Lightning Protection System
The Lightning protection of the building shall be provided as per IS:2309. G.I.Strips of 25x6mm shall be fixed for both horizontal and vertical conductors. Galvanized M.S.Saddles shall be used for fixing the strips on parapet walls/on vertical runs. All down conductors shall be provided with Test joints. The min. size GI strips used for directly burried in ground shall be 25x6mm. The code of practice shall be as per IS:2309.
Down conductor shall be cleated on outer side of building wall, at 750mm interval or welded to outside building column at 1000mm interval.
All metallic structures, within the vicinity of 2 mtr. of any conductor of lightning protection system, shall be bonded to the conductor of lightning protection system.
Foundations & Civil Works
Equipment foundations, panel foundation and other materials as per relevant drawings and specifications clauses shall be provided by the Contractor.
Any cutting of masonry/concrete work, which is necessary shall be done by the Contractor at his own cost and shall be made good to match the original work. The contractor shall obtain approval of the Engineer before proceeding with any cutting of masonry/concrete work.
The contractor shall perform all excavation and backfilling as required for ground connections and casting foundations.
Excavation shall be performed upto the required depth.
The contractor shall make use of his own arrangement for pumping out any water that may be accumulated in the excavation.
All excavation shall be backfilled to the original level with good consolidation and surplus soil shall be disposed off as per the instruction of site engineer.
Testing of Equipment & Installation
Testing of Equipment
All equipment to be supplied shall be of type tested quality.
All acceptance and routine tests as per the specification, QA tables and relevant standards shall be carried out. Charges for these shall be deemed to be included in the equipment price.
Testing of Installation
Inspection & testing of the installation shall be carried out as per Part-1, Section 10 of the National Electrical Code 1985.

The contractor shall be responsible for providing the necessary instruments and subsidiary earth for carrying out the tests. The earth continuity test shall comply with the relevant IS Standards. In case, the results of above tests do not comply with the limits laid down, the contractor shall rectify the faults until the required results are obtained.
Field Quality Assurance Programme (FQAP)
Bidder shall furnish a FQAP for all equipment and accessories used for the Quality Assurance. The Field Quality Assurance Programme of the bidder shall generally cover the following:
(a) Organisational structure for the management and implementation of the proposed FQAP.
(b) Documentation Control System.
(c) Qualification data for Bidders key personnel.
(d) The procedure for purchase of material, parts, components and selection of sub contractors service including vendor analysis source inspection, incoming raw-material inspection, verification of material purchased etc.
(e) System for shop manufacturing controls including process controls, fabrication and assembly controls.
(f) Control of non-conforming items and system for corrective actions.
(g) Inspection and test procedure both for manufacture and field activities. (h) Control of calibration and testing of measuring and testing equipments. (i) System for indication and appraisal of inspection status. (j) System for quality audit.
(k) System for authority release of manufactured product to the owner. (l) System for handling, storage and delivery. (m) System for maintenance of records.
(n) Quality plan detailing out the specific quality control procedure adopted for controlling the quality characteristic relevant to each item or equipment furnished.
(o) System for controlling site activities i.e. receipt, storage, pre- erection, erection and commissioning.
