AIR CONDITIONING PACK
Location
The flow control and shut off valve is in the air conditioning compartment.It is
the adjecent to the keel beam and air cycle machine.
PACK VALVE
TRAINING INFORMATION POINT
The flow control and shutoff valve attaches to the supply duct with V_band clamp.
It has four electrical connections.One of them is cabin pressure sense line connections.
When the pack switch is in the off position 28v dc energizes solenoid C to the closed
position.
A manuel control shaft on solenoid C lets the selenoid open or closed position
manually.
The flow chart and shutoff valve modulates to control the air that goes in to the
pack for these schedules.

MAINTENANCE (M) (AMM 21-00-00/901). ( DDPG-ITEM-21-2 )

1.Remove pressure from the pneumatic system.
2.Gain acces to the inoperative pack shut-off valve located in the air condition bay.
3.Disconnect,cap and stow the alectrical connector(s) D488 (left pack and/or
D492 right pack).
4.Pusht in the manual control shaft.If already in puul out and push back in to verify
that the assembly is in.
5.For both shut-off valves inoperative (unpreeurized Flight only.
A-Open and collar the Air Conditioning Overboard Exhaust Valve Reconfiguration
Control circut breaker on the P6-4 Panel.
B-If equipped with optional Passenger Cabin Telecommunications System located
on E6 rack open and collar P6-1 Panel ENTERTAINMENT PASS TELCTU C/B
C-Position one of the pack switches in HIGH and placard.
D-Manually position outflow valve full open.
6.Advise dipatch Maximum altitude for flight planning will be affected.

Location
A turbofan is located in each ram air exit duct just upstream of the exit louvers.
DIPSTCK

TRAINING INFORMATION POINT
A dipstick mounted on the side of the turbofan is used to periodically check the oil
level There is one oil sump drain plug on the bottom of the turbofan.
If the oil level is below the fill line on the dipstick servicing should be accomplished.
The oil servicing is accomplished through the dipstick port. The oil sump holds
approximately 500cc of oil.
PACK TURBOFAN VALVES- 737-400/500
Location
The left control turbofan valve is located in the aft end of the left air conditioning bay
inboard of the turbofan. The right turbofan control valve is located at the forward end of the
right air conditioning bay, upstream of the pack flow control and shutoff valve.

When 28 volt dc is applied to the opening coil of the solenoid and upstream pressure
is above approximately 8 psi the valve moves full open until downstream air
reaches approximately 30 psi. f the pressure exceeds 30 psi the valve modulates towards
closed to hold the downstream pressure at 30 psi.The valve closes when 28 volt dc is
applied to the solenoid closing coil.
PLACARD

MAINTENANCE (M) (DDPG-ITEM-21-6)
1. Gain access to the valve Right valve is located in the right equipment bay at the
forwart end where the valve duct connects to the right pavk cold air supply duck.
The left valve is located in the left equipment bay inboard of the tubofan.
2. Disconnect and stow the turbofan valve solenoid connector.
3. Push in the solenoid manual override plunger. If already in pull out and push
backin to v
NOTE:
The turbine air suppy valve is activated electrically when the associated pack is turned
on and the air ground safety sensor or the flap limit switch is activated.
When flap are extended position affected pack swich(es) to OFF with affected pack
switch(es) in OFF position, the isolation valve will be open isolation valve switch
is in the AUTO .To maintain isolated bleed sources, position the isolation valve switch
to CLOSE.

Location
The ram air inlet assembly is in the wing-to-body fairing forfwad of the air conditioning
compartments. The modulation panel is in the inlet of the ram air inlet duct.
The ram air inlet assembly has these two major assmblies.
-RAM AIR INLET MODULATION PANEL.

TRAINING INFORMATION POINT
The ram air inlet deflector door is a flat surface that is spring-loaded closed. The shaft
assembly is a torque tupe with two tie-rods and a preloaded spring. The tierods connect
to clevis fittings on the deflector door.
When the airplane is on the ground, the the door extends to give protection to the ram air
inlet When the airplane is in the air the deflector door retracts.

MAINTENANCE (M) 737-400/500 (DDPG-ITEM-21-5)
RAM AIR MODULATING SYSTEM INOPERATIVE
1- Gain access to the ram air actuator located adjacent to the ram air exit.
2- Disconnect, cap and stow the electrical connector to the ram air actuator.
3- Remove attaching bolt and separate actuator shaft rod end bearing from
torque shaft quadrant arm. Reinstalland secure bolt in torque shaft quadrant
arm.
4- By hand, rotate torque shaft quadrant and cable system to align ring pin holes
(1/4 inch diameter) for the FLIGHT OPEN POSTON. Refer to following .
drawing
5- Insert a bolt (NAS6704U10 OR EQUVALENT) Through the rig pin hole in the
pulley and thread it into the nut plate (NAS1068-A4) on the support assembly.
6- Secure the actuator shaft rod end bearing to the attach bolt at the end of the
torque shaft quadrant arm safety wire..
7- Close and secure access panels.
RAM AIR EXHAUST LOUVER ASSEMBLY INOPERATIVE
1- Gain access to the ram air exhaust modulation louver assembly.
2- Remove exhaust louver actuating shaft from the torque shaft quadrant at the
outboard univaversal joint.Tape shaft down to prevent vibration.
3- Align the rig pin hole and boss and install a bolt (AN4H7A or equivalent)
through the arm rigging pin hole into the rigging pin boss.

