TIME STUDY EQUIPMENTS

TIME STUDY FORMS

DEFINITION:
It is printed forms of standard size paper on which systematic charts are made,
so that we can fill it neatly with an essential feature of well conducted time study for
reference.
Studies can be made on plane paper, but it is difficult to rule new sheets for every
study. It is more convenient to have printed forms of the standard size paper, so that
they can filed neatly for reference, an essential feature of well-conducted time study.
Printed or cyclostyled forms also ensures that time studies are always made in a
standard manner.
International standard A4 size paper is good and it is the biggest standard size
which will fit on study board. oolscap is generally found that to be a little too long.
The principal forms used in ime sud! "enerall! classified ino ino #o
"roups:
I$ !hose used at the point of observation while ma"ing the study
II$ !hose which are used after the study has been ta"en, in the time study.

I$ TIME STUDY TOP S'EET:

!his introductory sheet of study, on which is recorded all the essential information
about the study. !he elements into which the operation being studied has been bro"en
down and the brea" points used. It may also record first few cycles of the study itself.

!he fig # has spaces in the heading for all information normally re$uired about a
study e%cept the s"etch of the wor"place layout which should either be drawn on the
reverse of sheet, if the layout is very simple or should be drawn on separate sheet &
attach to the study.

It is shown in fig ' this type of forms consist of only of the colums & the space
for the study & sheet number. It is usual to print this ruling on both side of paper, on
the reverse side the heading is not necessary.

It is shown in fig 3 this is simple type of form which serves very well for most
common short cycle wor". !here are more complicated forms also adopted from one
in general use in /4I!.0 S!A!.. It may be more suitable if short cycle wor" is ruled
rather than the e%ception.

I$ +OR,IN- S'EETS:
It is used for the analyzing the reading obtained during the study & obtaining
representative time for each of the operation. As it will be seen later, there are various
ways in which the analysis may be made, each re$uiring a different ruling on the
sheet. or this reason many studymen prefer to use simple lined sheet of same size as
the study sheet for ma"ing their analysis & clipping these to the study sheet when
completed.

!his sheet as its name suggest summaries neatly all the information which has
been obtained during the course of the study with the fre$uencies of the element
occurrence. !he heading includes all the details recorded about the operation at the top
of time study top sheet. !he completed study summary sheet is clipped on the top of
the other entire study sheet & is filed with them thus it is of same size as that of
chosen for the study sheets. As shown in fig 4. It will be seen that main body of the
sheet has space for the ruling of additional columns should be needed for the
particular study being summarized.

much larger than the ordinary study form.
OT'ER EQUIPMENTS
5hen the very accurate measurement is re$uired then other e$uipments are used
instead of watch & forms given as below6
I$ MOTION PI)TURE )&MER&:

It is running at a constant speed , the film being pro7ected at an e$ual constant
speed. )nce the activity has benn filmed & the film processed it is reviewed with the
help of the pro7ector for the analysis purpose. !he pro7ector runs the film very slowly
& the the film can be stop or reversed whenever desired.
II$ TIME STUDY M&)'INE:
In this machine mar"s are made on the paper tape running at the constant speed,
by pressure of fingers on two "eys. It is only advantage over the stopwatch is that it
leaves the wor" studymen free to observe the operation continuously instead of having
to loo" at & read the watch
