MU120111A 10/100M Ethernet Module

MU120112A Gigabit Ethernet Module

Function Upgrades (Version 2.1)
For MD1230A Data Quality Analyzer
MU120111A/MU120112A Features
OSPF Protocol (MD1230A-07)
OSPF Emulation satisfying the RFC2328 OSPF Version 2
standards can be performed by adding the optional
MD1230A-07 OSPF Protocol software. Up to 200 virtual
routers can be registered for each physical port and each of
Router-LSA, Network-LSA, Summery-LSA, AS-external-LSA,
and NSSA External-LSA can be registered for each router. As
a result, HELLO packets, Database Description packets, Link-
State Request packets, Link-State Update packets and Link-
State Acknowledgement packets are all acknowledged (send
and receive).
Note: DR and BDR operation is not supported.
MPLS (LDP/CR-LDP) Protocol (MD1230A-08)
LDP and CR-LDP emulation satisfying the RFC3036 and
RFC3212 standards can be performed by adding the option-
al MD1230A-08 MPLS (LDP/CR-LDP) Protocol software.
Adjacent LSR detection can be performed using Hello mes-
sages, LDP section establishment, and LDP message
exchange. Moreover, explicit LSPs can be specified.
MPLS (RSVP) Protocol (MD1230A-09)
RSVP and RSVP-TE emulation satisfying the RFC2205 and
RFC3209 standards can be performed by adding the option-
al MD1203A-09 MPLS (RSVP) Protocol software.
RFC2889 Benchmarking Test (MD1230A-10)
Benchmarking tests of LAN switching devices satisfying the
RFC2889 standards can be performed by adding the option-
al MD1230A-10 RFC2889 Benchmarking Test software. The
following tests can be performed.
1) Fully meshed throughput, frame loss and forwarding rates
2) Partially meshed one-to-many/many-to-one
3) Partially meshed multiple devices
4) Partially meshed unidirectional traffic
5) Congestion control

2) MLD (Multicast Listener Discovery) Emulation
3) Ping6
4) RFC2544 test using IPv6
5) IPv6 traffic monitoring and mapping
6) Sending these IPv6 protocols in transmit streams:
IPv6 over IPv4
TCP/IPv6
UDP/IPv6
ICMPv6/IPv6

routes and maintaining 200 BGP Peers in
BGP-4 emulation
2) Added IS-IS send and protocol decode functions
3) Added OSPF protocol decode function
4) Added MPLS (LDP/CR-LDP) protocol decode function
5) Added MPLS (RSVP) protocol decode function
6) IPv6 expanded header support for IPv6 send and protocol
decode functions
Support for 1000BASE-T
The new MU120112A Gigabit Ethernet module supports the
standard 1000BASE-T copper interface using the G0124A
1000BASE-T GBIC optional accessory.
Note: For 1000BASE-T, the wire speed is 1 Gbps full duplex.

Function Upgrades
Monitor Mode Function
For network equipment R&D as well as network troubleshoot-
ing, it is helpful to use the MD1230A to monitor in-service traf-
fic at full wire speed. Starting in version 2.0, using the new
MD1230A monitor mode saves time by avoiding any port set-
tings, so the monitoring is simple and trouble-free.
BER Measurement Function
The MD1230A has two BER measurement functions that are
supported by both Ethernet and POS modules.
1) Unframed BER Test
When evaluating the quality of WDM and long-distance lines
using a media converter, a bit error rate test is typically used.
A PRBS pattern is converted to 8B/10B data and sent without
an Ethernet frame (unframed). At the receive side, the PRBS
pattern is recovered and the bit error rate is measured.
Note:
An idle code and start field delimiter are inserted cyclically into the
PRBS pattern.
When option MD1230A-13 is installed, the MU120118A 10 Gigabit
Ethernet module supports a similar function.

Service Disruption Time Measurement
This function, supported from version 2.0, measures service
disruption time by computations based on the frame transmit
rate and the relationship between the numbers of received
frames vs. sent frames.
TCP/UDP Port Increment Function
A function for incrementing the port number has been added
to the UDP or TCP transmit data stream settings. The desti-
nation port number or the source port number can be set to
increment automatically.
2) Packet BER Test (MD1230A-11 option)
When measuring the bit error rate of networks using routers
and switches, it is necessary to encapsulate the PRBS pat-
tern in an Ethernet frame or IP packet. At the sending side, a
PRBS9 pattern can be sent in the data field by selecting the
MD1230A Test Frame function. At the receiving side, the
MD1230A checks the PRBS pattern in the data and reports
the PRBS bit error rate and PRBS error frame rate.
A sequence number is included in MD1230A Test Frames,
and out of order frames are counted at the receiving side.