Locaton
The ram air inlet actuator is in the wing to body fairing forward of the air conditioning
compartments .The actuator attaches to the ram air inlet support assemly.
Youget access to the actuator from the bottom of the fuselage, through an access panel.
There is a ram air inlet actuator for the left and the right ram air
systems.

The pack/zone temperature control uses the resistance of the temperature sensor
uses the resistance of the temperature sensor in a control bridge When the temperature

Location
The air cycle machine is in the air conditioning compartment. There is an ACM for
each of the left and right pack systems.

Training Informaton Point
The ACM is part of the secondary pack assembly. It has two clevis brackets for
attachment to the structure in the air conditioning.

Location
The primary heat exchanger is in the aft, ourtboard section of air conditioning
compartment. The secondary heat exchanger is forwart of the primary heat exchanger.

Training Information Point
You remove and instsll the primary or secondary pack assembly as a single unit
You attach the assemblies at attach points on the top surface.The outboard flange
of the heat exchanger attaches the outboard structure of the air conditioning compartment.
The secondary pack assembly has the air cycle machine, ACM duct and electrical
connections.
The primary and secondary exhaust plenums have access panels for inspection and
clean out.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL VALVE
Location
There are two temperature control valve, one for each air conditioning pack.
They are in the air conditioning pack compartments.

Training Information Point
There is a position indicator on the temperature control valves. The valves are normally
in the closed position when the packs are off.
You can manually close the valve with the manual overrde knob if the electric motor fails.
Turn the knob in the direction show on the knob placard.

Ref. MMEL Item 21-1 MANTENANCE PROCEDURE. For the- 400 the requirement
to deactivate the associated pack(s) is consideredoptional. For the-800, if bothpacks
are unusable, deactivate the pack airflow shut-off valves and re-configure the
airplane for unpressurized flight per MMEL tem 21-1 Maintenance Procedure.
Advise dispatch- maximum altitude will be affected.
NOTE: MMEL ITEM 21-1 restrictions for inoperative pack(s) must be
observed if pack(s) cannot be used.
STANDBY TEMPERATURE CONTROL VALVE
Location
There are two standby temperature control valves, one for each air conditioning pack
They are in the air conditioning pack compartments.

Location
There are two mix manifold temperature sensors.They are similar in design and operation

Recirculation Air Filters

The recirculation air filters clean the air as it enters the recirculation system.
The filters can not be bypassed. This maintains the quality of the air in the air
conditioning distribution system.
Training Information Point
You must remove an access panel to change the right recirculation air filters.
You must remove a frame bar to change the left recirculation air filter.
Recirculation Fans
Training Information Point
When you install a recirculation fan, make sure the flow arrow on the fan is in the correct
direction.The arrow should on the fan is in the distribution manifold.
The recirculation fan check valve uses flange clamps for installation. Make sure you install
the check valve with the correct flow direction.

BITE TEST PROCEDURES.
Connect and apply electrical power to the airplane. Do not apply pneumatic pressure
to the cooling pack.
check each controller front panel and observe that the controler FAULT lamps are
extinguished.
If any one of the three lamp (Pack/Zone, Ram Air, or Pack Standby) is illuminated,
replace the controller.
In the flight compartment on the air conditioning panel , set both engine bleed
switches to OFF Set all pack selector and zone temperature selecors to AUTO
Set the trim air switch to ON.
Press the PRESS/TEST pushbutton on each controller. Observe all indicator lamps
illuminate and then extinguish when the push is released. If any lamp does not
illuminate, replace the controller.
On the controller press the BIT pushbutton. Any faults detectec during the last
flight are indicated by illumination of the applicable red indicator lamp. If no faults
are detected, a green GO lamp illuminates.
NOTE: A flight is started when the AIR/GROUND SWTCH on the main gear senses
air mode for longer than 30 seconds.

If a red indicator lamp illuminated, the affected system is identified by a decal on the
controller.
Press the PREVIOUS FLIHTS pushbutton. Any faults detected during the previous
nine flights are indicated by the applicable indicator lamp. If no faults are detected,
the GREEN GO lamp will illuminate.
NOTE: Before a fault is placed into Previous Flight it is reexamined to ensure that
the fault still exists.
If the fault is longer valid, the fault is erased.
Press the VERIFY pushbutton. When pressed, the controller performs a
comprehensive BITE test and displays any faults found in real time.
. If any fault lamp illuminates replace the unit indicated and repeat the
VERIFY step.If the same fault continues to be displayed the airplane wiring and logic
circuits should be checked.
When the GREEN GO lamp illuminates for the VERIFY MODE, PRESS THE RESET
button to clear the controller memory. The RESET pushbutton indicator remains
illuminated for eight seconds after the memory is cleared and then extinguishes.

