Multiple Intelligence through Music by Lillie H. Feierabend

Do you know any campfire songs, sing-a-long songs, jump rope jingles, ball bouncing rhymes or hand
clapping games? If you do, then you are not only involved in music and rhythm, but you are also
developing your skills in math, language arts, social studies, science, spatial relationships, and
movement..the cornerstones of Howard Gardners Theory of Multiple Intelligences. And you thought
you were just having fun! This session will demonstrate how involvement with music can also help to
nurture, strengthen and develop a childs development in all of these intelligences.
Lillie Feierabend is known for her work with young children and for instilling a love of music within
them. This is her fourteenth year at the University of Hartford Magnet School and seventeenth as a
director for the Connecticut Childrens Chorus. In 1998 she received the Teacher of the Year Award from
Canton Schools (CT) for her innovative and inclusive music programs. In 2008, Lillie received both the
Teacher of the Year Award from UHMS and the Outstanding Elementary Music Educator Award from the
Connecticut Music Educators Association. Lillie is a frequent clinician at local, state and national
conferences and a guest conductor for regional honors choirs. She also teaches at Silver Lake College in
Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Gordon College in Boston, and The Hartt School at the University of Hartford.
She is Past President of KESNE, and a member of NAfME, OAKE, CMEA and ACDA, for which she

WORKSHOP #2: Using Academic Competitions to Extend Learning Opportunities for your Gifted Child
Academic competitions provide your children the opportunity to engage more deeply in subjects they love while giving thema chance to
learn at a level which may not be possible in the classroom. Join Anne Hunter, a mother of gifted children, to learn how and why
academic competitions can be especially beneficial to a gifted child, types of competitions available, common entry formats, how much
time these take and how you can help (and hurt) your childs chances of success. A list of well-known contests will also be provided to
attendees. Well also save time for a parents discussion with open Q&A.

Ms. Hunter has fourteen years of gifted parenting experience. She knows the ins and outs of helping kids engage in school and extra-
curricular activities to their fullest potential. Her children have used local, state and national contests to supplement their academic
efforts. She has also coached Science Bowl and Science Olympiad programs. Outside of parenting, Ms. Hunter is the SVP Global

WORKSHOP #5: Doing it All or Doing What Matters Most:
An interactive workshop to build a vision and plan that best fits YOUR family
Life is SO busy! We all know and live that. However, if we dont take action and get clear about where and how we are spending our
time, then before we know it we are not living the life that fits our family best. This workshop gives parents the opportunity to determine
what matters most to their family and design a vision and three month goal-based plan to ensure their family is living the life that best fits
them.
Kelley Biskupiak, (M.A. Literacy, Pace University), Founder and owner of Be You Bravely, launched this personal and
professional coaching firmbecause she believes strongly in empowering women and families to lead and live fulfilling lives. Kelley
works with clients to get clarity in the chaos and develop a goal-based purpose plan that can be implemented into their life. The result is
more balance and fulfillment and a life lived with purpose and meaning. As a mother of three boys, a business owner, Workshop
Facilitator, Motivational Speaker, Blogger, and an Educational Leadership Coach, Kelley has learned to "walk this talk" in her own life.
She currently works for Leadership Greater Hartford as an Educational Leadership Coach. Kelley was trained at the esteemed Coaches
