Talk about it (before the lm)
Have you ever seen a lm or documentary featuring a character that is
blind? What did they do? How did people treat them?
Talk about it (after the lm)
What do the children learn at the school? What facilities do they
have? Do you think the school would be the same today, how
might technology have changed how they are taught?
Why do the children want to take photos? Were you surprised
by the reasons they gave? Why did some people think that they
shouldnt be encouraged into photography?
How did the children describe their dreams? What qualities did
they emphasise?
What did you think of the photographs that the children took? Why
do you think the lmmakers included them in the lm?
Does it remind you of any other lms - the story, setting,
characters, the way it is lmed or edited, the music or sound? What
are the similarities?
Write about it
Bring your ideas together in a review and share it on our lm clubs
website. You could include a summary of the story, mention other
lms its like, describe what you particularly liked or disliked and give it
your star rating.
Extension activities:
Look at some of the photos you or others have taken. Think about
the memories they bring back and why they are valuable to you. Try
to create a photographic diary of one day in your life. When you nish
discuss whether it represents what happened, or not.

The Unseen
Czech Republic | 1996 | Cert. U | 53 mins
Director: Miroslav Janek
All the children in this documentary have
a visual impairment but this in no way
impacts the things they learn at school
and the hobbies they pursue. Perhaps
most remarkable is their interest in
photography. The pictures they take and
their reasons for taking them are equally
fascinating and inspiring.
