Purpose
This Lab Set Up Guide provides directions for installing, preparing, and verifying the lab
hardware and software in preparation for conducting a class of course RD792.
The Requirements sections of this document may also be used to determine the specific
hardware and software needed to conduct a class.

Requirements
The following tables list the hardware, software, and other materials needed to set up a lab
to conduct a class for course RD792.
Hardware Requirements
Table 1 lists the hardware needed to prepare one student lab set. When preparing for a
class, multiply the items below by the number of lab systems needed for the class.

Software Requirements
Table 2 lists the software needed to prepare the student and instructor lab sets. When
preparing for a class, be sure you have the correct number of licensed copies of any
non-IBM software.

a. All testing of these instructions and all testing of the lab exercises were conducted on systems running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2. All of the products listed above are supported on Windows NT running at Service Pack 6a or higher, and on Windows 2000. The world-wide standard for this course is Windows
XP with SP2 applied. If other versions of Windows are required, it is up to the individual geographies to build
appropriate images and to test the labs and verify that they work in these environments. Because of differences
between Windows XP and other Windows versions, some operating system specific instructions in the lab exercises may need to be modified when running with Windows NT or Windows 2000.

Configuration Information
The following sections describe the configurations of the student and lab systems.

to 100 MB larger than the pagefile itself. After the paging file has been initialized,
make sure that the page file on the original system drive is reduced to a size of
about 10 MB (both minimum and maximum). File system for this partition is less
important.
__ 2. Install Windows XP Service Pack 2(SP2).
__ 3. Install critical Microsoft Windows security updates.
__ 4. Log on with the userid and password chosen in step 1d above.
__ 5. Install Adobe Acrobat Reader, Version 5.0 (or higher).
__ 6. Install WinZip, Version 8.0 (or higher).
__ 7. Install the IBM Installation Manager.
__ a. Insert the IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software CD 1
into the CD drive to begin the installation. If autorun has been disabled, run
launchpad.exe from the CD.
__ b. Click the Install IBM Rational Application Developer V7.0 link.
__ c. After a few moments, the IBM Installation Manager appears. Click Next.
__ d. Select the I Accept the terms in the license agreement radio button and
click Next.

__ g. After the installation has completed, click Finish to close the IBM Installation
Manager window.
__ 8. The IBM Installation Manager window should open automatically. Install the IBM
Rational Application Developer package using the IBM Installation Manager.
__ a. If the window does not open automatically, click Start Menu
Installation Manager IBM Installation Manager.

__ b. On the Install Packages page, select the IBM Rational Application Developer
check box.
__ c. Click Next.

__ d. Select the I Accept the terms in the license agreement radio button and
click Next.
__ e. On the first Location page, change the Shared Resources Directory to
C:\IBM\SDP70Shared.
__ f.
Click Next.

__ h. Click Next.

On the next page, click Next to accept the defaults. You are not extending an
existing installation of Eclipse.
__ j.
On the next Features page, click Next to accept the default language - English.
__ k. On the next Features page accept the defaults. Make sure that IBM WebSphere
application Server, version 6.1 is selected.
__ l.
Click Next.

__ n. Once the installation is done, click None and click Finish. Do not start IBM
Rational Application at this time.
__ 9. Once Application Developer is installed, the final step is to use the IBM Installation
Manager to install the Activation Kit to license the product.
__ a. Click Start Menu Programs

__ c. On the Manage Licenses page, click Import product Activation Kit. Click
Next.

__ d. On the Import Activation Kit page, click Browse and navigate to the folder
with the installation files. Locate and choose the RADLic.jar file. Click Next.
__ e. On the Licenses page, select the I Accept the terms in the license
agreement radio button and click Finish.