BITE - GROUND TESTS - SYSTEM TEST
SYSTEM TEST
SYSTEM TEST does a test of the cabin pressurization system.
From the GROUND TEST menu, push the YES button. The display shows DISPLAY
TEST. If you push the NO or DOWN arrow button,the display shows SYSTEM TEST.
When you push the YES button,the controller does a check to find if the system is in
auto mode. If the system is not in auto mode,the display shows SYS IN MANUAL for
two seconds. Then the display shows SELECT AUTO.
If you push the YES button when the system is in auto mode, the controller does a
check to find if the other controller is in BITE. If the other controller is in BITE,the
display shows these things:
. BOTH SYS IN IBIT for two seconds
. IBIT ABORTED for two seconds
. SYSTEM TEST.
If the other controller is not in BITE, questions appear in sequence. For each of these
questions, it is necessary to push the YES or NO button. If you push the YES button
after each question, the display shows the next question.Ifyou push the YES button
after the last question, the display shows TESTING. Each of the 8 lower digits come
on for 12 seconds, one digit at a time. This takes approximately 100 seconds.
If tehere Is on fault while in test, the display shows SYSTEM OK. Then the display
shows SYSTEM TEST AND CLEAR?. If you push the YES button, all faults clear
from fault history. If you push the NO button, the display shows SYSTEM TEST.
If there is a fault during TESTING, the display shows nn exst faults for 2 seconds.
Then the display shows EXISTING FAULTS menu.
If you push the menu button at any time during the system test, the display shows
SYSTEM TEST.

sliding the lock up into the recess in the cover plate and retightening

B. For 600-700-800-losen knob bolt and turn manual override nut tu align

Location
The BAR is at the 11:00 position on the engine core area and immediately aft of the
fan frame.
The PRSOV is at the 10:00 position on the engine core area and below the precooler.

The PRSOV has a manual override and position indicator. You can manually lock the
valve in the closed position only.

Training Information Point
Replace the old switch packing ring with a new ring when you replace the switch.
Apply a thin layer of antiseize compound to the mounting threads of the switch before you
install it . The combination of maunting thread forces and high duct temperatures
can cause uncoated valve maunting threads to seize in their mounting boss.

BLEED AIR PRECOOLER SYSTEM -PRECOOLER
Location
The precooler is on the top of the engine high pressure compressor case.

Training Information Point
The precooler uses narrow passages with thin walls and cooling fins for efficient heat
exchance. Contamination or obstruction of the precooler passages decreases or prevents
airflow and heat trasfer.Keep the precooler clean for maximum performance.

Location
The precooler control valve is on top of the engine forward of the precooler.

Training Information Point
This connector connects directly into the pneumatic manifold, and supplies no temperature
or pressure regulation the external pneumatic source must regulate temperature and
pressure within the placard limits on the connector door
MAXMUM TEMPERATURE 450F (232C) (TYPCAL)
MAXMUM PRESSURE 60 PS (TYPCAL)
Before supplying air from an external pneumatic source these conditions should be met.
THE BATTERY POWER MUST BE ON
THE AIR CONDTONMG PACK SWTCHES MUST BE OFF.
This makes sure that the pack valves will be closed.
NOTE: MONITOR FLIGHT COMPARMENT WING BODY OVERHEAT SYSTEM DURING ALL OPERATION
OF THE PNEUMATIC SYSTEM.
115V ac power is necessary to operate the wing body overheat or air conditioning sys.

1. Use a ground pneumatic source for starting the right engine.
2. Prior to removing the ground pneumatic source verify with flight crew that the right
pneumatic duct is depressurized right engine bleed OFF and isolation valve CLOSE.
3. Advise dispatch ground pneumatic source will be required at down line stations
if right engine is shutdown.

position 600-700-800- AMM 36-00-00/901.
A. Deactivate the leading edge slats in the retracted position (AMM 27-81-00/201)
B. Deactivate the associated thrust reverser (AMM 78-31-00/201).
C. Gain access to the precooler control valve by opening the appropriate fan cowl
panel. (AMM 77-11-02/201) AND THRUST REVERSER (AMM 78-31-00/201).
D. Disconnect the supply pressure connection to the valve.
E. Install a cap on both the valve side and the pressure line side and stow the
sense line.
F.Verify that visual positon indicator on the valve indicates that the valve is in the
full open position.
G. close fan cowl panel (AMM 77-11-02/201) And thrust reverser (AMM 78-31-00/201)
H. Activate the thrust reverser (78-31-00/201)
I. Activate the leading edge slat (AMM-27-81-00/201).
