News From Room 207: Important Dates
I love
this time of year with the coolness in the air and the amazing
colors. We have a busy week ahead of us. Last week, your
children earned another WONDERFUL party next Friday.
They voted on a Groovy Disco Party. We will be tie-dying t-
shirts to wear to our party on Wednesday. Your child should
bring in a white t-shirt by Tuesday, if possible. Michaels had
t-shirts on sale for $3. Please let me know if your child is
not able to bring in a shirt and I will make sure they have
one. If you are able to help tie-dye shirts on Wednesday at
1:00PM, please let me know.
On November 11
th
of each year, we celebrate Veterans Day
to show our appreciation for the sacrifices ALL American
Veterans have made in their lives to keep our country free.
This year, we would like to invite all 4
th
grade students to
write a poem honoring our Veterans. One poem from each
class will be shared at the next All School Meeting on
October 31
st
and all poems will be displayed in the upstairs
hallway as a special tribute to our Veterans. Poems are due
on Friday, October 24, 2014.
Our next genre will be Mystery. Your children have until
Friday, October 24, 2014 to pick out a mystery chapter book
and share the choice with me. Your children will need to read
the book and complete a project by November 26
th
. An
informational packet will be coming home this week.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or
concerns. The best way to contact me is by using my school
e-mail address at stravers@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us.
Warmly,
Sandra Travers

Our Rock Cycle note taking is complete and we
have written an entertaining beginning for the
writing piece. We will focus on developing our
main idea paragraphs and conclusion this week.
We also completed a writing piece on how the
main character in our literature circle books
changed throughout the story and we have
begun our next literature circle book. All
reading and think cards will continue to be due
on Thursdays.

We are enjoying the adventures of the feuding
Hatford and Malloy families. When a new
family--with three daughters--moves into the
neighborhood, the Hatford brothers decide to
make Caroline and her sisters so miserable
that they'll want to go back to Ohio. Be sure
to ask your children about the adventures of
these two families.
Math
We will continue with Chapter 3 this week. A
packet of math homework will come home in the
green homework folder. Nightly assignments will
be recorded in the planner. Your children need to
practice math facts nightly also. We will be
completing weekly mad minutes to check our
progress.
Social Studies
This week the children will map the East
Region and practice the region's
states and capitals
