    Introduction

    Glucoselevelsinphysiologicalfluidsareincreasedindiabetesmellitusandin
    conditionsofthyroid,pituitaryoradrenalhyperactivity.Lowlevelsarecaused
    byinsulinoverdosage,insulinsecretingtmours,hypoadrenalismandglucose
    maladsorption.Thenormalrangeinplasma(fasting)is75-115mg/100ml.

    Principle

    Thephysiologicalfluidsampleisaddeddirectlytoacuvettecontainingthe
    reagentatroomtemperature(20-25C),andtheglucoseconcentrationisread
    directlyfromthedisplayorprintedout.Thismakesitsuitabletechniquefor
    singleassays.

    Useofaspectrophotometermakesthisanalysisstraightforwardandfeasible
    foruseinnon-laboratoryenvironment.
